Direct *and* Resale?

Not knocking Riv because IT IS GORGOUS! However, you really can't see the value in resale?? We have resale points at OKW (350!) and got them for far less than 150-200 at Riv! Now, we can't use our older resale points to stay at Riv... but if I were you and already had Riv points, I'd DEFINITELY consider getting like 150+ at another lovely DVC resort...!

I believe @airjay75 understands the savings potential if they were to add-on with a resale contract however they also understand when you do the math it makes more sense to buy more direct RIV points than picking up a resale contract for their situation.

When adding direct RIV to their existing RIV contract it will add to what they can book at 11 months at RIV and does not handcuff them with not being able to stay at RIV or the other restricted resorts.

If they were looking at just a small contract then I would say resale but when you factor in incentives and Magical Beginnings at the point level they were looking at it only turns into a few dollars more than resale. With that little of a price difference I would certainly be favoring direct. This would also provide another contract that would give membership extras so that if they have 2 children they can each have their own set of points that are direct after they pass.

Yeah, if I wanted more points just for RIV, I'd be considering resale, for sure, but I'm currently thinking about a few things. One, I just want more points to use at DVC generally - my 300 get me enough for about a week in a 1 BR, but I think I want enough for two weeks in a 1 BR. Two, I would prefer any points I get not be restricted for use at RIV/CFW/DLH/New resorts, although I would currently consider some BLT resale at the right price and right UY (and I imagine I will do that at some point). That leaves me with two options for direct purchases - Poly or RIV. I don't love Poly and it's more expensive. I love RIV. And, if I get another 200-300 RIV points, it can provide me some future proofing at RIV for potential 2 BR stays in the future, while also getting me the additional points I want.

I'll add, any additional points I buy at RIV will be broken up into 50-point contracts for ease of resale should I ever go that route. I view my base 300 points (2 150-pt contracts) as my keepers until 2070 (I'll likely be dead, but will pass to my 2 boys if they want them). May well keep any more that I buy, but I'm less sure. Currently, 50-point RIV contracts list for as high as $140-$150 pp. I think there is a good chance that, once RIV is sold out, small contracts like that will fetch a good premium for existing owners who now find themselves in need of just a few extra points here and there. (Not recommending anyone buy counting on that, just my thoughts.)
