Direct add-on timeline

We just walked away from our resale contract because we reached the closing date with no seller's documents, so now with when we want to go (August) I think our best bet is to add on direct for the exact amount of points we are short. I have two questions since I submitted the request but obviously won't hear anything back until Monday:

1. We will be adding on at VGF (we debated switching to RIV for the price difference but at the end of the day I'd like to keep all my points at the same resort for ease of booking and we will probably be staying VGF 70% of the time with the rest of the time being at BLT which we LOVE - I know the VGF v RIV has been extensively debated in another thread but we have made up our minds and the price difference at the low amount of points we are buying isn't enough of an incentive for us). Is the minimum here 25, and does it have to be in increments of 25 if so? We want to add 60, but I would like to avoid having to go to 75 since we don't need the extra 15 and there are no incentives for adding them.

2. What does the timeline look like? It will be a cash closing, so we can send the $$ as soon as we sign, but how long does it take the prepare paperwork, etc? Also, do we have to wait for the deed to be recorded like with resale, or do they give us the points as soon as they have the money? We are taking my inlaws for their first time at Disney for our daughter's birthday, so I'm getting super nervous about missing the room we want. With the resale we were going to be able to do a 3-bd because of all the banked points that needed to be used, but with buying direct we will only be getting a 2 bd and those seem to be filling up faster.

1. Check with your guide. I got what I asked for. I don't see why they cannot sell you just 60 points.
2. Points are loaded before deed is recorded. I signed last year direct and saw points the next day. I read reports people got points within hours. That is at least one great direct benefit for going direct. :)

For direct purchase - you get the points the same day as you give your $$ or the day after - there’s no waiting for documents or closings

Thank you! That's exactly what I was hoping for. We have a back-up cash reservation and it will feel good to be able to cancel that this coming week! :)

I believe you will be fine to purchase just 60. So long as you meet the minimum, you should be ok. I was looking at adding on 30 points at BWV in the fall and my guide said it was fine.

August is already really seriously booked. I would make sure what you want is available before you spend this much money.

The only exception could be them having VGF points to sell you. As long as you are a current member abs paying cash, you can get any amount there above 25.

They load within hours. It is a nice benefit

As others said, pay and points in account that day or the next. I don’t think you can use them for a stay in the next 30 days though:

That's interesting to know - I had never heard that rule before. That makes me all the more convinced that direct is the only way to go at this point. My broker told me yesterday she was sure the resale contract could close by mid-June, but that doesn't put us getting our points from Disney until possibly late-July which would make them useless to us!

As of this morning there was a 2 bd for our dates everywhere except BCV, so I think we should be ok as long as we go direct, but I will definitely check again before we sign on the dotted line! Fortunately for this upcoming trip we are pretty flexible on where we stay (although our preference is still BLT or VGF)

Follow-up question: We will be at Disney all next week, but I'm assuming there is no benefit to adding on in person, right? Unless there is some benefit then I would just as soon do it electronically and not take time out of our vacation.

From the youtube videos I watched, nothing spectacular. You get a picture of Riviera for touring and snacks while they process the contract. I saw someone get a drawstring DVC bag too, but don't know if that requires a certain amount of points.

Yes you can add on 60 points direct. Like someone said the holdup would be if they don’t have enough points to sell you for your UY. I believe someone posted there’s a wait list for Aug at GFV. And I got my point same day after giving my deposit money and before I signed anything. Super smooth and easy process. I want to say I banked and booked reservations even before I closed officially so I don’t think it was an issue. And I don’t think there’s much incentive to do it in person unless Ure from one of those 2 states that don’t allow sales over phone. You’ll get your backpack and 2 magnets about a month after.

you can use them as soon as they load in and they load within hours. We literally had ours booked for the following weekend at poly and were able to cancel our cash reservation. It was nice to get back the money from the cash reservation. Plus depending on your use year you may get the 2020 points as well direct and be able to bank them...

We just added on direct at AKL and while the minimum was 25, we purchased 40. We did not finance, and we had the points within the hour. I was told the powers that be that approve the purchase leave work at 4 EST, so if you call well before that, you should have the points that day. We had the points before we had the edocs, but the edocs also came that same day. We signed them that evening once we were both home.

That doesn’t apply for the DVC resorts. That 30 days is for converting to reservation points for non DVC things,

I believe someone posted there’s a wait list for Aug at GFV.

We bought VGF direct in January of this year with an August use year. If there's a wait list now, we must have just had some Disney magic happen.

We will be buying a December use year to match our first contract, so I hope we will be ok. I hadn't thought about the use years complicating what was available, but I guess I'll find out from my guide on Monday
