We have a 7-day land and sea package planned for the second week in May. We just learned that Dinosaur will be closed while we are there. My boys (age 6) are so disappointed. That is one ride they really wanted to hit. Why would Disney do refurbishments during busy months? You would think that they would do them during colder months when the crowds are smaller.

In an ideal setting that would be great, but you can't put the majority of rides down in the "off" season for rehab. I can understand your disappointment though, Dinosaur is one of my favorites and will be down while I'm there also. Thankfully I did it quite a few times when I was there in January so I have some saved up. ;)

Most refurbs are scheduled for slow seasons, but maybe something is worn excessively and its unsafe to delay the refurb till later. Doesn't make your situation any better and I hope it doesn't put too much of damper on your good time.

I am sorry to hear that DINOSAUR will be closed during your vacation. Of course it is necessary for Walt Disney World to have a refurbishment schedule for their attractions to keep them in working order with high show quality. There is a schedule in place throughout the year allowing attractions to close for refurbishment without having too many attractions closed at once.

Believe it or not, the first two weeks in May are considered a non-peak time for the themeparks. Of course there are other low-attendence periods for Walt Disney World, but not as many as you might think. With more and more parents taking children out of school, and more special events that spike park attendence, there are fewer times that the park attendence is low. Additionally, there are hundreds of attractions that will at some point need to be refurbished making the scheduling process very very difficult.

Regardless, I hope you will enjoy your Walt Disney World vacation, and perhaps you will have the opportunity to revist the resort another time to experience DINOSAUR.

Have a magical vacation. :)

p.s. The first two weeks in May is my favorite time to visit Walt Disney World. The crowds are low-moderate and the weather is generally very nice without being oppressively hot.

I'm also going the first 2 weeks of May. Where can I find out what rides will be down?

Thanks,
Jaime

Go to disneyworld.com and then parks. On the screen for each park is a calendar of times, etc. I believe I saw it in there
