Dinosaur scary for adults!?!?

I am a ride weeny (no coasters, no Mission Space, no Tower of Terror, etc.) and I did not find Dinosaur at all scary, except that it's a very dark ride and I'm claustrophobic (dark ride=exacerbation of claustrophobia). But as far as dinosaurs jumping out at you etc., no, it wasn't scary.

Yes...the ride scared me silly. Picture a thirty-something woman with her head under her friend's arm the WHOLE time...screaming at the top of her lungs. You can't even see I am in the car for the ride photo I was so buried. We go back in August and my DS6 wants to go on it. Lord help me! ;)

I think that it has alot to do with the fact that the ride is loud, dark, you anticipate what's going to happen and don't expect it. to me it was more like a 'jump-out-and-atartle-you-more-so-than-you've-ever-known-in-your-whole-life' kind of scare.

We wnt on Dinosaur for the first time this year and i didnt know what to expect, i was very scared (in a good way though) and all i kept thinking was thank god i didnt take my 7 and 5 year old on it! I wil definitely be going on it again.

Its a great ride! That second carnotaur was the shocker though lol. Not scary but kind of catches you off guard.

Can I say I am glad I am not the only person scared silly by this ride?! :rotfl2: Realizing that dinosaurs aren't real ;)...they sure do seem like it in this dark, loud ride!!! I rode it once when I was 21 and then again last year, figuring I would give it a shot again, and I still hated it! Needless to say, I am done ;)

My eyes stay closed pretty much 90% of this ride. Not to mention, like others have said - it is VERY jerky. If you have any back/neck problems, just don't do it.

This is the only time on a ride that I screamed and tried to hide under my husbands arm. It was the last dinosaur the one that tries to eat you...(not really) I was not expecting it to be so loud or so scary or to pop out at you that way. My husband loves telling the story of me trying to get underneath his arm and out of the way of the dinosaur.

This is my story exactly! I rode with my husband a couple of years ago as my 14 yr old son decided to sit it out. Well I am still having to listen to my DH make fun of me. I came of the ride saying I am so glad that my son decided not to go that he would have been scarred for life. I am usually the one telling him that it's just a ride etc.... I ride everything else (except TOT) and I am not sure why this one got to me so much. Going back in October and I am trying to talk myself into doing it again, but.....

DD and I love this ride. The jerkiness bothers me, but not enough (yet) to keep me off. It is intense and the more you can suspend disbelief, the more intense it is. I can't say I"m terrified about actually being eaten or anything, but the immersion in the environment and the sensory overload make it an exciting ride.

As far as kids, each one is different. When DD was 6, just the warning sign outside saying it was a loud ride was enough to make her turn right around and head for something else. By the time she was 7, she decided to try it after I promised that if she wanted to get out of line we would and if she didn't like the ride I would never 'make' her go on it again. I guess that made her comfortable enough to try it - that and I got her saying "MickeyMickeyMickey" when she got scared (on any ride), just to remind herself that Mickey would never do anything to intentionally hurt his guests and it was all makebelieve. Scary makebelieve, but still makebelieve. :) Anywho, she loved it and now wants to ride it repeatedly whenever we go - if the line is short, we've been known to get off and right back on again a few times in a row.......

I have ridden Dinosaur 5 times now and each and every time I totally freak out when the big guy tries to eat you. I have never been photographed on this rdie because my head has always been buried under the next persons arm pit. My poor dinosaur loving nephew will never look at another dino the same. I ALWAYS sit in the middle seats. I do feel a bit safe from the teeth that way! :teeth: On my Feb. trip I rode it with my best friend and another couple (strangers). She was asking me how scary it was and I was trying to be quiet and tell her it's not bad, just a couple of jump-out-at-you kinda moments, then the husband told his wife not to worry it's all fake. He sat on the outer side of the car and he screamed like a GIRL when the big one popped out. He then burried his head under her arm. The picture was so funny! Funny thing is, I was screaming right along with him with my head buried under my friends arm. Good thing she uses great deodorant!
Of course I'll be back there in September screaming and hiding! LOVE LOVE  Dinosaur!

Great responses. Add me to the list of people who is not scared on any other rides, but Dinosaur gets me every time! I love Mission Space, Tower of Terror, etc. Even though I know what's coming, Dinosaur scares the daylights out of me at the end. I think it's definitely the sensory overload. You're being bumped all over the place, it's dark and loud. The dark especially gets me. I know it's a ride, and it's not scary in the way that people think of Mission Space or Tower of Terror being scary. It's scary in the way a good haunted house is scary - you're in the dark and creatures are all around you! You never know when one may pop out and scream so loudly in your face that it shakes you to the core!

I'm not one to suggest riding Dinosaur, but I have to admit they did a great job with this ride. Also, the pictures from this ride are better than any others. We never buy the pictures from rides but my husband had to buy this one!

20 something male not ashamed to tell you I get scared by this ride.
I rode it for the first time a couple years ago and it did not impress me. Now, I think it's one of the best rides disney has to offer. The audio and animatronics are amazing. It's my hope they bring the Indiana Jones from CA to FL. I hear it's a similar ride.

I freak out @ the ride everytime. When you hear the red dino roaring all around you when it suppose to be chasing you. On our pic, I have my head down at the big blowing dino! I love that ride but it's a little freaky!

I rode this ride for the 1st time this June, and I still have no idea what any of the dinosaurs looked like. After we got off the ride, I turned to my DH & said, "Was it scary?"

Our 4-year-old DS had been BEGGING to ride Dinosaur for months - ever since he had seen the ride on one of the Disney TV specials. He loves dinosaurs and just knew he wouldn't be scared. In his own words, "They're not real dinosaurs, Mommy."

So, on the morning of Father's Day, we were at Dinosaur, and there was no waiting, so we decided to try it. With our 6-year-old daughter as well. Who is terrified of loud noises. And the dark. And especially loud noise in the dark. Yep. I'm a wonderful parent.

So, we put DS & DD in the middle of the row w/ DH on one side & me on the other. From the very beginning, I knew DD was going to HATE the ride, so I covered her ears w/ my both of my hands - which left me w/ nothing w/ which to hang on. I knew it was still "too much" for her, so I leaned completely in front of her w/ my body shielding her body. Which left me kind of bent double over my seat belt. The way I was positioned I couldn't see anything - I could just hear the roars & feel the folts. And ya'll know how jolt-y the ride is! :thumbsup2 I had bruises all across my stomach from the seat belt. And the seat belt also ripped the fastener off my shorts.

You can't even see DD in the ride picture - I'm completely covering her.

DS loved it. I will never ride it again.

I wouldn't say it's scarry for adults, just a bit rough on the tummy! :teeth: If you've ever been on the Indiana Jones ride...it's exactly like that accept for the Dinosaurs of course! :rolleyes1 I actually love all of the critters and how real they look and I have to admit that with all of that Dino stuff going on you sometimes don't notice the jiggling of the ride vehicle. Try it at least once and if you don't like it you don't have to go again but you CAN say you tried it right? :woohoo: I rode it about 6 years ago and I'm going to try it again in October when we go...I don't like indy but who knows! :confused3

we, including ds5 didn't think it was scary but far too jerky and LOUD!!! not my favorite attraction by far. I'll stick w/EE ;)!!

To the poster who asked if I'd ever rode Dinosaur: no I haven't, but hope to do it soon! I still can quite comprehend how an adult is scared by something like this, though the rock concert/sensory overload analogies make me understand better.

No, it isn't scary. It is loud. It is intense. It is jerky. There are some lighting surprises that reveal things. But scary? Not really. Dropping 1,000 feet in an airplane is scary. Driving the wrong way on a highway would be scary. A real guy with a chainsaw chasing you would be scary.

Audioanimatronics on a ride where 100% of the people exit at the end? Not that scary.

Mrs. Huxtable is reassuring enough to make everyone feel nice and safe :)
