Forgive me if I am asking a redundant questions but I am new here!!! :earsboy:

My 5, soon to be 6 year old, daughter keeps talking about the DIno ride at WDW. She saw it on an ad or the vacation DVD or something. Anyway, she is totally convinced that she is going to go on it (b/c she IS tall enough). She loves Dinosaurs and "spookier" movies - has seen all three Jurassic Park movies and LOVES them. SHe knows what is REAL and what isnt.

I went on the Jurassic Park ride when I was in Hollywood and found it exciting and fun but truly scary...is the DIino ride anything like that if you have been on both?

I dont really want to say that she CANT go on it never having experienced it myself knowing her adventurous personality and love of thrills but I also dont want her to be traumatized forever if it is TOO scary for even her!!!

Any opinions?????

Thanks in advance!!

I thought it was going to much scarier than it had been made out to be. Only my 9 y/o DS wanted to ride (not 11 y/o DS) and I warned him it may be scary, but to plug his ears and close his eyes if it did. It was a very LOUD, bumpy and jerky ride, a lot of it in the dark, but we laughed through most of it. Everyone has a different interpretation I guess. See how she does in Haunted Mansion first and gauge it from there. Good luck and have fun!

My DS who is 6 years old absolutely loves this ride.........however, my 11 year old DD is scared to death of it..........I guess it all depends on the personality of each child. It is a rather intense ride (not one of my favorites!) You'll never know unless you try. Just warn her about the jerkyness (is that a word?) and that it is very loud and dark... Good Luck! Enjoy your trip!! :flower:

My 3yo, just turned 4, rode it last September and she wasn't quite tall enough but made it through all the checks.. :confused3 She just missed the height so I'm sure that's how she got thru. But it scared her a little but she wants to ride it this year. I think your DD will do fine. Especially if she's seen Jurassic Park and it didn't bother her.

DD(now7) would NOT go on this at age 5 - but mainly because of the noise warnings.... she just hated loud noises. Last year, at age 6, she got brave enough to try it just once..... and after we got off, she immediately wanted to get in line again! It's top on her list (tied with Buzz Lightyear at MK - talk about a range of rides, lol) now.

It is a very jerky ride, but if she can handle that and enjoys Jurassic Park at that age, she should be ok with this. There are a couple of moments, well, mainly one, that are a bit intense, but the whole ride is shorter than some of the intense bits of the movie...........

My kids 7 and 11 love it. We have to go on it again and again and again........... It's a little loud and i would suggest to put your daughter in the middle and she should be fine.

at 17 it spoked me a bit me. If she wants to go on, sit near the back in the middle the dinosaurs on the sides can be very scary.

DINOSAUR
Exactly like this only louder and darker

Last time DS was 3.5 and tall enough to ride. Being an adventerous kid and a complete dinosaur freak, we took him on it. We couldn't enjoy anything Disney unti lhe rode the ride. He was scared the first time, but not enough to not ride it again immediately (with the baby swap). He loves the ride and can't wait to get on it again this May.

I did the Jurassic Park ride at IOA and the biggest similarity is the excessive noise. I'll ride it, but I don't understand why it has to be so LOUD (I feel the same way about Ellen's Energy Adventure).

Once you get to the ride vehicle, I'd put in earplugs.

My 6 yo DS is obsessed with dinos and wants to ride this ride more than anything! He doesn't know about our trip and I know that he will be asking for this ride every 10 minutes til he rides it! My 11 yo DD went to WDW with her dad last summer and rode this ride. She liked it ok, but said the part where the carnotaur jumps out at you really freaked her out. I am not at all worried about Jayden (my 6 yo) getting scared or anything, and he sounds a lot like your child (from your description). Good luck and have a great trip!

DS (10) loves Dinosaur. This, I believe, is mostly due to the fact that his mother (me, who knows the dinosaurs aren't real) is a big, giant chicken, and every time I am caught by the camera hiding behind my child, who is laughing at me.

I would have said it was not too much of a problem...but on my last visit it broke down and we sat for 15 minutes in *total* darkness with just the occasional deafening roar and thud of dinos to keep us company! I thought it was hilarious (maybe a little scary even for me) but the other people in my car were in an almost catatonic state brought on my the shock of the experience!

Don't let this worry you though I'm sure this is a *very* rare event!

Paul.

Thanks a lot everyone for your thoughts!!! I am sure that I will not get out of letting her ride it...lol...even though I AM the boss of her much to her dismay!!!! hahaha :rotfl:

I am happy that she is so brave and will be so proud after we ride it. I am not a chicken when it comes to rides so I might have found my daredevil companion to go on the "Scary" stuff!!!

She is TOTALLY dying to go in the Haunted Mansion too! I remember that one from years ago and loved it then so I am looking forward to that myself!!

Thanks again!!!

I've been on Jurassic Park at USH several times and I thought Dinosaur at AK was much scarier (and I was 33 at the time). I think the dinos at WDW are more realistic looking plus the lighting effects make it scarier. The carnitaur at the end made me jump out of my seat (well, as much as the seat belt allowed), but the T-rex on lunging out just before the drop on Jurassic Park doesn't faze me.

I agree, Jurrasic Park is a cakewalk compared to Dinosaur (especially the Orlando version of JP - pretty tame).

It's scary, but in a fun way. It's pitch black throughout most of the ride, the only light occasionally on a dinosaur that is about to eat you. :)

I agree with iceskatejen - that dino in the end is killer. What is funny is that the lighting effects are different every time I see that part - sometimes there is a big flash of light, sometimes just a flicker of light so you barely get a glimpse (and many people miss him), and once in awhile it stays pitch black.

I think when it stays pitch black is the scariest - because you KNOW he's right there, even if you can see him or not. ;)

It's one of my three or four favorite WDW rides - it gets ragged on sometimes, but I absolutely love it.

My DS3 ( at the time) rode this with his cousin (22) this summer and wouldnt go back in with me ( i was outside with his younger sister. When we went back in October he wouldnt go near it. We were back in Feb and we went with anotehr family who lives in central Florida. They have a son a year older than my DS ( now 4). Somehow DS decided to ride it again. I was the adut with both of them this time. I sat between them and they both hid their heads the entire time even the little guy who convinced my son to go. They both said later they liked it but neither one of them wanted to go again .

I rode it with my dgs9 and dgd12 last Oct. My dgs9 liked it but my dgd 12 and I didn't care for it. It wasn't the scary aspect. It was way toooo jecky. Both (12 year old) of us will ride and have ridden every ride at any amusment park we have gone to.

We are going to WDW in a couple of weeks and this ride is not on my list. This time we will be traveling with others and I am recommending the parents ride it first and decide if the kids should ride it.

All children are different in what they like. Before we rode I would have bet the 12 year old would have been the one that liked it. She has rode every roller coaster and other adventious rides more than the 9 year old. So I was totally wrong.

Like a lot of rides, keep in mind where you sit changes the experience. The first time I rode Dinosaur it was in the front row and I loved the motion of the ride. The next time, I was in the back row, and got jerked around so much it was unpleasant. I've experimented with this many times and it's always the same (Star Tours has the identical issue).

It might be worth asking to wait for the next truck so you can sit in the front.

So I guess this is where I state that I'm a huge chicken. The first time I went on the ride I kept my eyes closed the entire time (this was in '98 when it was Countdown to Extinction and I was.. let's see... 16). It scared the crap out of me. :scared: I've been on it a few times since but the last time we were at WDW in March (I'm 22 now :) ) I didn't even ride it because I just wanted to avoid it. Mom went on it without me. I have a problem with not knowing my surroundings. It is definitely dark and things definitely jump out at you!

Oh and my mom said that their car stopped for a while inside the ride in the dark too
