I'm a ride chicken. I don't do roller coasters. On my last ride on Splash I was so anticipating the big drop I couldn't appreciate the storyline. I wasn't prepared for the drop on POTC and thought it was kind of big for the ride. But I enjoyed both rides and will be riding again. Now Dinosaur. My 7 yo loves trexes and I'm trying to get him psyched for the trip. He said he is not going on IASW or Haunted Mansion. One is too lame for him one too scary. He does want me to go on Dinosaur with him. So how dark and scary, shaky is it? Do people normally scream on it? Is it a suspenseful ride? Anyone have a video so I can prepare my DS, I mean me!! Help.

I wouldn't call this ride all that scary or shaky. The only really bad part of this is the noise. You could probably go deaf if you rode this ride enough. Again, the dinosaurs aren't scary, all they do is sort of sit their and scream at you. As for the shaking, you can ask to ride in the middle where it is much more smooth.

I disagree COMPLETELY! It freaked me out and I had to put my hands over my 7 yr olds eyes the entire way. Extremely shaky to the point it gave me a headache. But guess what? Can't wait to go back on again! :Pinkbounc

I thought this ride was VERY shakey! I've been on Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and neither of them threw me around as much as this one did. My knees hurt when this ride was done. :scared1:

I found the ride to be shaky/jerky at times. It's very loud and dark most of the time. My 5 year old wants to go on it next month, but given that he doesn't like the dark, we won't be doing it. I'm not a fan of rollercoasters either.

GIven that you said your son won't do haunted mansion, IMHO I don't think dinosaur would be a good idea for him. There are parts that are much more intense/scary in Dinosaur. I've seen many kids come off this ride looking frightened and crying, as well as some adults. It really depends on you son though.

As for video clips, if you get the tracel channel, they frequently air disney specials. I think the Walt Disney WOrld: BEhind the Scenes episode have some footage of DInosaur.

Dinosaur is one of my favorite rides. It does throw you around a bit. It seems like there is a lot of air moving, I have to squint because it feels like my contacts will blow out. My DD is 12 & she hates this ride, I keep telling her the dinosaurs are only animatronic but she still doesn't like it.

It is absolutely one of my favorite rides and I am a big scaredy-cat! However, I refuse to sit on the outside, and I didn't dare let my 88-year old grandma ride it when she joined us at AK!

It is bumpy, shakey, jerky, intestine rolling {not the sickness type of rolling, literal rolling} and quite loud. Having said that, I am NOT a thrill ride enthusiast, {no ToT, MS, RRC} but I love Dinosaur. It's a great ride. Even DW, who will not even do BTM, loves Dinosaur.

sarah4770: It is not a roller coaster. It stays on the ground, but the hydraulics make it seem like it is going up and down in very jerky motions. Kind of like the Indiana Jones ride in DL.

I found it to be a bit intense. When we were there in April, the ride actually broke down for about 2 minutes. :scared1: Felt more like 5 or 6. It was pitch black, the car was still rocking and shaking, and the screaming of the dinosaurs was a bit overwhelming. This happened not once, but twice!!! Don't know if this is typical for this particular ride, though. But talk about being disoriented!! Needless to say, this kinda set the whole scenario as far as dark rides went for the rest of the trip for our 4 year old. I personally think it's worth doing at least once. If you're a real chicken, don't sit on the sides if you can help it, and just keep your eyes shut if it becomes too intense for you.

This ride is SCARY!!! We went on it when it first opened and it was fine - a bit jerky, but did not seem super scary. We went on it in January 2004 and I was terrified!! They have made it more frightening - I don't know what they did, but I had my head under my friend's arm the whole time (and I am in my 30s!). I love every other ride (except for ExtraTerrorestrial - which is no longer).

My 5 year old DS loves dinosaurs, but I won't let him ride this for fear of spoiling every other ride at WDW (he probably won't go on anything else after it). If we leave Animal Kingdom until the last day, then maybe I'll let him give it a try - only if HE really wants to.

I think Dinosaur is the scariest ride at WDW. I am 6'4", 235lbs, and I grew up in the frogtown area of St. Paul Minnesota. My wife is 5'5", 110lbs, and she laughs at me because I scream like a child on this ride. In fact, my wife bought the picture of us on the ride because it shows me with my face buried in her lap during the ride.

The ride is in the dark. It is very loud. The ride vehicle is very jumpy and jerky. All of these factors terrify me. Oh yeah, big animatronic (spl?) dinosaurs with big teeth jumping out at you makes me want to wet my pants. In conclusuion, go on the Cali River Rapids before Dinosaur so folks don't see the wet spots on your pants. :rolleyes1

"Intense" is the best word to discribe this ride. Believe what everyone (except the one poster) is saying. I enjoyed it but I like getting scared.

I've yet to see the whole thing because it scares me to DEATH! It's SO jerky, SO loud, and I know there is something scary towards the end so I just put my head down and hold on tight. We rode it again last week and I did the same thing =)

It's not a roller coaster but instead a safari car that jerks and stops and gos a LOT.

DH loves it because he loves scary intense things. I ride it and shut my eyes ;)

it is jerky and very loud and dark...my 5 yo girl who does not like height rides...she is tiny for her age...well we took her on it...I knew it was a little scary but I did NOT realize this ride was soooo loudy and bumpy and jerky and the dinos are not happy friendly dinos either, they are big, mean, meat eater dinos...it is screechingly LOUD and crazy!! She did fine on the ride but then cried when we got off...go figure....then when a CM asked her fav ride she said,

DINOSAUR!!! :rotfl:

Anyway she loved HM and the other "dark. slower" rides, it is the fast, high or jerky ones she does not like....

AWW I miss the world so much on days like today!!!

Scariest ride I have ever been on. Not overly scary like I was to terrified to sleep at night or anything, but I always scream, even though I know what is going to happen! It is quite loud and huge dino's popping out at me are scary to me.

I am completely chicken (BIG Chicken, scaredy cat, seriously)...made myself sick anticipating this ride...but it was not near as bad as I thought. It IS loud and jerky and the dinosaurs are pretty mean... especially near the end. However, I did enjoy the ride and look forward to riding it again.

As a CM --- This is the one ride I avoid...... when my youngest was of height I took him on it. Just so he can say he was on it once and decide from there if he wants to go on it again. While we were on it I had my eyes closed the entire time. As for my other 2 kids.. they feel like I do.... Let's aviod it.

It is very jerky and loud. When we got off he said to Gma--- NO way Jose!....

This is the scariest ride my sister and friend, (in their late 30's!!!) went on they said. We've never done it just cuz we're not fans of simulator stuff. They were freaked out at how the dinasaur just came right out at them I guess. I was considering letting my 8 year old neice do it in two weeks, but have decided against it. Not worth nightmares just in case.

We ride this each time we visit WDW, but I do not like to get so BATTERED... One time they even started the ride before we had our bags stowed away. ( I also close my eyes during part of it...) I wouldn't recommend it for a child who is afraid of the Haunted Mansion, which IMO is mostly based on humor.
