Is this ride a roller coaster? Because of the unkown we always skip this ride. I really want to try it on our next trip. I am just wondering if it has really big drops? Also, the planning video said something about taking a trip backwards in time. Was this just a metaphor or does it really go backwards? I actually got a little nausea on Spaceship Earth from going backwards. However, it was shortly after I rode Body Wars (where I was fighting getting really sick).

I don't recall going backward, but it sounds like Dinosaur might not be for you. You spend the entire ride in a car, and it isn't a motion simulator (Star Tours, Body Wars). However, there is a LOT of jerky forward motion. The car starts and stops very abruptly, with an appropriate amount of side-to-side and up-and-down motion, as it progresses from scene to scene. I was surprised at how active that car really is.

I guess it's best described as a cross between a motion simulator and Test Track. If you have any problems with motion sickness, I'd think twice before riding.

It is hard to say exactly what the ride is and whether you would actually consider it a collercoaster. You ride in a jeep type vehicle and ride mostly in the dark looking for a certain dinosaur. The ride does not go backwards in movement, but there is a fun drop that always makes us laugh. The ride is a bit bumping so if you don't like to be bobbled around, this ride is not for you. I have seen really young kids ride it though and it is one of our favorites.

It reminds me of Indiana Jones at Disneyland - a little on the more frightening side in terms of darkness, but the same type of ride in general. Bumpy but fun!

Yep, I was thinking the exact same thing!!!!!!

GO FOR IT. If you made it through Body Wars you
are GOOD TO GO.

I don't get motion sick and after I got off Body
Wars I thought I was going to die.

This ride does not simulate motion and you
should be OK. It's a nice ride.

I love Dinosaur and I get motion sickness on EVERYTHING! It didn't effect me at all.

It's in the dark. The "story" is that you have travelled back in time and must find a certain dinosaur and "bring it back with you" before the meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs hits the earth. It is just moments from impact (you actually feel the heat of the meteor on your face for a few seconds before returning to the future).

You ride in a car on a track, but it's not really a roller coaster. The ride is rough, but it stops and starts.

I think it's really fun and I love the little plot line.

Hi Popy -

I thought the same thing. I don't get motion sick either, but I really thought I was going to lose it after Body Wars. Took me a couple of minutes (about a half hour actually) to feel better again.

Sorry, if a little off topic, but Dinosaur was great.

Dinosaur is a lot of fun. I despise rollercoasters and absolutely love this ride. It is bumpy and jerky, sort of like Body Wars or Star Wars, but you move along. It is not stationary like those attractions.

It is not a coaster, I'd describe it more like a prehistoric Kilimanjaro safari ride in the dark.

I always take a Bonine or non-drowsy Dramamine before a day in the parks myself. I've never had a problem on Dinosaur-just be prepared to be bumped around a bit, but it's not a roller-coaster and you don't go backwards. My twin sister, who for years wouldn't get near a coaster or anything too rough, LOVES this ride.

I don't recall ever going backwards. But it is jolting, in the dark, and very bumpy.
Like any other ride, there is a chicken exit if you decide to pass.

I think I am going to give it a try. I do get sick on simulators and 3-D seems to bother me a little. However, every ride that keeps me actually moving seems to be okay. I did okay on TT and TOT. I just wanted to be prepared.

No, it is motion simulator on a track. It is bumpy, and there are quick changes in direction, also it is dark, so you can't really anticipate them. There are no major drops, like a coaster, however. The dinosaurs do have a habit of lunging for your vehicle, so there is that element of surprise, as well.

It is my favorite attraction, and the 1st one we do when we go to the AK.

Imagine being in a large Jeep and going 4 wheeling over rocky terrain, speeding around corners, stopping and starting again. It tosses you around and goes down little 6 foot (or so) hills but you will not feel like your on a coaster.

Just to add. This is a very jerky, dark ride. But I find it extremely loud too.

Ted

I agree with everything above. Ted and Holly really hit it though. Alien Encounter is JUST TOO TENSE for me. This ride dances right on the edge. I can only ride it when I am with certain people.

Watch what you do before riding it and all should be well.

We were in line on Saturday, and it broke. Never got a chance to ride....:(
