We're not planning to get the DP this trip and I was assuming we can just put
our meals on our KTTW card and pay when we check out of the resort. Is this true or did I make it up? TIA

Yes, you can can charge most everything (minus a few carts) to your KTTW card.

Please don't forget that you do need to leave a credit card on file when you check into the Resort so you can have charging priveldges. It is NOT automatic.

A credit card needs to be on file to be able to do so. This will also enable Express Checkout. Guests on cash basis cannot charge to the room and are not eligible for Express Checkout.

I have heard that you can leave a credit card on file, but does anyone know how much they "hold" your card for? I was planning on using my bank/debit card (visa) and I've heard they can hold anything from $500 to $5000. I've also heard that you can ask them to "prepay" so to speak and put up to 500 on your account and then when thats used, you cannot use the KTTW card again until you add more.. Any thoughts or expierences with this would be very helpful!

They don't hold anything on your credit card. They verify that the credit card you give them is active and then assign you a credit limit which varies by type of resort (Values - $500, Moderates - $1,000, Deluxes - $1,500). They only charge something to your credit card when you check out or reach the credit limit, whichever comes first. Not sure if it works differently with debit cards.

actually exceeded the standard limit before. It was the one time we stayed at a value resort. I think our dinner at CP actually put us over the limit but it wasn't noted. The next stop was POTC where my wife was buying a shirt. The KTTW card showed over limit. The CM was great. She took us to a separate register that wasn't in use at the time and called the resort to have the limit increased.

If you're concerned that you're over you can have your charges moved to your credit card during your stay.

Actually I believe it is also possible to put down a cash deposit at check-in and charge to the room against that.

This is true. You need absolutely no credit card at all on file. A safer way (than carrying cash) would be to get a traveler's check, cash it at check-in and put it on the room for kttwc charging.

You will, however, have to go down and check-out in person. You will then get any balance of your cash back.

This is the only way I've ever done it (sometimes I put a disney gc down). In 15+ years disney has never seen a cc from me.

Quoted to confirm what is said is correct.

I believe debit cards are the same way, the hotel just authorizes the card (I think it's for a penny?) to make sure that it is a valid CC/DC and then gives you a charge limit.

Doh, that's true too. Same thing though, no Express Checkout for those on a cash-basis though.

However, doing it on a cash-basis (whether cash deposit or CC) is also not automatic for charging privileges, the Cast Member will have to manually allow charging on your cards and re-print new keys. Hopefully you get a CM that knows how to do that. :D

I went last year, with two friends and we stayed at SSR. We had a $1,500.00 credit limit.

We had the account divided into three lines - person no. 1; person no. 2, and person no. 3. At the end of the trip I would pay the entire account (I get points) and then they would reimburse me.

I noted when I got the paperwork at the end of the trip on December 5th. I noted on the paperwork that my credit card had a charge of $1504.74 on December 4th, and a second charge of $26.00 on the 5th.

As soon as it exceeded the limit, it was charged and it started all over again at the next charge.

Before your trip you should go to the bank and have any restrictions lifted so there wont be a problem.
Many debit cards have a daily limit--mine is $200.00 daily so if I go over that amount I should be denied.
