Dinning Plan prices just keeps going up....

Because I'm OCD and frugel, I always calculate the price of what we would actually order (including only 1 drink, 1 dessert for DH and I because I drink water) at each TS vs. DDP cost including tip on what we would order with DDP (same entrees but extra drink, extra dessert.) It comes out pretty darn close to even cost every time--plus or minus less than $10. We do have kids though and eat at buffets increasing the value for us.

So for us, getting DDP is like getting "free" snacks. It's nice to say "yes" more often when the kids ask for snacks we wouldn't normally splurge on. It's also nice to try snack items and drinks we wouldn't otherwise try.

BTW, TIW always comes out to be the best dining value for us when we have APs and are eligible.

One more benefit of the DDP for us when we travel with other families is that it evens the playing field for dining out and splitting tips.

The ONLY time we get the DDP is when we travel with DH's family. They want to eat at a restaurant every day. And they're the kind who want to calculate what everyone's meal cost instead of just dividing the bill by the number of people. It's much easier to split the check with the dining plan. Otherwise we use the TIW card.

DDP was worth it back when it was priced in the low $30's and included appetizer and tip. Back then, it was primarily a marketing program to get people to stay in onsite resorts.

It has since changed into a profit center for Disney Dining and has been WAY overpriced for a number of years IMHO. And while that near doubling in price has happened, the menus have been dumbed down terribly.

We haven't used DDP since they eliminated the appetizer and tip. We eat CS lunches about half the time (when we're hungry), but we NEVER eat dinner onsite anymore. Last trip, we didn't even do a character meal because we had other things we'd rather do.

My family feels the same way.....it was worth it back when and when the kids were considered 'kids' not 'adults' It was actually fun LOL

To do a TS, takes at least 3-4 hrs. By the time you leave your room, walk to bus stop, wait for bus, bus ride, walk to restaurant, wait, seated, eat, walk to bus stop, wait for bus, bus ride, walk to room.

Dont get me wrong I love to eat out, but to plan far in advance where to make reservations and then realizing how many hours needs to be dedicated to that meal.

If we pay the same OOP that is fine, Im not obsessing over trying to use this credit or getting that snack in ( cause I know I would obsess over it :rotfl2:

Moved from DVC Boards - not really a DVC topic.
