Hi, I'm trading into DVC using my RCI points, can I purchase the dinning plan?

Unfortunately the answer is plain and simple....NO.

I have heard conflicting reports on this?? On the RCI website it states the following, which would seem to indicate that you could purchase the DDP:

Urgent Information:
A US $95.00 RESORT FEE PER UNIT PER STAY WILL BE BILLED UPONCHECK-IN FOR ALL EXCHANGES( THIS FEE IS INCLUDED IN THE FEE FOR ANY RENTAL). THE FEE INCLUDES SHUTTLE SERVICE PROVIDED BY DISNEY MAGICAL EXPRESS, EXTENDED PARK VISITATION HOURS ON SELECT DAYS AND TRANSPORTATION THROUGHOUT DISNEY RESORTS. FEE ALSO COVERS OTHER SERVICES INCLUDING ADVANCE DINING RESERVATIONS, ASSISTANCE WITH OPTIONAL DISNEY DINING PLAN, TEE TIMES AND DELIVERY OF ANY PURCHASES MADE AT DISNEY DIRECTLY TO YOUR RESORT. DETAILED INFORMATION WILL BE PROVIDED ALONG WITH YOUR RESERVATION CONFIRMATION. PETS AND SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED. DUE TO HIGH DEMAND, EXTRA VACATION INVENTORY HOLDS CAN ONLY BE GUARANTEED UNTIL THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS (SAME DAY). **MEMBERS WHO OWN AT RCI RESORTS IN ORLANDO/KISSIMMEE CANNOT EXCHANGE INTO DVC RESORTS IN THE ORLANDO/KISSIMMEE AREA**

You most certainly can purchase the Dining Plan with an RCI trade. When you receive your confirmation, there will be a phone number there for DVC Member Services, call them, and they can link the DDP into your reservation. You will pay for it when you check into your DVC Resort.

You most certainly can purchase the dining plan - a co-worker / friend is booked for SSR thru RCI and was offered the pllan and took it. They are also booked for AKL and have already been offered the dining plan.

As noted, you can, I am not aware of anyone who's been refused and I've done it myself. However, you MUST pay for all who are there during the week for the entire 7 days. You pay at check in, it'll show up as a separate charge though they may combine it with your extra $95 fee.

Just another reply to let you know that you can purchase a dining plan. We are going in May and purchasing the QSDP. With two little ones, we won't eat at many TS restaurants and we will just pay OOP for the ones we do. We will have the TIW so that will get us a discount on those. When you have your reservation number, call member services directly to get it added. As far as I am aware, you need to add it before you arrive.

can I as a RCI member call DVC member services directly to add DDP to my ressie, or do I have to go through RCI??

You call MS. There will be a phone number on your confirmation to contact them.

My wife and I have a timeshare w/ RCI. We can use points for a reservation onsite? I had no idea we could do that!

It is not on the RCI confirmation like it was on the II confirmation but they can call, do dining reservations, make requests, find out what unit type/view they have, etc. As a member, you can even add days to the reservation so you won't have to change rooms.

If you have RCI points, which is seems you may have, then yes you can. I have 3 reservations this fall on RCI points.

Is this new? Last year we purchased another timeshare that uses RCI points but backed out, because after looking through the RCI catalog they provided, it didn't list any Disney properties in it.

DVC has recently (2008 or 2009?) switched to RCI for their trading partner from Interval International.

It's new as of 1 Jan. It's not in the book but is on the website.

Can you explain this further, you mean I can deal directly with DVC MS to lengthen my RCI reservation?? Will they use my RCI points as payment??

If you are a DVC member with a RCI reservation at a DVC resort, you can link a DVC reservation to add days to the RCI exchange using your DVC points. You won't be able to add days to the RCI reservation using RCI points though. If you are not a DVC member you still might be able to add days by making a cash reservation.

As Rob noted, I was referencing reservations by a DVC member combined with an exchange. Apparently it wasn't possible to do this as smoothly when DVC was with II from what one of the CM said but it never came up before that I can recall. Also as noted, you could extend with cash but likely only through CRO. That means you could request to stay in the same unit but could not be guaranteed and would likely have to check in again on the changeover day, something a member would not hae to do with a linked reservation. If I were in this situation looking at cash through CRO to combine with an exchange, I'd first talk to DVC and see what type of unit I had and whether that unit type could be gotten on cash through CRO. For example, if you got BWV standard view (very likely for BWV), you probably couldn't combine with cash because DVC doesn't normally let you have these for cash. Once you had both a DVC exchange and a CRO reservation, I'd let DVC know and ask they be linked. They likely won't link them but can add comments. Then when you check in, reiterate the request.

Here's a real world example. I'm currently in LV at the Marriott Grand Chateau. I got one week in a 1 BR using a bonus week. I then called and got the unit type (4 digit code with Marriott) and made a cash reservation for the same unit type and size for one night. Marriott will not link them but told me to tell the resort on check in. They then modified the reservation so that I am in the same unit for 8 days with no more checkin or out.
