Dinner: Steakhouse 55 vs. Storyteller's Cafe?

Hello, all!

I've searched as many threads as I could find and have read a few things about both Steakhouse 55 and Storyteller's Cafe (for dinner), but I've not found enough to help us make a decision.

We are celebrating our 10th anniversary (we will have our 3 year old son with us at dinner) and would like a good filet mignon dinner. Our finalists are Steakhouse 55 and Storyteller's (we have reservations for the Blue Bayou, but, since we've both enjoyed the "atmosphere" many times in the past, and, because we have read so many negative reviews of the recent quality of food, we have eliminated it from our list of probables).

I would assume that Steakhouse 55 offers excellent cuts of beef, but all other items are a la carte, so I want to make sure all items are worth the extra price.

I've also read a few reviews that state that the filet at Storyteller's is very good and, it comes with the sides included.

So, any "votes" out there from people who have experienced dinner at both places? What is your recommendation? (BTW: Price is not an issue, although I know that Storyteller's would, in fact, be less expensive than 55.)

These two places are completely different. Storyteller's is good, but I would not rank it as one of my top places. 55 on the other hand has fantastic food, but there are some draw backs. It is very expensive and so quiet you could hear a pin drop. We took my 3 year old there and had to have family take him back to the room because he could'nt keep it down. You could also try hook's point. They carry good food and is more family friendly. They have mac and cheese for the kids, and I find the food to be reasonable. Have a good time.

Steakhouse 55 any day of the week. Storytellers for us has always been hit and miss. The food is of a different class.

Hummmm...
Well, I am in the minority here, but we did not care too much for Steakhouse 55 (Granville's). We thought the onion soup tasted like it came from a can, the steaks no better than what we get from the local supermarket and service was so-so, all this for about $50 bucks a head. The sauteed mushrooms were very good as was the dessert, but we enjoyed Hook's Point much more. Storytellers we have had breakfast many times and dinner once - I think we had Prime Rib, and we do find the service there exemplary. If you make your decision on "Filet Mignon & a three year old" (catchy phrase ) I guess I would go with SH55, but have you checked out Hook's Point menu? Good luck deciding and happy anniversary

I have not tried Hooke's Point. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try this in August.

No kidding!! What a combination, eh?!?

Yes, but there is no filet, which is definitely "required" for this occasion!

We decided to try the Steakhouse 55 2 days ago because of the 30% off discount for APs, and we were not impressed. Better than a chain, but not good enough to be called a great steakhouse. The cuts of meat were overseasoned, but we liked the ambiance and our waiter. We had the rack of lamb and the larger cut of filet mignon. Our 2 year old did fine at the restaurant, and there were many other young children there at the time. She LOVED the filet, although it was more rare than medium rare like we had ordered.

Like I said, service was wonderful, and the refills on drinks were on the table before we had finished with the originals. We were full from lunch still, so we split the side of asparagus with our meal, which was a tad overcooked.

I would not consider it Ruth Chris or Mortons but it was very good for us. You can drive to those if you wish.
