We are planning a trip for early October 2011 and I'm trying to plan meals already because we are so excited!! We will be traveling with DD (4 years old) and with my mom. It will be a 1st trip for both of them!

I'm trying to decide if a Dinner Show is worth 2 TS credits! If so which Dinner Show do you recommend??

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue?
Aloha Luau?
Mickey's Backyard BBQ??
others??

I don't think using 2 TS credits on any meal has any value. However, the answer I always give is that HDDR is the only meal on property I can justify using 2 TS credits on when using the DDP (when on the DxDP there is no issue with using 2 TS credits on any meal, IMO).

When on the DDP, I don't find value in using 2 TS credits at signatures because I would still end up paying OOP for appitizers and cocktails or wine. If each TS credit on the DDP is valued at about $30, that means I would be using $60, per person and would still have to pay another $30 or so on drinks and appitizers. The overall bill at a signature for me and my girlfriend is not usually close to $180 plus tip. It usually ends up between $120 and $150 plus tip. That is my logic about not using 2 TS credits on a signature.

When it comes to the Dinner shows, which was your question in the first place, I have only done HDDR and SoA. I have heard that Mickey's BYBBQ is not nearly as expensive as the other dinner shows and therefor wouldn't be worth using 2 credits on. I like to think of dinner shows as 1 TS credit goes towards the food and 1 TS credit goes towards the show. To me, SoA is not worth the 2 TS credits. The food credit has value in that the food is ok. Not great, but you won't leave hungry. The show itself however is real boring. Besides a few moments, the show really drags and is not worth a TS credit. HDDR is the only meal on property where I can justify using 2 TS credits on because the food is pretty good (ribs, chicken, sides) and I find the show entertaining (and the more I drink the more fun it gets).

I must somewhat disagree with pain. It's 2 TS, but for your 2 credits you get a full meal with everything, unlimited beer and wine as well as soda, and the tip is included. Without the show it's very close to worth it, but add the show and you're way over the top.

I know there are some people who like it, I'm just not one of them. The show for the most part is boring to me and the food is subpar. Even with unlimited beer and wine, I wouldn't spend $60 for subpar food and to be bored. To each their own.:confused3

I also disagree with Pain's general assessment process. But I do agree to each their own, I just would not go with his approach at all.

To answer the OP question, we love the HDDR. We think the food is good "down home" cooking. It is not gourmet by any means, but it is very good. Fried Chicken, ribs, salad, corn bread, beans, mashed potatoes and strawberry shortcake. It includes beer, wine and sangria. It is all you care to eat.
We feel the show is a hoot. It is western themed and full of singing, dancing, corny jokes and audience participation. I have been with others from 4 to 60's and everyone loved it.
Have a great trip

HDDR does look really cute! I didn't realize beer and wine were included! Thanks for everyone's input!! I can't wait for our trip!! I think planning everything out is almost as fun as being there!

FWIW, we are doing HDDR this trip. Since we're on free dining (and yes, I worked out the cost with the best discount I could find, paying food OOP, versus paying rack rate with free dining - free dining saved us way more) I don't mind doing 2TS for HDDR. I can't bring myself to do a signature meal though - when I work out the actual cost of what we'd likely order, it isn't really that great a deal, IMO, as OTPain mentioned.

Hoop de Doo

the Luau is not worth the creds IMO, and your 4 year old wouldn't get much out of it. Backyard BBQ is fun for a little one, but 2 creds is a bit much.

Sounds like you've properly caught the DISing bug....Welcome to the madness!! :crazy2: :rotfl:

AND! Another Texas Sista on here!! :yay:

Oh! And as for the dinner show, I think Hoop-Dee-Do is the best choice.

I went with DD4 (now 6) 2 years ago. She was so bored with the Luau (though I liked it!) she got cranky, then fell asleep! I think a 4 year old would LOVE the BBQ. My DD6 hasnt been yet, but my older boys LOVED it when they were younger. The Disney characters come out and dance, lots of dancing, music, rope tricks..complete audience participation there. Kids running/ talking during the meal is the norm, they dont have to sit quietly at the table.
Far 2nd choice would be HDDR.
