Im after your reccomendations for dinner shows you have been too.
We have 4 kids aged 10,8,6 and 2. We didnt do a dinner show last time we were in florida and we would really love to exprience one.
Any reccomendations??
Thanks Louise x

We haven't been to a dinner show since our first trip in 1992, but I'm sure others can help.

We've done Spirit of Aloha, Mickey's Backyard Barbeque and Hoop de Doo over the years, and I think with kids your age I would book Mickeys Backyard Barbeque. It's more kid orientated, and they have plenty character interaction, and I know when my 3 were that age they absolutely loved it - it's also my favourite.

We just never get time for dinner shows, once bought tickets for Ariabian nights off Ebay but sold them again at a profit, never used them.
We did Mickeys BBQ 15 years ago on our 1st trip, adults only really enjoyed it. Did Hoop 2 years ago with a 12 year old and we also enjoyed that but for younger children then I agree with Lisa, Mickeys BBQ.

we find the pirates dinner show
is very good for the kids of all ages up tp 99

Did pirates/medieval dinner shows 20 years ago in Spain, not our cup of tea but many like them.
We are considering Spirit of Aloha this August as we have free dining and need to use double credits on some meals.

We booked Spirit of Aloha one year (when on DDP) and nearly cancelled it because of mixed reviews etc. However decided to give it a go; we really enjoyed it, so much so we did it again last year.

Salad and pineapple bread to start, followed by rice, chicken, ribs, then chocolate volcano pudding. Don't forget all you can drink!!!

Show has a 'wek' story but the singing/dancing and fire-eating are very entertaining. My kids preferred to the Hoop-de-doo & Backyard BBQ-but they are older.

I'd reccommend Spirit of Aloha to any-one-especially as it gives you an opportunity to look around the Poly too (Wish I could afford to stay there:) )

We went to look around about 8 hotels at Xmas, Poly was the most welcoming and friendy of them all. Only problem if we stayed there would be eating too many dole whips.

Its in Captain Cook's Snack Co. see menu above, self serve, you just get a cup(and pay $2.89) from cashier and fill it as tall as you can(no hollow middle like in MK:thumbsup2 ).
A few more Poly pics, spent more time at this resort than any of others, really nice.

I'm afraid I disagree about Pirates and Spirit of Aloha :guilty:

My motto is 'try everything at least once' so with that in mind we did Pirates in 2004 and although the audience participation was good I felt the storyline was a bit hard for kids to keep up with and the lead woman's voice grated on me.

The food was nothing if not unmemorable, except for the pudding which was an apple cobbler and I loved it. I also hated the fact they gave you a litte tip tray afterwards. As if you haven't paid enough already but they were asking for quite a bit :sad2:

In September we stayed at Universals Royal Pacific Resort for the first 4 nights and we did the Luau there which we thoroughly enjoyed, the audience participation was great and the food was really good, the theatre was a really good size and not at all cramped and the Mai Tai's, although really strong, were plentiful :thumbsup2.

We, like Wayne, booked Spirit of Aloha to use up double credits because of the free dining but I had also wanted to try it because I love all things Polynesian/South Pacific/Hawaiian etc and had knocked the other 2 dinner shows on the head in favour of this one.

The pineapple bread was lovely and the salad was great, I only eat chicken breast so picked this off but it was tasty but there wasn't enough food for 4 of us and we had to eke it out , the pudding was way too sickly for me but I can't really fault the food at all for a massive dinner show. The show was really weak on the story and the acting was quite hammy but my god it went on forever.

I know it's important to get your money's worth but half way through it my butt had gone numb and I was fidgeting around like my 8 year old just trying to get some life back in to it :rotfl: At one point I just wanted to get out of there and watch the fireworks over Magic Kingdom that were going off but couldn't because we were at the front!

Having been to both they are remarkably similar in terms of the dancing and fire throwing etc so I don't know who copied who but I would choose the RPR Luau over Spirit any day but i'm glad I did it at least once.

Good luck trying to decide :thumbsup2

Is it not unlimited food? At Hoop as soon as we got near the bottom of the buckets they brought more out we couldn't eat or drink another thing there(Might have helped our cast member friends were with us but everyone looked to have plenty)
DW is concered about it being too warm for it in August, is it well airconned?

That's what we thought but before we could ask for extra they cleared it all away, I think the problem is that it's all plated up so they all come out from the kitchens with it at the same time so in theory if you asked for extra food you'd be keeping everyone else from having their next course, this not the same at RPRs Luau as it's an all you can eat buffet so the food is there until you leave.

I thought the air con was fine, it wasn't too hot at that time of night and I never found it be uncomfortable (I don't like too much heat).

Like I say, each to their own and you should try everything at least once so next time i'll try a different dinner show, you may go and thoroughly enjoy yourself and we may have done if we hadn't of gone to the Luau first!

We have done all the dinner shows with our grandchildren and without them! The best by far was Dixie Stampede but alas that is no longer there. After that we really enjoyed Medieval Times and so did the children. Pirates show was good but the food was diabolical and the same with Arabian Nights.

hi
have done the pirates dinner show and in august did arabian nights and to be honest both were absolutely dire i would not recommend them to anyone!
