Dinner Shows with a 23 month old?

Posted this over on the Dining Forum but not much response, maybe it would be better here.

My baby will be a month shy of his 2 year old birthday when we go in May. I have a PS for Hoop De Doo but I remember when I went last time with my older son who was 4 at the time, he was scared of the loudness of the show.

My question is, overall do you think that maybe the backyard BBQ would be a better bet for a child of this agegroup? I'm really worried he may be to rammy to sit for the show. Is their more opportunity for me to get up with him if I have to at the BBQ?

Is he scared of loud noises like your older DS? I have taken both my kids every year for the last 3 years, this August is #4. Neither one of them were bothered by the noise, and DS 5 usually is. However, you know your children best. I have not been to the BBQ, but it seems like it would be easier to make a "quick get away" there. If you decide to keep your PS, maybe ask for a table on the side so you can get up easily?

My DD has been to the show twice - once at age 2 and then at age 3. She did not find the show loud and we sat right up front. She is one that does not like loud rides or shows in the parks but thought HDDR was a riot. I would be more worried about if you think your 2 year old could sit or be held for that long of a period of time. DD was quite entertained and had not problem sitting in her chair or on DH's lap. I've never been to the BBQ but have heard good things about it. It does sound like a show that you could easily walk around with DS if he gets rammy.

I have done both HDDR and the BQ. I took my 1 year old grandson to the HDD last year and he loved it. The BQ is alot easier to move around. Big dance floor and people coming and going. They even had activities for kids outside the pavilion the first time I was there. Kids everywhere and the characters pop in and out to dance and sign autographs. If your children don't like to sit the BQ is your best bet. The adults in our group prefer the HDD and we will take our grandson there again this year. When he is old enough to really get out there and dance (maybe next year) we plan to do the BQ with him.

As a side note...I am prepared to leave the show with him if he doesn't want to sit or gets fussy. I don't think children should be allowed to disturbe other guests. I wouldn't feel I had to leave the BQ just move away from other guests.
