we will be in the world in mid january for 5 days and would like to attend a dinner show. i am looking for suggestions and advice. my concerns are 1. cold weather/not sure which shows are indoors/outdoors and should i really be concerned, or is it not that cold? 2. my children are 4 and 2/is it too much to expect them to behave for the length of time a show would cover/will they need some room to stetch? 3. transportation/not sure where the various shows are located and how to get them, also how much time to allow to get there. thanks for all your tips. :goodvibes

The Poly Luau (I think it is called the Spirit of Aloha) at the Poly is outdoors, but has covered seating. If it gets too cold, they cancel it. It is an OK show.

The Hoop-Dee-Doo is indoors, located in Pioneer Hall at the Ft. Wilderness campground. Although it is inside, it is always cold in there, even in August. No matter the temperature, wear long pants and bring a sweater.

Of the two, the Hoop-Dee is by far the better show. More going on, more entertaining, more fun. And I think that over the long haul, it would keep the kids attention better. All the talking during the dumb story of the Luau would bore little ones to tears.

Dinner shows are real reservations, where they assign you your very own table. The tables are assigned based on when you make the reservation, so the sooner you call, the better your seat. At the Hoop-Dee, there really aren't bad seats, but still... Also, you pay when you make the reservation, so have that credit card handy!

We always do the Hoop-Dee the night we arrive. I can't think of a better way to kick-off a WDW vacation!

Have a great trip, whatever you decide!

I prefer the off-site dinner shows. We did SOA and were less than impressed. We've been to Dixie Stampede and Arabian Nights and liked both of them much better. You can get discount tickets on the offsite shows from AAA or ticketmania.com and then they are significantly less expensive than the Disney shows.

I forgot about the Dixie Stampede. That's a really good show, too. Not as good as Hoop-Dee-Doo (IMHO), but certainly better than the Poly Luau. I didn't like Arabian Nights. I kept sitting there thinking, "I ought to be enjoying this, it isn't that bad." But I just didn't like it. :confused3

thanks for the advice, we are going to hoop de doo on our first evening there. :cool1:
