For my upcoming trip we are bringing my DM with us. We'd like to have one special meal for just DH and me and have DM watch our DS. In return we'd like to then let DH watch DS one night and I would take DM out for dinner, just the 2 of us.
What I'm needing is some suggestions on where to take DM. The tenative plan right now is DHS that day and we won't have hoppers. We are staying at the WL but we are open to all resorts dining options. Oh, and we'll be on the DDP so I'd like to keep it at a 1TS place. Ok, I know that's a lot of rules but any suggestions for a nice place for DM and me??

How about The Wave?

Or Kona (though since it is open to the upstairs hallway it is kind of noisy)
Or if you don't mind buffet and are more adventureous I'd say Boma

I know it doesn't get the best reviews here (it seems like not many people even try it) I REALLY like Maya Grill at Coronado Springs. They have a great steak and shrimp meal and the chimmichuri sauce is oh so yummy with their bread.

Whatever you chose I am sure it'll be fine since its nice to spend that time with mom. I took my mom to WDW for her BDAY in January and we had a great time.

my first thought was afternoon tea at the grand floridian, but they are not on the dining plan;did i read that wrong? brown derby at the studios is very nice. what about artist point there at the lodge? yachtsman steakhouse at the yacht or flying fish on the boardwalk are excellent choices. well, duh! all of those are 2 credits. here are 2 places i found that are 1 credit: Boma at AKL and the Kona Cafe at the poly. Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL is 1 credit. Mama Melrose, 59 Diner and SCi-Fi in studios are each 1 credit. anybody else have suggestions???:yay:

THanks for the suggestions. We stayed at CSR in March but I admit we did not eat at Maya Grill. I'll check out the menu. We have tried Boma before for both Dinner and BF. I just wasn't our thing. :confused3

How very nice that you took a trip with your DM!!

I was thinking about the GF Tea, I don't mind paying OOP. I'm just not sure if my mom would like that. I'll have to read up on it.
As I mentioned above we're not huge Boma fans. I've been to Mama Melrose and enjoyed myself. That could be it! :thumbsup2

There are a LOT of options out there. First where are you eating already and second what do you and your mom like to eat? I say Boma if you both are into trying new things. It's very beautiful over at the AKL. Or how about Kona or the Wave?

Grand Floridian Cafe gets some great reviews. Its very pretty over at the Grand Floridian. We have never eaten there, but I was wishing that I had booked it for our last trip. Have a great time!!!

How about going to Downtown Disney? My family likes Raglan Road (fish and chips and a beer :) ). There are 3 other DDP TS choices: Wolfgang Puck Cafe, Cap'n Jack's, and Planet Hollywood. I've never dined at these restaurants though, so perhaps other DISers can shed some light on them.

I agree with some others on Kona. The food there is excellent and is a nice atmosphere. Now, if you weren't at DHS, I would say Chefs de France or Tutto Italia.

Not in any order
Grand Floridan Cafe
Kona Cafe
The Wave
Captians Grill
Maya Grill
Been to all and all were very good:thumbsup2

I'm off to check out the GFC menu!

Thanks all!

I was going to go to the Wave with DH but maybe I'll change that and go with my mom. Or maybe DH and I will try a 2TS place. We've done Artist's Point but would love to try Cali Grill.

Since you mentioned the possibility of paying OOP for tea...you might also consider paying OOP for the Hollywood Brown Derby Fantasmic! package. It's a lot of fun and the food is so good. The restaurant is really neat, especially considering it's in the middle of DHS. You could then go to Fantasmic! and, since you're out late, get DM to go on Toy Story Mania with no line (ok, maybe that's pushing it!). I actually did this with my parents, DH and kids and it worked out great (Dg'ma and DPopPop did opt out of TS Mania).

You could then save your TS for a 2TS dinner with your DH (make sure that DH gets CS with DD or pays OOP that night as well) and you luck out with two Signature Dining experiences (mmmmmmmmmm California Grill!).

Raglan Road, Kona, Boma, HBD ( 2 TS so pay OOP?), Wolfgang Puck's would all be good choices. Check out the menu at Saana (sp?) it looks interesting and has the added plus of being able to see the animals at AK from the restaurant.

You know your DM's tastes best. My DM picked Tutto Italia for her birthday dinner next month.

Have Fun!

We enjoyed all of our 1TS dinners at:

1900 Park Fare (the stepsisters are so entertaining!)
Big River Grill (absolutely fabulous food)
Boatwrights (not as busy and good food)
Chef Mickey's (yes we adults like it here :) )
Whispering Canyon Cafe (fun and yummy)

Good luck and let us know where you decide!
