Dinner in Norway

Okay - I started one thread about breakfast - but I since called Disney and they said the chance would be much higher that we would see Ariel in her ballgown at either a late lunch or dinner so.....I'm considering changing to dinner at Norway. I checked out the menu on AllEarsNet and it doesn't look that appealing to me.....so what is the food like? I am a "picky" eater, but I like meat, potatoes, veggies - maybe I should just say I have simple tastes - will I "like" eating at Norway? I can't think of anything worse than going and NO Ariel AND a meal I don't like. If she isn't there we had to eat anyway - but I want something I am going to enjoy if possible OH and if she's there I would happily eat dirt knowing how excited my DD will be

The pasta at Akershus is a safe choice if you don't want to try anything out of your comfort zone. The cold buffet is good too. There is plenty of stuff to fill up on there so that even if you aren't crazy about your plated meal, you'll get enough to eat.

We are trying this for dinner on our next trip. I'm glad to read that they'll be several choices. The menu looks decent too. We are taking a 19 yr girl with us who has never been to WDW and is hoping to meet Jasmine

We loved it but I'm not sure it is a good venue for a picky eater. The starters are mainly cooked meats, fish and salad. The main course I had was the Norwegian meatballs (not going to attempt to spell that here) wouldn't particularly recommend them but they were ok, DH had the cod which looked lovely but does come with shellfish (I'm sure they would serve on its own). They do have a plain grilled chicken on the kid's menu - not sure if they would do that for an adult.

The dessert is a mixed plate but we had a birthday cake and didn't get to the cake.

We would have loved to have seen Ariel but sadly didn't get to see her.

We had Sleeping Beauty out front then Jasmine, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella during meal.

we really liked akershus - the experience was great for our dd! AND we did, indeed, see ariel in her ballgown . the food, however, was okay. the cold buffet had plenty of choices and the menu was pretty diverse.

The problem is we are really going with the hopes of seeing Ariel - the others will be a bonus. (I'm not telling DD that we will see her though in case she isn't there) This is the only place that there is any chance of us seeing Ariel in her ballgown which my DD wants so bad and keeps asking me why she only meets Ariel when she is a mermaid because she wants to meet her when she is a human. This Ariel obsession is actually fairly new - but it includes pouring "potions" over her feet in the bathtub so she can become a mermaid and so on and so forth.

How is the food served? Is it all brought to your table? I really hate buffets now that I have a dd - it is such a pain to have to take turns getting food and then one of us is eating and almost done before the other even gets back to the table. (And I'm not talented enough to carry two plates so I have to fix DD's first and then I finally get to go)

I plan on asking at the concierge desk if there is anyway to tell if she will be there or not for sure since it will then be the week of and they might know.

Thank you for starting this thread, I still have forever until I can make ADR's but I'm obsessively planning. I've been looking at Norway for the same reasons as you and have a very picky DH. If he doesn't like it, he'll just have to suck it up and drink a Carlsburg. In fact, we may have to visit Germany for some Becks before we go....and maybe England for some Guiness......everything tastes better when you're tipsy!

okay, when we saw ariel in her ballgown, it was NOT the pink one like in the movie. my dd LOVES the pink ariel ballgown (and has been asking for one, but i can't seem to find one), however she noticed right away that ariel's ballgown was a soft green color. anyway, ariel was great !

not sure about breakfast and lunch, but for dinner we were given menus for our entrees. everyone picked their own. the "buffet" consisted of pre-dinner items - like appetizers. cold meats, salads, fruit, if i remember correctly. so it was not too bad for those who dislike buffets...

Hey! This weather is insane, although I will take another cool, wet summer over another summer of 100 degrees for 45 days straight anytime. I coached a soccer game for 4 year olds on Saturday morning and it was 45 degrees, a little too chilly for mid-April.

Ariel is going to be a must for my charecter dinners too, although it might throw my daughter off that they don't wheel her around in a water tank with her tail on, she won't be expecting her in her ball gown. I'll have to explain to her that she can just put her legs on whenever she wants to.
