We went to Le Cellier for Christmas dinner after the WONDERFUL Candlelight Processional.
I reserved the dinner package a long time ago. We went to Le Cellier on Thanksgiving weekend and we were disappointed.
It was too late to change the package so we were back there on Christmas night.
I don't understand why so many people rave about this restaurant.
The cheese soup is okay but it's not that great.
We make a wonderful cheese and potato soup with ham that is much better! ;)
The steaks are barely OKAY.
My daughter did like her pasta with shrimp though.
Next year I will choose France for our Candlelight Processional dinner. We had 2 very good meals there this week.
For steaks, we will go to Flying Fish! YUMMY!

I am sorry that you had a so-so meal at Le Cellier. I had my birthday dinner there 12/6 and had the filet. It was wonderful. The service was great and the chocolate cake that I got for dessert was awesome.

I have gone places and had great meals and everyone hated else hated them and then I hated places everyone else seemed to like. I guess it's the person.

Ya know, Montessori, deep down, I agree with you about the soup. Yes, it is good, but I was expecting something a bit more, um, cheesy. But it went well with the pretzel bread.
On the other hand, DH loved his steak. I took a few bites of it, and it was good.
Did you eat at Les Chefs de France? We ate there for my birthday back in August and I fell in love with it!

I have said it before, and I know I am majorly in the minority on these boards, but Le Cellier cannot hold a candle to the Timber Lodge Steakhouse we have here at home.

I totally agree...the cheese soup was such a letdown, but I think my expectations were high after all the reviews here. And the steaks just did not compare.

I'd definitely try somewhere else - Le Cellier is not the be all end all of Epcot eating.

Again, JMO - I tend to voice it because Le Cellier seems to hold a fantasy place here and newcomers need to know that not everyone is wowed by it.

I just recently started making enough money to be able to go to WDW and eat sit down so I may not be the best judge but I think the steaks are great at le Cellier

I'm sorry to say that I have to agree with you now.:( Le Cellier has always been one of our three fav. rest. at WDW. Sadly, when we ate there this year after the CP our steak was less than memorable. I don't know what has happened, but we won't be returning to Le Cellier until I hear lots of great reviews and am satisfies that they have gotten it together.

We tried Le Cellier for the first time last summer. I thought the cheese soup was good and loved the breads. We had steakburgers there too for lunch, and I wasn't overly impressed by that. I did however, think that the atmosphere was a nice retreat from a crowds of a hot and rainy summer day.

Would we try it again? Yes, maybe for just the cheese soup and a salad. However, I don't think it would make our "must do" list if we go again.

We also ate at San Angel Inn last summer and was much more impressed by that restaurant.

Hi Montessori!!!!
sorry you had two bad experiences there!
We ate there on our trip in Aug and LOVED it!! We both had filet and hubby had filet and lobster and it was very ggod! I wasnt thrilled with the bread but I loved the soup! We aslo had a great server and I can not for the life of me think of his name but he was wonderful!!
Well let us know what you think of the new ones you are going to try!! :)

We ate there a week ago. My husband and I really liked the cheese soup but neither of us cared for the bread.
He had the steak, medium well done and it was very good.
I had the shrimp pasta and it was great.
I can understand some not liking the cheese soup because it has a somewhat sour taste to it but we like that.
We also had a great waitress.

We ate there after our CP and loved it!
The cheese soup is okay (I make it at home). The ale taste is a bit strong for my liking. I love all the breads.
We had the mushroom fillets. Outstanding.
Chocolate cake and creme brulee...also wonderful!

It is the same as anywhere, some times are going to be better than others and everyone's opinions vary.

So....I think we should try EVERY restaurant at WDW :teeth:

We've also been disappointed at Le Cellier. Back when we were eating meat, we had a singularly poor experience there for lunch: grizzly, tasteless steak. I thought it was an isolated incident until I read other reviews. It seems to me that their steak quality, while often rather high, is inconsistent, so a certain percentage of time folks will get a very disappointing meal.

We've gone more recently, since we've practically stopped eating meat, and had the stacked tomato appetizer. That was actually quite good.

I disagree!! We went to Le Cellier after CP on Dec. 12 and everyone loved it. First time for all and we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful. I loved my steak and my sister had a pasta dish that she thought was wonderful. The best ending was the chocolate mousse!! We will definitely be going back next year!

Our CP package meal at Le Cellier was just ho hum too. That is why I only take the raves with a grain of salt on these boards. I haven't eaten anywhere yet at the world that hasn't been overpriced and average. We go for the themeing and don't let it ruin our trip.

Love to have you drop in on us in Manitoba, Canada for some food cooked in the real Canada!!! LOL!

This is what I'd serve: French Onion Soup, Bison Steak (from our friend's farm) , new small potatoes, creamed leeks, stuffed mushroom caps. For dessert I'd make strawberry shortcake made with fruit from my garden.
Veggies all from my garden. Of course you'd have to be here in august for this to be fresh, if not I can still do it in the winter!!

We have eaten at Le Cellier three times since January '01. This last time in October, I thought was the best meal I had eaten there, although I liked them all.
My first time I too wondered what all the fuss over the cheese soup was about.
The second visit I thought was better, and still good, but not enough to RAVE about.
This last October was very good and better than the other two visits.
It's not our favorite eating place at WDW, but we like and enjoy it. This last time they were not near as heavy on the pepper as they had been in the past.

We ate at Le cellar this Dec. and was very disappointed in it. We had heard so many good things about it so why not try it. I had the steak sandwich and cheese soup. The steak sandwich was mostly crisel and the cheese soup take like it came from a Cambells can. My wife thought her chicken was good but nothing to write home about. Oh well, now I can at least say we tried it..smjj

It's interesting to read different opinions, especially when it comes to restaurants. We love Le Cellier - in fact it's a must each time we visit. The cheddar cheese soup is good, but I don't think it's all the rage either. Too rich and I would rather save my apetite for the steaks. You'll love Chefs de France though - it's probably my second favorite World Showcase restaurant.

And, I agree with you - the steak at Flying Fish (and I only remember one offering on the menu for steak) is yummy!!

Try Yachtsman Steakhouse!

You know, I go back and I read my review and I think, "people think we hated the place". No, not really. I enjoyed the bread and atmosphere. It was fun. Not all people are going to like all the different places to eat at WDW, thats what makes it so great, you have so many different places to eat at with so many different selections. I think the next time we will try Germany and Japan beside our not to be missed places to eat....smjj

While it is no Ruths Chris, the steaks we have had at Le Cellier have been very good - both the mushroom filet and the regular filet. We have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. As Disney restaurants go, we find it to be one of the better ones.

We had very high expectations of Le Cellier so we were a bit disappointed with our filet mignon. We had the mushroom filet mignon which was okay. I'll rate it a B. It was not too different than the ones we get from our local chain steak houses.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience. We all did like the bread and even requested for more. My DH liked his appetizer alot; he ordered mussels. We didn't try the cheddar cheese soup but will definitely try it next time. We had a wonderful waitress from British Columbia who was obviously very proud of her country. It was great to hear her talk about Canada. We will go again but with lower expectations.
