Do you know if it’s possible for a party of two to get a dining table alone if we request it?

I do want to say that I do not hate other people :) However, I tend to be introverted and meeting new people and making conversation is rather exhausting and stressful for me. I’m really looking forward to our cruise to relax and recharge, so I’m not sure that I’m up to the nightly dinner challenge. Also, I’m in grad school in addition to working full time (which was very busy these past 6 months), and DH has been working a lot lately, so I’m hoping to get some good couple time alone with DH.

More than likely you will not get a table for two (unless it is at Palo). If you really want to be alone, make multiple Palo reservations. Otherwise, be prepared to "mingle".

I will also warn you that if you don't ask at the sit down lunch, they will put you with strangers too. On our first cruise, we had our twin girls go to the Club and we decided to go to lunch together ALONE for the first time in over a year (we live far from family and we were on a tight budget and never hired babysitters). I was almost 'giddy' when we went into Tritons and even told the guy that seated us that we were so excited to be dining together without the children.

About 15 minutes into our 'romantic' lunch two college girls were brought to our table and seated by us (the table seated 4).

We all felt quite ackward, but did end up having a very nice conversation. They were lovely girls, BUT it was not my romantic lunch that I thought I was going to have.

So NOW when we go to lunch we tell them we want to dine alone. We just didn't imagine that they would do that to us the first time, but now we know.

Just thought I would let you know from introvert to another.

It's no problem. We've taken 4 Disney cruises and we've always asked for a table for 2. We'd rather be by ourselves and be able to interact with our servers more.

Just go to the same room where they take Palo reservations and they have a separate table set up for such requests. Once he told us to come to him at the first dinner rotation and he would set it up there. Just ask for anything, Disney will try to do whatever it can to accomodate you!

They did that to us at breakfast too and after that I was sure to ask for a table alone for each meal we went to eat. I just don't care to sit with strangers for meals.

Dh and I had the same thoughts. We had our first lunch at Tritons and sat with a couple already seated. They completely ignored us. I mean it was as if were weren't even there. After that I was a little worried about who we might be sharing a dinner table with for the next 4 days. It turned out that our table mates were Dzneprencess from the boards and her husband. We had such a great time with them that we even changed our palo table to a reservation for 4 as well as hanging out at CC together. So you might have a pleasent surprize waiting for you at your table. :teeth:

Im the same way and when DH & I sailed alone we requested a table for 2. We got one for 4. We tried to change it when they had the dining assignment changes and they basically told us no they do not have tables for 2. This was also for late dining so we had hoped maybe we had a better chance since it might not be full, but no luck.
While dining with another couple didnt ruin our cruise it really made the dining experience less enjoyable than it could have been for me.

Most cruise lines that offer traditional dining (ie set dining times) do not have tables for 2 in the main dining rooms. You might get lucky and get a table for 4 all to yourselves if that seating isn't filled.

I was just on a tour of the QM2 last week, and in looking over those photos I don't see a single table for 2 in the main dining room. They do have them in the separate dining rooms reserved for suite passengers only - a perk of paying $$$$ I guess.

Maybe we got lucky - in May we requested the PLAPLAP rotation with late seating and were pleasantly surprised that we were at a table with just the two of us!! We had 6 other tablemates on our first cruise (with early seating) and just didn't enjoy it as much as with the table for 2 - the interaction with the servers is much better!

Hoping for a table for 2 next September!

Hello,

Just to put my 2 cents worth in on this matter. We were told they were putting us down for a table for four, but we felt that we could keep more to ourselves at a table for 8, so we asked to be changed to an 8. We just feel that if want to chat to ourselves, it doesn't come across as rude as if we were with another couple and ignored them. Not to say that we will ignore our table mates, but if you get stuck with a couple that you don't like, it can make for a loooong dinner. I hope this makes sense, basically it seems it's easier to disappear in a larger group than a small one.

Take care,

Bill ( who had a great bunch of chow mates on the last cruise)

Two years ago we were seated at a table with a woman that dh worked with, and her family. On paper I'm sure it looked good because our kids were the same age. But it was very awkward--they talked about worked a bit, and then we ran out of things to say. Three of the nights we ate somewhere else just to avoid having to make small talk with them.

Now, we had the opposite experience. On our 7 day cruise, we were at a table for 6, and had a great time (after all, your tablemates are only strangers the first night). On our 3 night cruise, we ended up at a table by ourselves. We were virtually ignored by our serving team, as they tended to spend considerably more time at the larger tables that they had. Having a table for two at Palo is great, because I think that the atmosphere makes that more enjoyable, but with a table for two in the main dining room, it just felt like we were missing out on all of the fun.
