Dinner/Epcot Itinerary Help

I could figure this one out myself, I'm sure, but I love the suggestions from others so here goes.

We will be staying at YC over MLK weekend in January. Husband free from work commitment at 6 p.m. THinking we should go to Epcot. Kids LOVE MS and TT. Should I get a PS for dinner in Epcot or just wing it? How would you structure your time? We will have spent the day MK. Would you rather go to MGM that night (although we have a work dinner at Brown Derby on Saturday night).

Any thoughts? Have I totally confused you?

Do the kids like the Wishes fireworks? If you are interested in that then I would go to Epcot and do MS and TT then monorail over to MK (husband can meet you when he is done)and have dinner in that area and then see Wishes. Or Wishes and then dinner. The fireworks may be early in January. There are soooo many great places to eat in that area. Depends on how old your kids are and what they are interested in.

Or if Wishes is not a big deal to you, then I would have dinner at Teppenyaki in Japan and stay in Epcot to watch Illuminations.

I LOVE the fireworks displays. They both are must do's on my list.

If you want to ride both MS and TT after 6 p.m., I'd probably wing dinner. There are so many good counter service places in World Showcase, you can find something for everyone. I would recommend taking the monorail back from MK that day, walking through Epcot and picking up a fast pass for either TT or MS. I'd ride MS BEFORE dinner. You may be able to luck into one of the sitdown restaurants at WS too. We got a table for 10 at Alfredo's in July with only a 5 minute wait.

Great suggestions. We haven't done either Wishes or Illuminations but I was thinking that Illuminations would be fun (and I'm afraid that neither park will be open past 6 p.m. that night since it's January).

Question: can you get a Fastpass for a specific time? Never tried it but I like that suggestion of taking the monorail back and picking up tickets.

Another question: how long would you guess it takes from the time the monorail leaves MK through Epcot to YC? Or at least how long is the walk from Epcot monorail station to YC? I'm guessing 30 minutes.

I would guess you're right-on about the 30 minute walk from the monorail @ Epcot to the Yacht Club.

Personally, I would do the MK during the day, check on the fast passes as you come back to the resort and see if they are returning later in the evening (which I doubt because you're going in Jan, but MAYBE because it's a holiday weekend). Rest a bit, take a swim and hit the WS for KidCot and touring early in the evening. Depending on your tastes and personality, you may want a PS as a back up - I'm a bit anal that way. You shoudl be fine - you'll love Epcot and Illuminations!

Went to Disney in Jan in 2001,2002 & 2003. I would stay in MK for the wishes fireworks which is usually around 7:00pm during Jan & then go over to Epcot for something to eat in one of the worlds (several of them have outdoor seating< we always go to Mexico) & stake out a seat for the illuminations show at 9:00pm, Epcot has never closed before that,however I think some of the rides close at 8:00pm. We have always enjoyed going in Jan, the lines are so short that we could actually stay on rides over & over again.

I agree with Grace Sea. If you have never seen either of the fireworks displays you should really try. My favorite if Wishes. If you can only see one then I would go for that one. And like Grace Sea said, if it is early enough, maybe you would have time to head over to Epcot to catch Illuminations. They are both beautiful, you may wander why you never watched them before.
Maybe you could see Wishes Friday night and Illuminations Saturday night. Just remember that while the WS closes around 9:00 p.m. ,FW close around 7:00 p.m., so if do MK first then come back to see Illuminations, the kids might miss TT and MS.

Just one more suggestion if you're still thinking about a PS at the World Showcase and seeing Illuminations - you could try for a PS at the Rose & Crown around 8 PM and ask to be seated on the deck if at all possible. Illuminations will start just about the time you finish dinner, and the view of it from the Rose & Crown deck is excellent. We've done this twice and will do it again this December. I believe that others have said that, even if you have to eat inside, they will allow you to step out onto the deck to watch Illuminations.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. It's clear we need to do at least one fireworks show....we may just wing it. A lot will have to do with the parks and times and some will have to do with my husband's schedule. I don't want to do too much without him (doesn't seem fair) and I hate to ask him to hike back to MK for wishes after his business meeting. THink we'll try Illuminations. Like the Mexico idea as we llike that kind of food. And we ate at Rose and Crown last year (quite good) so we'd like to try something new. Personally, I'd like to try LeCellier but am fearful it will rob of us of too much time for fun
