Dinner at Tony's Town Square?

I am in the suburbs of NYC, and great Italian food is easy to find here. That being said, we tried Tony's and Mama Melrose's in DHS, and they were both terrible! (Of the two, Mama's was marginally better.) Tony's food was not worth it - watery sauce (both cream and tomato based) that had absolutely no flavor is the one thing that really sticks in my mind. Ragu has waaayy more appeal than Tony's!

If you are looking for a true Italian dinner, do not go here. It is not a meal that will make your tastebuds sing - more like run for the door!:scared1:

(PS - Our waiter was also incredibly slow - I wonder if he was the same as the PP? :rotfl2: )

I'm in NNJ also & I think that is part of the reason we are so opposed to these restaurants, when you've had outstanding poor/fair just doesn't cut it.

ok, so this is slightly *off* topic, but I've always wanted to ask this......for the folks that have had REAL Italian food (aka food in Italy) how do the WDW restaurants, or maybe just Tutto Italia, compare? I'm not sure I have ever had *outstanding* italian food in America, period.....

(the only restaurant in America that I knew was directly from Italians in a very familiar area, had bad food, and nothing like Italy)

I wanted to try Tony's since we were unable to get in on our last trip. We had a 5pm res, were ready to take a seat and they called our name. I felt the service was great, efficient and friendly server (Jaime I think). Ds had calamari for appetizer, he and I both had the chicken parm and DH had the steak. We were all pleased with our meals. I was hoping it wasn't horrible based on the reviews we read so we were surprised to enjoy it so much. For dessert, I had the gelato, dh had the lemon cake which was kind of odd to say the least, we didnt like it at all, ds had the spumoni which he enjoyed. I will be posting pic as soon as soon this holiday rush with working and baking settles down. I would say I agree with pp, people seem to love it or hate it. We are Italian and wanted to decide for ourselves how bad or good it was going to be.....I am from South Philly and have had some very good Italian food, both at home and out and my opinion is that this was very good meal!

I did not enjoy my lasagna from Tutto. I liked Tony's better. That said, husband loved his spaghetti and veal meatballs at tutto! The cannoli was very tasty and profiteroles were just ok.

We went the sat before Thanksgiving. My dbro and dh got the veal parm--the pasta overcooked, the sauce tasted burnt and they both said it was gross. I got chicken or veal (can't remember) with a balsamic glaze. It was inedible. It was salty and it was like drinking balsamic vinegar. I sent it back and ordered a children's size plain pasta. Plain. The pasta was overcooked and mushy.

We had an ADR for thanksgiving day. We went up to the desk and canceled it after dinner. We went to CP for breakfast, spent the day at the park and then left and a wonderful, great dinner off-site at Shoney's. The mood was lively and the food reasonably priced and good.

We won't go back to Tony's.:sad1:

OK.. I haven't eaten here in years so I can't comment on the food...:rolleyes1 but I just wanted to post an observation..Of all the dining reviews I have ever read (and I have read a LOT ;) ) this is a place that either people absolutely HATE:mad: or absolutely LOVE:lovestruc . Not much in between. I am seriously interested in adding this to our list in June just to see in which group we fall in. :goodvibes

It does seem that way doesn't it!

My picky eater loves the Bianca flatbread from Tonys. I think your picky eater would enjoy it! Service has been a little slow at our meals here.

Okay, we are also trying Tony's this coming trip and my question is this: How does this comapre with let's say, Romano's Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden? We are Floridians, and I really believe that the reason that some really hate Tony's is b/c maybe they're from regions where Italian food is more authentic. We're used to restaraunts stated above, and would be happy if Tony's was similar in taste and service.
Thanks!:thumbsup2

I think you should try it at least once and form your own opinion.
Some of the people who hate Tonys' are some who love Chef Mickeys
dinner and Garden Grille (those are the ones I would avoid).
The Dinner Menu seemed to be a bit better to me than the Lunch Menu.
The Lunch menu does have the Flat Bread Pizza though--you can always
ask if they can make it for dinner.

There is definitely one thing I LOVE about this board -- noone agrees on the restaurants. For every good (or bad) review you find (for ANY restaurant), there are at least as many bad (or good) reviews. They all have good points -- no criticism intended! But it goes to show that everyone's taste is their own.

Just had to post....
