Hi guys, We have never eaten at the Rose and Crown. We currently have dinner reservations for our 24th wedding anniversay and our son's 11th birthday. I am a bit worried. Can anybody give suggestions on what to order? Pics would be appreciated too if you have them.

I know that they don't take specific reservations for outdoor seating but I'm wondering what our luck would be on requesting outdoor seating.

I can't remember everything they have, but I know I LOVE the potato and leek soup. It's delish! Check the food pics thread for pictures, and arrive early to request outdoor seating and mention your anniversary. I'm sure they'll do their best to accomodate you. :D

We always go to Rose & Crown not so much for the food - it's okay & you can't usually go wrong with the fish & chips - but we love the atmosphere. We always try for an 8pm ADR requesting an outdoor table. Only once we didn't get it, but even if you don't they allow other diners to go on the patio for Illuminations. If you get a patio table, order an English beer & look over the menu. Then order your appetiser but do not order your entree until you get it. Then order the dinner. When we've done this on the patio, many times we are enjoying our meal and watching Illuminations. After the show, instead of rushing out of the park, we hang out at the bar (if okay with bartender/we ask to make sure we don't hold them up from closing) and will have one more beer. They've always been very nice about it (be sure to tip!) Once we leave, WS is not crowded & neither are the buses.

If you are lucky enough to get a patio table & watch Illuminations, that would be romantic for an anniversary. But if not, you'll have to decide if that would make you happy because the bar atmosphere can get noisy and playful! ENJOY whatever you decide.

My DH loves the Bangers and Mash and the lamb, and I love the fish and chips. DH also loved the mini beer sampler. I can't remember what we had for dessert.

We have requested outdoor seating three out of our six visits, and we got it twice. It really is a stroke of luck. But if you don't get it, there is a standing area where you can go watch the fireworks and then go back to your table.

My DS loved the Vegetable Curry -- a great dish for those who prefer veggies to meat.

I loved my roast pork loin. And my beer/ale sampler . . . our kids all found something they liked as well.

Even if you're outdoors, you might not get a table with a view. You'll be shown to the patio where you'll be able to see Illuminations, and then can continue your meal back at your seat.

If you are lucky enough to get a table on the patio are you surrounded by the diners from the inside crowding all around you? And is your view blocked so you have to stand up anyway?

On our third time at R&C, DH discovered the lamb. He LOVED it. I tend to avoid the entrees and had roasted mushrooms and a salad. Both were very good. Don't bother with the apple crumble for dessert, it's not bad, just not special enough to pay for.

We ate there for the first time last sumer and it was wonderful! We did not request outside seating (were not trying to hit it for Illuminations) but we got it anyway. We had a large party and that was the only spot that could hold us.

Our server was great...friendly, helpful and we couldn't understand half of what she said her accent was so thick! We had a blast with her!

For food we had:
Fish & Chips --people who had it said it was great.
Steak & Fish--very good (I had this)
I can't recall what else had for the main meal, but it looks like the menu has changed a little from last year. I know we had more variety than just fish & chips but i don't recall what everyone else ate. i do know they all loved it!

For dessert we all split:
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Warm Apple Crumble
Ice Cream (this doesn't seem to on the menu now. It was vanilla ice cream with chocolate wafer cookie...maybe it was on the kids menu?)
It was all awesome, but we wound up ordering more of the Toffee Puddings as one split 3 ways was not NEARLY enough!
