I made a PS for Rose and Crown to watch Illuminations. I looked over the menu, I am really not thrilled with it. But maybe to sit down and see Illuminations would be great. smooth:

Has anyone eaten at Rose and Crown? Is the food good? What food would you recommend? Would you recommend this restaurant? Can you really see Illuminations from the patio? Can you see Illuminations from inside? WIll my 6 year old find anything edible? haha. What is a "poppins pizza"? Is that an English name for a childs pizza? :smooth:

Thanks, DEE

R&C is one of our WS favorites:D DW and DDs love beef so they get prime rib. I like to try different things and I think the pie sampler is delicious. Some like the fish and chips although my experience with it was disappointing. Please note that there is no guarantee that you will be seated outdoors for Illuminations. I believe guests who are seated indoors are admitted to an outdoor area to watch the show.

We went there last year in December. The food was amazing. The prime rib was one of the 10 best that I have ever eaten. To me it was better than the one that they served at Le Cellier. Our waitress was Rosie and she was awesome. We tried the Bailey's Irish Creme Brulee......OMG, it was too die for. I have never had a better Creme Brulee......and it beat the one at Le Cellier also.

The restaurant is now a favorite and will definately be revisited when we go back to WDW next year. Enjoy! Maggie

Wow - after hearing these reviews, I'm wondering if we had an off night? We went 2yrs ago for dinner (as part of the Candlelight Processional Package) and were very disappointed. We found everything to be very bland without much in the way of seasoning. The prime rib and chicken were both probably well cooked, but lacked much flavour. I doubt we'll ever be back.

We have eaten at R&C for CP for the past 7 or so years. Of the 7 times, I would say that my husband has been pretty happy with his prime rib. He says it is pretty good, but not the best he has ever had. But he orders it medium and I ordered mine medium/well. That may have been the problem with mine: I, on the other hand, had it one year and vowed to not get it again. I usually get the fried prawns and the steak (I think that is what I get). I am pretty happy with that choice.

But, on the other hand, EVERY year I get the Mushroom Medly and it has been consistantly my favorite appetizer that I have ever had. So, for me/us, we go for the

1. Great service. They are by far the best CMs at Epcot (imho)

2. Great appetizer (for me anyway) Mushrooms Yuummmmm

3. Great view of Illuminations

4. Good prime rib (not great) (my husband's opinion;) )

The fish and chips are very good, but we are on the CP dinner, so I splurge on the shrimp/steak. But if we go just for normal dinner, that is what I order.

We love the R&C. I agree in that the Mushroom Medley is delish! I also adore the Pie Sampler. The only thing I don't order is the fish and chips as I can order them at the Fish and Chip stand cheaper!! I haven't had anything there that I haven't enjoyed.

We did Rose & Crown last year and did not like it. It was very crowded. I had hurt my leg and was in a wheelchair and they asked me to leave the chair outside and walk inside. It was very slow and food was only so-so. It's a "Been there, done that" for us.

Yes! It's worth it! You can absolutely see Illuminations from the patio. If you don't feel you have a good enough view, you can take a break from your table and move down to the rail just before the fireworks start.

We have eaten there twice and enjoyed the quality of the food as well as the departure from the fare we can get in our town.

CM's usually pick a child to "start" illuminations. It is very cute!

This is our favorite restaurant! We love the fish and chips. I have never seen Illuminations from there, but have read that it is one of the best places to see it. We have always have good service there.

Hi,

Love R&C!! One of the best places in WS & great for Illumations!! Love their fisherman's basket!! Enjoy!

We ate there last trip for dinner on a cold night. Overall it was ok but we probably wouldn't go back, just didn't thrill us. We were soooo cold we asked for an indoor table and said we'd wait. We waited and were taken to an outdoor table right next to a swinging staff door. I politely asked to be moved indoors and was told nothing was available, while we were standing there a CM came out the swinging door and it banged into my DS's chair, we were immediately moved inside before I could say a word!

Our food was good and our waitress very nice. I enjoyed the pie sampler. My children had grilled chicken breasts and mashed potatoes.

We are not impressed by the food there at all. Definately wouldn't eat there just to see illuminations.

We've eaten at the R&C specifically for the Illuminations seating. Here's my photo gallery from that night, to give you an idea of the view from the patio:
Illuminations from Rose and Crown, Oct 2000

I like the Pie Sampler as well. One small note: if you don't like one of the pies, they will happily substitute for dupicates of the other pies. This works well for my wife who doesn't care to eat pork.

Rose & Crown Pub is one of our favorite places to eat in WDW. We eat here at least once on every trip. The mushroom medley for starters is so good. We ate at R&C for the Candlelight dinner package in 2001 & 2002 and enjoyed it very much. We are going to eat here again this coming Dec. as part of the dinner package again.

CJB wow, the photo's are truly spectacular! The reviews are really mixed on the restaurant. The only reason I did pick Rose and Crown was to see Illuminations. I really wanted to eat in Mexico or ITaly. I ate in Mexico before and loved it. I have never had a good seat to view Illuminations. THe last two times I went to DIS it rained, in fact my last two vacations it rained 8 out of 10 days, non stop downpours. It didnt stop us, we saw and did everything.

I have never seen Illuminations on a clear night. I wasnt able to videotape it because my camera shut down from the humidity and dew.

Looks like I will try the mushroom medley for an appetizer and the prime rib for an entree. But to be honest I would rather eat at Alfredo's or in Mexico. :cool1:
