I haven't eaten dinner there, and am hesitant too, as I think it sounds bad. but, I have eaten breakfast there, and it's good. The breakfast food is American, and the Lunch & Dinner is Norwegian.
BTW...I just made my advanced dining reservation for our meal there today!!! I was so excited...DD loves all the princesses.
Do people just not like it because it's different or because it's gross? I feel like if I'm going to eat at World Showcase, then I want food from around the world. I can go anywhere and get American food.
Jennifer....me too! I don't want to always bash this restaurant, but I found it to be terrible! The cold buffet was not appetizing at all, and the choice of entrees was limited. The character interaction was nice, but it wasn't worth wasting my TS credits. I would not go here again. BTW, it was my DS6 & DD2's most forgettable meal...they never talk about this one when we talk about our trip.
Ok, I wil be the first in the Askerhus fan club. We had a very nice meal there in July and had 3 picky adult eaters. The appetizers and the desserts were really good and the main entrees were also fine. I have written this before but here I go again, the joy that my 7.5 year old niece got from seeing Ariel there would have been worth it at twice the price. It was truly one of those priceless memories at WDW.
It just depends on what you like food wise. It has a lot of smoked fish and other Norwegian foods. I grew up in Minnesota and I really liked the food; my mom, a native Texas, did not.

If you are looking for something VERY different you will get it here. They first bring out a cold buffet dish with meats and cheeses on it. That was what I found to be the MOST disgusting. For the entree I ordered the chicken and pasta I figured they could not screw that up but my noodles were sticking together like they had sat all day and the chicken was sooooo dry it was just not good at all. My girls LOVE spaghetti and meatballs and they would not touch the food. We didn't like the desserts either. I guess we were just not ready for the Norwegian way of eating.. We walked out starving that night but quickly made up for it at the snack carts while watching the fireworks!!
So is there no more "going up to the cold buffet" like it used to be? The mackerel was one of the best things I ate on our trip (it was a while ago, though). Just curious what to expect. It seems like they keep changing their methods of serving.
The food is AMAZING!!!!!! IMHO is some of the best in WDW. The desserts are fantastic too. I have never been disappointed with Akershus. As I have said before many of the guide books think so too. If you dont like the look of the menu, dont go. As it was my favorite restaurant and I dont want to dine with princesses I wont go either.
Unfortunately it is still the case and always will be that people go and hope for the best with the food. It isnt to their taste and then they complain. Balanace it all up and make your decision.

I think that that is back - the only difference is the princesses and the price!
I would love to go back to my favorite restaurant one day but only when the peaceful dining atmosphere returns. It is such a fabulous restaurant.
Yes HORRAYYYYY the cold buffet is back, but BOOOOOOO the Princesses are still there The food at Akershus is excellent and such a change to the standad fayre offered in WDW. It is, or should I say was our favourite restuarant in WDW but now we shall visit no more, the Princesses have ruined it. We used to find it a lovely retreat, with an adult atmosphere, great food and friendly Norwegian servers. If you are willing to try different food then go but if you want burger and fries it isn't for you!
I suppose it all depends on what we all like, but now of course it is busier (which of course was what they wanted) and the noise level is very high. Thats because it is an attraction for kids as it is a themed restaurant. For us (and I say this as a Mum who has kids who loved the food and the tranquillity here) the whole nature of the place has changed.
i want them to bring back the hot buffet too i miss it and the quiet retreat it used to be there are too many character meals if they must have them maybe they can make dinner non character for us who liked the resturaunt as it was. remember this is a "world showcase" resturant ethnic foods are to be expected if you don't like the food don't eat there.
