DH and I had plans to revisit San Angel Inn for dinner on Monday night, but at the last minute I decided I felt like seeing Wishes, so I searched for new reservations and Tony's Town Square popped up. Tony's seems to have one of the worst reputations on this board, so I'm not sure what made me decide to be so bold! DH (who lurks on the DIS!) wasn't too excited about the choice, and kept saying "DON'T EAT THE MARINARA!" which apparently is an oft-repeated warning in reviews of Tony's here!

We had a pretty late ADR, 8:25PM, which was the only availability. We spent a few hours visiting attractions, but at 7:40 it had started raining again and I was sooo ready to sit and eat. We peaked into Tony's and it was a mob scene; all seats taken, tons of people standing around...I'd expect nothing less from a Monday night in MK...in July...on a night when the park closes at 12 and offers MSEP twice. I checked in at around 7:45, and despite DH insisting we'd never be seated early, we were called at 8:19. HA! :lmao:

We hadn't particularly wanted a certain seating area, and since it was our first visit to Tony's, it was pretty much a win/win in any case. Indoor dining area=comfy booths, A/C, cute Lady & The Tramp decor; outdoor dining area=people watching, parade viewing. But we were led to a sort of solarium sunroom seating area in between the patio and dining room...best of both worlds? I thought it was quite pretty!

Our drink orders were taken promptly and I wasted no time ordering the fried zucchini, which I'd seen in numerous reviews. I love squash, in any form. And DH loves...fried things, in any form!

"Zucchini Fries - baked seasoned zucchini with creamy sun-dried tomato dressing for dipping"

We gobbled these down pretty fast. When I had my first bite, I was a little freaked, the texture at first was SO much like a fried cheese stick, which I'm not at all a fan of. But the flavor was much better! These weren't greasy at all. Hot, crisp, and pleasant. The amount of dip provided for the fries is almost laughably large though, they could cut it in half and there would still be more than anyone needs! The dip provided a nice cool tang to the fries. I enjoyed them, but I didn't love them like I do the wok-fried green beans at Yak & Yeti.

Some rolls and seasoned olive oil were delivered soon after...

I'm not at all picky when it comes to bread, so I usually don't mind the boring white rolls like this, but I'd prefer butter to olive oil, as much as I love it. I tried one and decided it wasn't worth wasting precious stomach room for. Not like those honey-sweet rolls at LTT! DH loved the rolls and olive oil.

(note; please excuse the crappy photos ahead! when the sun went down, the patio was left pretty comfortably dim, and I didn't want to use my flash!)

For our entrees, I was completely torn between the Mushroom Ravioli and Shrimp Scampi. Mushrooms and shrimp are two of my favorites...it's hard to choose between them! But I went with the scampi...and it was a great choice!

"Linguini with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Asparagus tossed in a Garlic sauce"

When the bowl was presented, I was completely underwhelmed by its appearance, but once I dug in my opinion changed! The garlic flavor was spot on, not too subtle and not at all overwhelming. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and mixed in were a LOT more shrimp and asparagus spears than I expected. This was a HUGE portion...I really don't want to know how many ounces of pasta were in there!

DH went with the Seafood Diavolo:

"Linguini pasta with Clams, Mussels, Calamari, Shrimp, and fresh fish of the day (salmon, in this case) in a spicy Tomato sauce"

I don't eat clams, mussels, squid, OR salmon, so I have to go entirely on DH's word on this dish! He loved it and found the fish to be plentiful. The chunks of salmon mixed in throughout were HUGE. He said the sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but for him it was fairly mild, just a strong red pepper flavor.

MSEP started as we were finishing our entrees, and it was pretty neat watching the lights of the parade pass by as we ate. I have to say, I was very impressed with how Tony's handles the parade process. The CMs blocked access to the patio, except for parties seated out there, and pointed approaching guests to the main entrance for parade viewing. We witnessed several parents bringing kids to the patio door only to be directed to the entrance. Since the patio is so small, and all the people on it were in the middle of their dinner, it'd be pretty uncomfortable to have others squishing in and standing around their table while they ate, so I like that Tony's ensures those guests an uninterrupted meal. :thumbsup2

And finally, dessert time, my favorite part of any meal! After approximately 2.5 seconds of deliberation, I decided on...the chocolate cake!

IMG_3193.jpg

"Chocolate cake layered with chocolate-hazelnut filling."

This was just delicious. I usually shy away from chocolate-on-chocolate cake, because it's almost too rich and heavy, but the hazelnut provided a nice contrast. The cake was super moist, the icing was delicious, and the light layer of crushed hazelnuts on the edge provided a great little crunch.

DH chose the Tiramisu:

"Espresso-soaked ladyfingers, whipped mascarpone, and dark chocolate shavings."

Such a cute presentation! I tried a bite and I don't enjoy tiramisu normally...this didn't change my mind. But DH loved it and ate every last bit!

We had a wonderful server who was friendly and attentive, but never rushed us. I think this was one of the longest meals we've ever had at Disney...it took us well over an hour. We normally don't order both an appetizer AND dessert though, which definitely added time, but we also enjoyed the atmosphere enough to take our time.

We were happily surprised by Tony's. I'm not a big fan of Italian food (despite growing up in NJ...or because of growing up in NJ?!) and while I'm sure our low expectations helped, I enjoyed it much more than our first and last meal at Tutto Italia. The L&TT theme, atmosphere, and outdoor patio views certainly give it an extra edge. We'll definitely try Tony's again someday!

Wow! Very interesting to see a positive review of Tony's - you know how rare those are. :rotfl: I honestly think I'd enjoy both entrees and desserts in your review!

Tony's probably won't go on my immediate "must do" list, mainly because I don't order pasta very often (my last meal at Narcoossee's was a rare exception), and their other entrees are less enticing to me. But I won't be ruling it out - the atmosphere seems quite nice, their location is good for people watching and viewing the parade, and they do have some unique items on the menu (such as their pistachio crème brûlée). :thumbsup2

thanks so much for your reviews and also the photos...how nice to be able to see the night time parade right from your seat..
The food choices ..I loved the looks of both of your selections...YUMMY is the word I am going to use..

Thanks again

Great review of Tony's! Those zucchini fries look especially delicious. :thumbsup2

You know, we haven't been there in years and I don't really know why??? :confused3. It's not that we ever had a bad experience there. So your review has got me thinking about it again. Hmm...maybe, just maybe next time. ;)

The zucchini app with the dipping sauce looked really good! The sauce looks more like a cup of soup! :lmao: But the really delicious sounding part was your garlicy shrimp pasta. I will have to look on their menu and see if they offer that for lunch.

Thanks for sharing this review!

I am very happy w/ this positive review. We booked Tony's for lunch despite dis reviews. I remember going here when I was a child & disliking my spaghetti b/c it was actually linguine. I'm still not a linguine fan @ all. I thought the view for the 3 pm parade might be nice but we are not big Italian restaurant people, only b/c we make it often @ home & like it our way best. I am still nervous about wasting $ on this place but for now I'll keep it, thanks to your review. :thumbsup2 & The Lady & the Tramp theme is darling!

I want to try Tony's just for the fried zucchini! Thanks for your review!

We really enjoy Tony's we've always had good service and no complaints with the food, we usually book our ADR for MNSSHP so we eat there before we head off for our evening in the park all dressed up!!

The shrimp scampi is my favorite thing to eat at Tonys! That and the calamari

Very happy to see a great review of Tony's! Because of the bad reviews this place hasn't really been one of my first choices but I will have to put this on my radar from now on! I love friend zucchini and I'm craving it now after reading this!

I definitely wouldn't make it a must do! It was a very nice meal, but I do think the atmosphere contributed a lot to that. And the options are pretty limited if you don't enjoy pasta. I was just happy to find everything tasty and to get good service!

YVW! The huge glass windows and the view of Main Street were really amazing!

There's just SO MANY restaurants and so little time, right? I always find myself thinking of a restaurant I consider one of our "faves", then I remember we only ate there once...years ago, and start wondering why we've never been back! If only we won the lottery and could make Disney eating our job!

HA! Cup of soup is spot-on, that's really the size it was! :lmao: They were tasty though, and the shrimp IS on the lunch menu! Actually, now that I'm looking, their lunch menu has most of the dinner options AND a bunch of lunch-only options...a much bigger variety for those who may not really love Italian food, or pasta. I think we'll definitely go for lunch next time we eat there! Thanks for the idea! :thumbsup2

The theme IS very cute. And since you're going for lunch, you'll be getting more menu choices for less money! If you can get one of the patio tables during the parade, that's really just icing on the cake!

I want to try Tony's just for the fried zucchini! Thanks for your review!
YVW! I heartily encourage you to add some dessert to your zucchini though!

We really enjoy Tony's we've always had good service and no complaints with the food, we usually book our ADR for MNSSHP so we eat there before we head off for our evening in the park all dressed up!!
Tony's and MNSSHP sounds like a perfect night to me! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the review. We are eating there in November

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did! :goodvibes

The shrimp scampi is my favorite thing to eat at Tonys! That and the calamari
Because you have exceptional taste! Well, except for the calamari part. :lmao:

I love friend zucchini and I'm craving it now after reading this!

I know everything tastes good fried, but there's just something extra sinfully delicious about taking a wholesome vegetable and tossing it into some hot oil! :wizard:

I am so pleased to see such a positive review of Tony's
As you pointed out, it seems to only ever get poor reviews and you just want it to be great with such a perfect location
I haven't tried Tony's or LTT before and they are both on my 'list'

I just have to reply about the bad reviews of Tony's. We went there last May on my birthday and I loved it. The food was great. The only complaint I have is they stuck us in a corner and I would have liked to be further out in the resturant by a window, but I didn't want to wait anymore and was hungry. So it is my own fault that I didn't ask for a better table. The noise level was very high also, but alot of resturants are like that. But I thought the food was great and will return here. I wish everyone would stop giving it such a bad reputation.

We love the zucchini sticks too. They are very good! I never understand either why they serve such a huge bowl of the dip.
I usually get the scampi too and like it a lot.
We never have a problem there and I don't think the sauce is bad. We went for lunch and dinner last time, so for lunch I had the chicken parm. It was on par with a chain but not bad in any form or compared to my homemade sauce but it was good for chain quality.

& if you go back, they do serve butter. We actually never have to ask for butter, its brought with the rolls & the oil.

We at there on Sunday and also had a great meal. Zucchini fries were great, the sauce reminded me of the Bloomin Onion sauce from the Outback. A little less spicy but still a slight kick. Two people had the Mushroom Tortelloni and were thoroughly pleased. One Lasagna with no complaints. Two orders of Lamb Shank, one of which was me. It was very tender and flavorful and the polenta and sauce were outrageous. One creme brulee, one sorbet (green apple), both good but the outstanding dessert was the Spumoni. I have never tasted a vanilla ice cream with soooo much flavor. I would go back just for this dessert! All in all everyone was very pleased with this dinner.

We have a reservation for our December trip - Tony's is my middle son's favorite and he missed our last couple trips so he got to pick his favorites! Glad to hear the positive reviews.

We enjoyed our meal at Tony's on 12/03. DS picked it for his Birthday dinner. We were seated on the patio just before the MSEP started. We thought how ideal. When the MSEP started DS walked up the banister to look on. The CM on guard said he had to SIT at our table. While I kinda appreciate the CMs keeping the swarms of inside diners off the balcony, I though it overkill to keep my son sitting. The CM made all of the kids on patio stay seated at their tables. The only table behind DS on the patio was ours and even standing he was shorter than my husband's head so he would not have blocked any inside table' view. DS ended up sitting on his knees to watch. The CM may have just been doing her job but I really thought she could have been nicer about it. In fact we joked with another table that she was the "Parade Nazi". Have the CM or our waiter come to our table before the parade and tells us the rules. I would much rather explain to DS in a nice way that we have to stay seated than have a curt CM bark at him and put tears in in eyes.--especially on his birthday.
