Dining with a Large Group

I'm looking for someone with some experience dining with a large group (we have 17). We've gotten the Princess Storybook breakfast, but are having trouble finding spots other than character dining. More than anything, we need a reservation in the MK, but as it is the same day as the princess breakfast, we'd prefer no characters. We're doing Flame Tree at AK, but are at a loss for MGM as well.

Where have you eaten with groups this large?

in mgm hollywood & vine is a the perfect restaurant for a large group, imo... it's buffet but currently no characters (although i've heard rumor)

in mk i would suggest liberty tree tavern, you could probably get one of the smaller rooms all to yourselves (the room we were in last time had a big round table, two tables for four and a table for two, which would be perfect) but that has characters as well (no princesses)... the food is served family style and very good and imo is the perfect venue for a large group...

have you also considered biergarten in germany as you sit at community tables or spirit of aloha dinner show at the poly?

Our large group of 17-23 were able to eat almost anywhere we wanted. At MK, we ate lunch at Tony's. We ate at Mama Melrose at MGM. We ate at LC in Canada. We had dinner at the Contemporary steakhouse. In March, we are going to Ohana's (table for 21) and Donald's Breakfast at AK. Some places pull the tables together, some don't. It didn't present a problem at all. DW does a good job accomodating a large group.

If you call Disney Dining and ask to speak to a Magical Gatherings representative, you can set up a Magical Grand Gatheings program.

Disney gives you a MGG #, that all the families in your group use when making reservations. When you make reservations just include the MGG number. When anyone in your group makes resrvations for the same restaurant at the same time, by using the MGG #, the reservation seating will be grouped together, automaticlly.

By doing this, you can make your agenda and distribute it to all the other families, then they can either join you or not, without you having to coordinate each and every dining activity.

Any special outings that require pre payment, like Hoop Dee Do; when you make the reservation, just give them a total count for the entire party and pay only for your own group, have the other groups call to pay, giving your reservation # and MGG #. They will be linked in and payment will be noted. Disney usually holds the reservation count for a week or two, allowing all the groups, included in your total reservation count to call and pay. After that time, they may cut the original reservation count back to the paid amount

This way, you can make the reservation, but not have to pay the whole tab, upfront, just your share.

Our group of 28 ate at Boma's and Hollywood and Vine. We usually had to take early times for reservations, but it worked out. At Boma's we were the first people in the restaurant for dinner that night.

Thanks for the input. We ended up doing O'Hana, 50's Prime Time (2 tables), Alfredo's (2 tables) and the Pricess breakfast at Norway.

I've had 17 at Crystal Palace, 24 at Kona Cafe and 10 at Brown Derby. At Kona Cafe, most of us were at one long seating arrangement (with a few at two other tables). Crystal Palace gave us two tables which worked much better (those sitting inside only had to crawl over one person on the end rather than several).
