I am headed down to Disney for a few days with my 13 yr old DD. DD is a vegetarian...any suggestions on dining?

many thanks!

Boma for dinner, if you can get a reservation. It is great for vegetarians and carnivores alike.

Also be aware that just mentioning the vegetarian thing to the servers will help out. We had a vegetarian friend at the 50s Prime Time not too pleased w ith the vegetarian options on the menu. So she ordered a turkey sandwich without the turkey. After we explained to our server that our friend was a vegetarian, five different choices were provided that were not on the menu, including a veggie burger. For table service, if there is a kids meal that interests her, chances are she'll be able to get it. And that's a definite at the counter service places.

Also for table service, if she sees different sides that interest her like a baked potato listed with one meal and rice listed with another, she can just get the sides as a meal. And there's always vegetables of some sort as a side in every table service place.

My DS (25) is also a vegetarian and he is planning a trip soon so I have the same question. However, he doesn't eat eggs so he has to be extra careful. Last night we got a veggie burger but it had mayo on it and that was his dinner before getting on Greyhound bus to New York (4 hr trip). I felt so bad for him - he always asks to make sure that there is no egg based product.

I will look at allearsnet.com as I see it has been suggested but any other suggestions? Do the chefs accomodate pretty well?

I think Boma and Tusker House (I've only done lunch there) had tremendous vegetarian selections.

I have ordered the veggie platter from California Grill (I am not a vegetarian) and I thought that was great. It's not on the menu though, you need to ask for it.

First off, Disney is wonderful for veggies! They are *so* accomidating. I am a new veggie (only been veggie for about 2 months) so I was worried about it. I had no problems. I was able to eat at the same places everyone else did, even the luau at the Poly. Before making our ADRs, I looked at on-line menus to see if there was something on the menu I could eat. If there were few offerings or something that I did not care for I called and spoke with the chef. One had several things available that were not listed on the menu and one made something just for me (Chef Nelson at 50s Prime Time was wonderful!!). Do not be apprehensive about calling, they were all very nice (no soup nazis in Disney! :rotfl: ). Also, check out the book Vegetarian Walt Disney World and Greater Orlando. It is a little out of date, but a lot of the information was very helpful.

Have a wonderful time! :hippie:

My DD had a "veggie" year when she was 13, too. It did change my picks for dinner, since DS was (and still is) the total opposite - only wants brown food (hamburgers, chicken nuggets, fries).

DD now skips most red meat for environemental rather than health reasons, so finding places aren't as difficult. She'll eat chicken/fish.

But I'll never forget that year at Disney! Some of her favorite meals:

Vegeterian chili at Columbia Harbour House
Vegeterian meal at Garden Grill - don't remember what it was
Veg. meal at the Luau at Poly - a mound of white rice surrounded by stir-fry veggies in a tasty sauce
Vegetable couscous at Marakesh
