Dining Time Changed Because of Food Allergies??

Well, a funny thing happened today. I found out that my parent's late dining seating had been changed to early. Now, we were not expecting this. We booked the cruise late, I'm pretty sure the cruise is full, and we were wait-listed. Did not expect to get changed and had gotten used to having late dining. The other day, my dad was in contact with Disney to see if they had received the faxed medical form that indicates my son has a peanut allergy and asthma. They said they had not received it, would he please fax it again, and then call back in two days. At that point, they were still on late dining. He faxed the form, called back two days later. They said they had received the form and "oh by the way, I notice here that you have been moved up to the early seating."

Now is this just coincidence or do you think there is a reason for doing this. I was thinking that maybe there were some other "allergenic" folks on board and maybe they like to have them all at one seating--makes it easier on the kitchen staff?

I was just surprised because I keep reading on these boards that it is pretty hard to get bumped to the early dining if you are wait-listed?

Maybe they changed it because of your son's age? If he's young and because of the allergies and the other health concerns, they moved them up on the waitlist? Just a theory! I'd be interested to hear why too :)

I'm curious to know why they did this to you, too. It doesn't make sense to move you from late to early unless you requested it. I'd be upset if they moved my dining time from late seating to early seating.

I would have a guess and say your comment '' I was thinking that maybe there were some other "allergenic" folks on board and maybe they like to have them all at one seating--makes it easier on the kitchen staff?'' makes a lot of sence.

If they are runnig early and late dinners back to back, even if they clean and clean, there might be a very small chance something would get through.

So if they start from early dinner nothing has happened after a full clean.

If you think of a Chocolate factory, production line everything is shut down and cleaned or prepared in a separate area, it makes sence.

I just returned from WDW and I was with my niece who is plagued with food allergies. While WDW was VERY accomodating to her needs, EVERYTHING was cooked to order for her. It was easily 20 minites to 1/2 hour longer to get our order than those seated around us.

We met with the chef at every restaurant upon arrival. We were assured that they would be scouring any pots, pan and utensils before cooking her meal so as to minimize possible cross contamination. In most cases fresh oil would be used and that has to be brought to temperature before they can begin cooking her meal (she is allergies to peanuts and soy and soy products so that meant olive oil).

Because of all the care they put into preparing food for people with food allergies it does not surprise me at all that they would try and keep you at early seating so as not to keep the staff any later than necessary.
