Yeah - we are not formal peeps. When we have more than 6-8 for dinner, it's paper plates all the way. Also, we avoid using AC and I frequently get hot in the dining room. I dislike the way standing/table fans blow air (so inefficient too!) so a ceiling fan in every room possible is a must for me.
I'm happy with our casual, simple feel but am learning that creating a more pulled together look will be more inviting and increase our daily joy in our space. While I have no issues ignoring design "rules" (like dining room ceiling fans) in favor of practicality, I am learning a lot about colors and materials and the weight of each piece and how balance matters - which is why I asked about placing a dining table off-centre. All the feedback here has been super helpful.
My mother (who lives with us) is still campaigning for a 48" round. Which would give us 2.5' instead of 3' between table and wall which is probably still workable. And I would only have to off-centre it very slightly which shouldn't be too noticeable.
So I have 2 great choices now, which is awesome.
