I know these have been asked a million times...but if anyone has recently come back from a 7-day eastern and can fill me in...I'd be most grateful!

Which night is Formal night? I thought it was Sunday but now I'm not so sure.

Also, I've heard that if you have small children (3 and 4 year olds), you'll most likely get the ALPALPA dining rotation.

Any truth to this?

Thanks again..we leave in a week and a half and I'm crunching for info. now : )

On the Eastern route, Sunday is the formal night and Thursday is the "semi-formal" night. They're both semi-formal if you ask me....

Regarding your dinner rotation, yes, it seems that families with small children tend to get the APL rotation, but that's not etched in stone. On our last cruise, we had LAP (two adults, no kids), but had a family with two kids at our table. A couple that we met in the boarding line (also no kids), had PLA. It really will depend on the make-up of the passengers for that particular sailing.

Senor Ferrari--
why do you say they are both semi-formal? I haven't been on the cruise yet, but am getting set to book this week for end of July Eastern.

thanks, penny

We just got off the 1/4 Western and we noticed that people looked more dressed up on the Semi Formal night than the Formal night. I don't know if it had to do with Semi-Formal night being the Captain's Gala reception....there were many more tuxes onboard this cruise than all of our other 6 DCL cruises. It was great seeing so many people dressed up!!!

Many little girls in princess dresses as well.

Actually, if I had to pin it down, I'd say they were both "quasi-formal." I think of formal as tuxes/evening gowns. While there are some of both, there are many more people in suits or even jacket and tie (or maybe not even a tie). I don't want to turn this into a debate about whether you should adhere to the dress code. I personally have no problem with the guests' attire on formal nights. It's just that when people hear "formal," there are different interpretations of the word. I guess I was trying to say that this runs to the "semi-formal" end of the scale.

The formal nights on DCL are not as formal as on other lines. There seems to be a wider range of attire. I no longer bring a tux, I just go with a dark suit, which works for both of these nights and Palo. There are usually more suits than tuxes, in my experience.

As to the "formal" and "semi-formal" nights on the Magic, I don't see a real difference between the two. I certainly dress the same for both.
