dining room color opinions

DBF and I have been painting the house slowly. I was pregnant for most of last year so we didn't get much done. He picked out the colors for living room and computer room. The living room has green walls and the computer room has greyish-blueish walls (it all depends on the lighting). Anyway, I want to paint the dining room a nice bright fun and funky color. I chose orange. He vetoes my choice. There are french doors in the dining room and it gets the morning light so it can be rather bright. He says orange is too bright for that room. I say it is paint and if we don't like it, we can just repaint it. The oranges I have chosen are more of a melon and tangerine colors. Not some bright pumpkin orange. So what is your opinion?

I would go more or a autum shade, bronze tint, not the tones that look like a reflective vest. One thing I have a thing agains it orage and green, reminds me of a pumpkin.
Head to Home Depot and get sample cards to put up next to the painted walls.

Martha Stewart Must have paint palets to compare and match. Also I have scene where they take material and create a match. Use some items of your clothing etc and see what looks nice.
Have fun, and I am sure you will love what ever you choose.

Unless you want to spend time in that room alone, I would find a color that you can both be happy with...

Maybe try going to a store and looking at a color chart with him to get ideas. We are painting our kitchen this weekend and DH said he did NOT want a torquoise kitchen that I really wanted but when we got to the paint store and looked at samples he agreed! Those colors in fact were even his first choice!

Never hurts to look. Or, maybe you will see other colors that might look nice there as well.

I would go with a color that compliments the rooms that its open to, and it doesn't sound like orange would look nice with the colors you mentioned. It could go with the green depending on the shade but I think it would look awful with the blue/grey room.

What is the finish on the furniture? Your flooring?

If you're not sure, invest the few dollars on the sample size cans. Paint scent size swatches on the wall then wait a few days to see how each color looks at different times of the day.

I say do what you want - like you said, it's only paint, anything can be painted over. I know you like the brighter oranges, but here are a few shots of a deeper orange I used. It looks very nice when it's dim - when the sunshines into this room though look out - basketball orange! We call it the Campbell's Tomato Soup room!

That room/color is gorgeous!

I know this isn't the top of this thread but I'd take your wall color and the blues in the rug(which I see also contains your wall color) and have the most fabulous formal drapes made! Something quite dramatic, not something to just hang down the sides of the windows.

I love fabulous window treatments and could have a blast with this room!

the only room the dining room opens to is the kitchen. which is still white right now. the floors are a beigeish neutral color. we are buying a new kitchen table and it will be wood. everything else in there is white.

I did have some samples brought in for window treatments for this room - then when she brought the prices I about fell over- and that is why the windows are still bare! We're talking thousands & thousands & thousands of dollars for custom drapes in there - and you have a great eye - I did have samples of chocolate and blue brought it!
