Dining Reviews Sep 2008 & Feb 2009 Update 8/13 - Complete!

UPDATE - 2/14

I have the internet again, so will be continuing with my reviews shortly, but not tonight as I want to go to bed as I am very tired.

I have a very good reason though for being so tired. I took another trip to Disney World, with the deluxe dining plan again, this past week.

I will just be adding those reviews to this thread once I finish writing my reviews from this past fall. So there are 15 more reviews to come, in addition to the ones from the fall!

I cannot wait to hear about your February trip, I love your reviews!

WOO HOO can't wait. Hope you had a nice Vday!

I'm subbing
we have a lot of similar food tastes and i've read a couple great so far :goodvibes , can't wait for the ones of the restaurant i'm going to I can see they're coming!

Your reviews are great, and I can't wait for more! They are really helping me plan my trip! Thanks:thumbsup2

Hello all. My free time seems to be more scarace then ever recently, but I have some time now to work on my reviews. Unfortunatly the computer is also now in the dining room, which is more of an office in my house, and I have also misplaced the cord for my camera to upload all the pictures, so those will have to wait, but I can go on with the review, and I'll just add the pictures later.

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Breakfast

This was my fourth time dining at Akershus, but only me second time for breakfast. On my past visits I have been able to try breakfast, lunch, and dinner there, and breakfast is by far, the superior meal. As a matter of fact, I would only bother to eat lunch or dinner there again if I was with someone who really wanted to try authentic Norwegian cuisine, or if I desperatly wanted to see Ariel as a human, as this is the only location she appears.

But breakfast at Akershus is a wonderful meal, and I highly recommend it.

My ADR was for 8:50, but I was running a little late that morning. Even so, I was still seated by 9:05, so the wait was minimal. I always try to be on time, but I just couldn't get moving that morning.

The greeter that morning, as it had been the past two times, was Belle, who was in her yellow ball gown. She commented on the blue shirt I was wearing, and said that if she had been in her blue village dress, we would've matched. Later that same day in France, I saw Belle again, this time in her blue village dress, and she said how nice it was to see me again since she had changed, and now we matched.

Also, the photo package is now included with the price of the meal, and I believe it's one package per every four people dining. I could be mistaken, but since I'm always solo, I don't pay much attention to those kinds of things. (But being as I've eaten there twice since the photo has been included, how many more pictures of myself and Belle do I really need?)

I was then seated, and greeted by my server Renathe, who to be honest I can't quite remember. I do have written on my notes "good," and I rate on a scale of excellant, very good, good, fair, or poor, so she must've done a decent job, but was not, apparently, very memorable.

I then helped myself to some food from the cold buffet. I had some pineapple, cheese, and a cinnamon roll. Which thinking back was a quite odd combination. I really like the Jarlsburg cheese they serve here, and I believe it's the same kind of cheese they use in the potato casserole. The pineapple was nice and fresh, and the cinnamon roll was good as well.

At Akershus the hot food is served family style, and the meal consists of eggs, bacon, sausage, and potato casserole.

I'm not a huge fan of eggs, and am pretty picky on how they're cooked, but I've always found the ones at Akershus to be edible. The sausage was all right, and the bacon was good, but the main draw of the breakfast is always the potato casserole.

I was a little worried that it might not be as good as I remembered, but it was just as good, if not yummier. It's shredded and diced potoates, in a very rich cheese sauce, and it is absolutly delicious. I always eat too much of them, and also always get second helpings of the potatoes. But I can't help it they are so good.

The princesses that morning, (and it always seems to be the same rotation at breakfast,) were Jasmine, Aurora, Snow White, and Mulan, (who isn't even really a princess.) All were very pleasant, and a nice couple at the table next to me took my picture for me with each one.

Overall Akershus is one of my favorite breakfasts on property, and I'd rate the food and character interaction over the meal at Cinderella's Royal Table, though it is cool to get to eat in the castle.

Yesterday when I added the ADRs (for May), the CM gave me the date I could make ADRs for my Sep trip, she said make sure to get the DxDP again so I could use the snacks at F&W, then she confessed she's already made her own plans too. :lmao:

I know I haven't posted the cost totals for my 2008 trip yet, but I wanted to post the costs of this month's trip up before I lose track of my little notebook that I kept track of them in.

The cost of the deluxe dining plan was $71.99 a night, so it was just over $500 for the entire trip.

Before even getting into the costs of the table service meals, which I used every meal credit on, no counter service for me, the refillable mug I got, was worth $13.79 and the total value of the fourteen snacks I got was $56.85, so those alone were $70.64, almost the entire cost of one day of the plan.

On day one I ate at Rose and Crown for lunch, which used one credit, and would of cost $28.40, and had dinner at Narcoossees, which used two credits, but would of cost $75.93 out of pocket. The total cost of those two meals would of been $104.33. I also left a $5.00 tip out of pocket at Rose and Crown and a $13.00 tip at Narcoossees. Both of those were paid with the Disney gift card I had gotten as part of the 4/3 promotion, which was so nice just to have.

Total cost so far - $174.97

Note, the total cost, only includes what was covered on the plan, and not my out of pocket costs.

On day two, (and this was the only day I had three meals,) I had breakfast at Tusker House, which was $20.23, lunch at Yak and Yeti, which was approximatly $44.00, (they give no reciept at Yak and Yeti with the total cost of the meal if you are on a dining plan,) and dinner at Boma, which was $30.88. Total cost for the day was $95.11. As well as $4.00, $8.00, and $5.00 tips at each location respectivly.

Total cost so far - $270.08

On day three I had lunch at 50's Prime Time Cafe, (which was not planned, I was just lucky enough to get a walk up,) which cost $31.81, and dinner at Brown Derby, which used two credits, and cost $50.05, for a total cost of $81.86. Out of pocket costs were a $6.00 tip at Prime Time, and a $9.00 tip at Brown Derby.

Total cost so far - $351.94

On day four I had lunch at Grand Floridian Cafe, which cost $35.11, and dinner at Citricos, which cost 65.27, and used two credits. Total costs for the day were $100.38, which was covered on the plan, and a $6.00 tip out of pocket at the Grand Floridian Cafe, as well as $22.06 out of pocket at Citricos, which was the tip, as well as a drink I had with dinner.

Total cost so far - $452.32

On day five I had lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern, which cost $36.39, and dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse, which used two credits as well, and cost $73.80. The total cost of the meals were $110.19, and out of pocket costs were $12.00 at Liberty Tree Tavern, for the tip, as well as one of their collector mugs I bought, and $24.58 at Yachtsman Steakhouse, which was for the tip theree, as well as a glass of wine I had at dinner.

Total cost so far - $562.51

On day six I had breakfast at Akershus, which cost $30.88, and lunch at Tutto Italia, which cost $55.38, for a total cost of $86.26. Tips were $6.00 at Akershus, and $10.00 at Tutto Italia.

Total cost so far - $648.77

On day seven I had breakfast at Chef Mickey's, which cost $24.49, and dinner at California Grill, which used two credits, and was the most expensive meal of the trip, at a total cost of $99.45. Total cost of the two meals was $123.94, and tips at each were $4.00 and $18.00

Total cost so far - $772.71

On my last day I had lunch at Crystal Palace, which cost $22.36, and left a tip of $4.00.

The total food cost of the entire trip, that was covered by the deluxe dining plan was $795.07, so almost $300.00 in savings.

Now, would have I ordered all this food, had I not been on the deluxe plan? No. But I know I would've probably spent at least the $500.00 the plan had cost me, and it was so nice to be able to order anything on the menu, and not worry about the cost at all.

Thanks for the very detailed breakdown. We use the Deluxe plan the same way you do. It doesn't work for everybody, but for us it makes our vacation a lot more enjoyable :thumbsup2

I love to see the price breakdown! I have the deluxe ddp for December and would be happy if its the same price as I paid just because it takes away from the stress of having to pull out my wallet at every restaurant and keeping track of my account while on vacation
those are some really great savings though!!

I really enjoy it as well, especially since I like to eat at the signature restaurants.

I agree I like to have everything paid for in advance

Great review. I'm thinking of trying there for breakfast on my solo trip in Dec. The potato casserole sounds too yummy!

How wonderful that you had another Disney trip with food reviews you can share. Your pictures are fabulous and the reviews are so informative. Did you manage to get any recipes this time - like for the bread at Kona?

I always mean to ask for recipes, and always forget. :rolleyes1

There is one recipe I feel really bad about not getting, the one for the pasta primevara at Crystal Palace. I'm kicking myself for not getting it now.
