In case you missed Parts 1 & 2...
Our party consisted of myself (very plain eater and not very adventurous) & DH (better than me, but not into anything really funky), our 2 DS (they are worse than me and pretty much only eat pizza, macaroni or hotdogs), and my mother (more adventurous than DH & I).
CAPTAIN COOKS- Throughout our stay at the Poly we picked up chips a few times here and of course made many visits to fill our refillable mugs, but we didnt really eat any lunch or dinner meals here. However we did have a couple quick breakfasts on the go here. DH had the bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich on a croissant. Last time he had gotten this it wasnt very good at all, but this time it was ok. He at least ate it. He also got hash browns which were good. I tried them too and agree, they were good. I had the chocolate chip muffin which I liked very much, but one I got didnt have many chips in it. The kids had cereal and DM had cereal and banana, and a Krispy Kreme donut. Those were all good.
PLANET HOLLYWOOD- We wanted to go back here after having a good experience last year, but we were unable to make a PS. After calling a few times we were told they arent taking PS between 5:00-10:00pm until some time in September, but to ask for a referral card at Guest Services at our resort. We did this and were given a card that was supposed to get us seated right away and get us a free appetizer of the Captain Crunch Chicken Fingers. Well, the card worked well and we were able to be seated within minutes of arriving. This was about 5:00pm on a Friday.
We got our free chicken as an appetizer, but only the adults ate it. We all liked it very much. DH & I also split a Caesar salad and it was good. DH got the chicken broccoli & penne dish which he had gotten last year too. He liked it less this year. The chicken was basically a piece of grilled chicken on top of the pasta and broccoli with the cream sauce. While DH really liked the rest of the meal, he wasnt thrilled with the grilled chicken. He would have preferred the chicken cooked in pieces throughout the meal, like he's used to. I tried some of everything except the broccoli and I thought it was all very good. DM and I both got the LA Lasagna which I discovered I really enjoyed last year. I couldnt wait to have it again and it didn't disappoint. DM was also very pleased with this choice and thought it was very different. It consists of pasta, like a piece of lasagna, rolled up and filled with cheese & sausage(I dont remember the sausage from last year, either its new, or it was definitely less last year). Its then fried and covered with tomato sauce and melted cheese. There were 4 pieces of this on the plate and neither of us could finish. Its a very filling meal. Although it wasnt on the menu the kids were able to get plain penne. They liked that better than they liked the pizza there last year and the plates were huge.
KONA CAFÉ- We visited here a few times during our stay at the Poly.
One day for lunch we got Sticky Wings to go. We took them back to our room and ate them on the balcony. Their name says it all, they are very, very messy, but they are worth the work. They're delicious!
We also had breakfast here one day. We had a PS for 7:30 am and didnt need it. It always surprises me how empty this restaurant is as it is so good. We were seated right away and our service was very good. I got the pancakes, which I had loved the last time I got them and they were just as good this time. There are 3 good sized pancakes, but I forced myself to finish them. They also come with a choice of bacon or sausage and I got the sausages which were very good too. DM got the Tonga Toast which was delicious as always. DH had his usual here which is the 2 eggs any way, home fries, choice of bacon or sausage and a biscuit. DH chose the eggs overeasy, bacon and also got a side of toast. Everything was great and we were stuffed. The kids had cereal and Cinnamon French Toast, and they did very well with those.
Something I hadnt planned on, but wanted to try was Kona for lunch. In the end we were able to fit it in our schedule for our last day. Our limo was picking us up at 1:00 and they didnt start serving lunch until 12:00. We decided to make the PS and take our chances. We arrived around 11:40 and checked in. The hostess took our name but didnt do anything. Soon, about 11:50-55 we saw people checking in and getting pagers. We then had to go back and recheck in and had quite a few people ahead of us now. This got us worried of course, but in the end it worked out fine. Our waitress was very efficient and worked with us(we mentioned we were getting picked up at 1:00, hoping to move things along). We all knew what we were ordering as soon as we were seated so that helped too.
DH & DM got the burgers. Again, they were very happy with these ones and they said they too measured up to B&C's burgers. The fries were very good too(I tried some). I had the Pan Asian Pasta which consisted of chicken chunks, vegetables(carrots, onions, peppers, some sort of lettuce, etc), and pasta(like a thick spaghetti), all mixed together in a Asian type of sauce. I was very pleased with this. It's not something I would be dying to have again, but I would definitely order it again if I ended up at the Kona for lunch. The kids had hot dogs and instead of fries they were able to substitute gold fish crackers. Everyone ate up and we were done in plenty of time to catch our limo.
MAIN STREET ICE CREAM PARLOR- Since we had had a big breakfast and were planning on a big dinner the same night, we skipped lunch and instead picked up ice creams on our way out of the MK for our midday break. DH got Chocolate Chip, I got Mint Chocolate Chip, as did Colton. Cam got Cookies and Cream. We took these to the tables around the corner from the Parlor and ate while the Castle stage show was going on. What could be better than Ice Cream on a hot day at the MK!
OHANA- We discovered this restaurant on our last trip and knew we had to go back there. DM had never been and wanted to try it too. DH's birthday was the perfect night to do it. We had a PS for 5:00pm and arrived about 4:55. There was quite a long line built up at this point. CMs moved through the line asking for names and PS times. They then gave us a card to present to the CM at the desk. Once DH did this he was given a pager. Less than 5 minutes later, when it was about 5:15, we "beeped" and we were seated.
We were started with the pineapple bread. The odd thing was we were only given 4 pieces and their were 5 of us. In the end we found out DS shouldnt eat it anyway because he is allergic to peanuts and since the bread isnt made onsite, they couldnt guarantee it was peanut free. We ordered drinks, DH had a Beer, DM had a Cosmopolitan(I think it was called a South Pacific Cosmopolitan, or something to that affect), and I had to get the Lapu Lapu. The last time I had 1 I thought it was good, but not strong like Ive heard people report here. Well after having one this time, I have to take back my previous opinion. This thing tasted like pure alcohol!
It was tough, but I was able to drink it.
After our drinks, the Starters came over. These were a salad, chicken wings, shrimp wontons, green beans with bacon bits(I think, I didnt eat them), and fried rice. These are served family style and are refillable. The meat came around on skewers. I started with turkey, but then had some Beef(what I really wanted). I have heard occasionally that the meats are dry here at Ohana, but I hadn't experienced that on our last trip. This time the first 2 pieces of beef I took were very dry. I had to load on the sauces. When they came around again, I only took 1 more beef because I wasnt thrilled with it before. This time it was cooked perfectly and juicy. I guess its the luck of the draw of how your meat is cooked here. Out of this meal, my favorites were the bread, salad, wings & rice. DH liked the wings, rice and steak the best. DM ws very impressed with her first visit here and the only thing she didnt really care for was the shrimp. Shes not used to it being grilled so it didnt taste right to her, however she did like the Shrimp Wontons(DH & I dont eat fish, however DH tried the shrimp wontons and thought they were pretty good). DS were able to get Grilled Cheese & Fries and a Hot Dog & Fries. 1 DS also tried the rice and really liked it. The kids also had a ball doing the coconut races. This was our second time here and neither time have we seen the hula hoop contests.
Once again this was one of those meals we had to be wheeled out of. We definitely got our moneys worth here.
I think that covers everything we had. As you can see we had great dining experiences on this trip. I had to laugh though. A few months ago at my DS's baseball game I was talking to a mother I know from school about her trip last October. She told me how she was so sick of hamburgers by the end of her trip, because thats all they have in WDW. ROFL! Boy did we prove her wrong.
