On Monday night (10/6) we ate at Cape May Cafe. We had a PS and about a 5 minute wait time. They have changed things a bit since I was there last, but nothing was really worse or better. The desserts are up front now, not part of the big square. Anyway I started with salad, cole slaw and some big doughy yummy yeast rolls. I think I also threw an ear of corn on my plate the first pass through. Mom had some chowder and salad. She declared the chowder delish. While waiting for our turn at the salad bar, a 12 year old girl in front of us made it a point to dab just a bit of ranch on every single veggie on her plate, oblivious to the line stacking up behind her. Tedious. When I went back for round two, I got a few ribs, a piece of salmon, some rice that had bitty shrimp in it, some green beans, a small chicken strip, another roll & a small piece of prime rib. Everything was delish. A woman in front of me on the land lubbers side was watching the CM put some new pieces of chicken in the roasted chicken dish- the lady says "You got any white meat in there? (there was previously only drumsticks right before she put the new meat in) And the CM said, sure, what would you like?" I could see a breast right there the CM was moving a drumstick out of the way to get to it and while she was doing that the lady says "THAT'S NOT WHITE MEAT!" And the CM calmly says "Oh well, here is a breast, will that be ok?" And the lady grumpily said "yes." It was so rude- if you saw the breast piece yourself, why ask the CM to root around for you...I walked past their table on the way back and saw her husband had a PILE and I mean PILE on TWO plates of clams, shrimp and mussells...like he probably took all that was left in the dish. I personally find that rude...take a reasonable amount and go back and get more- don't take 50 clams and leave the person behind you with an empty shell and clam juice. Anyway, onward- Mom had several shellfish and a piece of prime rib- I counted- the chef went through 4 prime ribs while we were there just under an hour! Wow! Onto the best part- desserts! I had an Oreo bonbon that everyone on the boards raves about and I agree- divine! I had about 4 bites of cheesecake, a nibble of apple cobbler, & an oatmeal cookie. Everything was awesome. Mom had key lime pie and some flan. And a bon bon after I told her how good they were. We rolled out of there and I gimped over to the Boardwalk and we bought a coffee cake for the next morning to share (A big brick of coffee cake for about $2.50). I was so FULL! It was very good- our server was ok- she refilled my half glass of water with Sprite so it tasted really funny when I took a big gulp, but no biggee. I would give dinner an A for the food and B for the service. About $62 with tip.
Tuesday 10/7 lunch- 50's Primetime Cafe. This was something we flaked on last time, so we were determined to do it. We had a PS right at 11:30, so we were one of the first 10 tables called in- the whole restaurant is so cute and kitchy. I love it. We had cousin Mesha as our server and she was fine, but not really into it, but enough to make us smile. We saw cousin Patrick who was our dud server in March at Whispering Canyon- still a dud at 50's Primetime. I had the turkey sandwich and fries- crinkly cut and crispy- num! Mom had the pot roast which she loved and is what Mesha recommended. We saw some scolding at other tables, but nothing too embarrassing or outrageous. We went for it and had the s'mores for dessert which were soooooooooooooooo good..or as Mesha would say "Yummae." not quite yummy with the accent on the second y, but a very casual "How is everything, yummae?" Or maybe more like "Yummeh." For the rest of the trip this cracked us up and we would constantly ask each other "How's your tea? Yummae? Ooo...my salad is so yummae." I even text messaged my Mom while I was stopped in Kansas City on the way home and she was stopping in New Orleans- "How's your peanuts? Yummae?" I guess you had to be there. All in all it was a good meal, a B+. $40 with tip.
Wednesday- Seaworld food, in a word, stinks. We had the coffee cake from the boardwalk for breakfast, which was "Yummeh" and we split some small nachoes and 1 slice of veggie pizza that came with fries (???????not a breadstick or salad???????) and was okay, but kinda yucky. And an $8 slice of pizza at that. Plus two drinks and it was over $20. Ugh. Not much variety to be found at all. D+
Dinner- back to one of our old faves, Whispering Canyon Cafe. We had "Hedda Lettuce" for our server and she was a kick without being completely over the top- another waitress in our area fit that bill and she completely cracked me up. She was picking on a guy not even in her section named Mark, because Mark didn't want a big fuss made over him...that waitress made sure we all knew Mark by the end of our meal. We both had the skillet and particularly enjoyed the salad, the biscuits, the ribs, chicken and coleslaw. The pulled pork was quite good as well, and my mom loved the sausage. We had seconds on ribs and chicken and chatted with Hedda about blowing our Weight Watchers for the week. She said "What about those Flex points?" And we said we blew them long ago- like on Sunday. She laughed and said "Well, you do do a lot of walking" And mom said AND SWEATING and Hedda cracked up. It was a fun meal and we LOVE the lodge. A+ because it's good food at a reasonable price, with people who try really hard to make us laugh and have a good time.
After we walked around the lodge, we actually were able to buy some ice cream at the Contemporary and stuff that down our throats as well...yummy softserve.
Our last day- sniff- We had a snack of popcorn early- around 9:30, but we had been up since 6:15. We had lunch at the uninspiring Cosmic Rays...the chicken side wasn't open yet- darnit. The sandwich sounded really heavy with ham, salami AND pepperoni, so we opted for the oh-so-lite burgers and fries.
Again, I piled on the grilled onions and mom the shrooms and we tossed more than 1/2 our fries. We had a Dole Whip swirl around 1:00 for dessert- mega yummeh!! C for Cosmic Rays, A++++ for the Dole Whip!!
