Part 2 of our dining experience this trip
My DW and I went down to WDW for the annual Flower and Garden Festival (or for me, the Flower Power Concerts). Since this is NOT the food and wine festival where we eat till we drop
, we were able to eat at some restaurants.
Here is a list of places we ate in order of appearance and review. All are first time places for us.
Part 2
Bomas
Sand Trap
Artists Point
Sunday May 25 - Bomas
Had an 8:00 PM PS. We waited for about 10 minutes. We were seated right next to the carving station. Good seats since we saw when they brought out fresh food. The waiter mentioned the food items available that night, but while we were there, they brought out other items. I dont know if they normally do that or if they just ran out of the original items.
Ordered a bottle of Chardonnay from Africa (cant remember the name German sounding name if I remember right)
All the food was pretty good. I think I tried just about everything. One of the soups (cant remember which) I didnt care for.
The desserts ranged from OK to out of this world. The cheesecake was great.
Monday May 26 Sand Trap
Based on Uncleromuluss recommendation, we had lunch there about 1:30. There are about 15-20 tables in the restaurant. Only four were taken (including our table) during our entire stay. My DW had iced tea and I had a draft beer (Sam Adams, I think). The beer came in a large (16-20 ounce) iced glass goblet. I had a club sandwich. My DW had a ruben. The waitress was Debbie (I think). Her service was impeccable. Both sandwiches were good and prices were very reasonable. Air conditioned, beautiful view of the golf course. This place should be on everyones list who go to WDW to relax, and stop and smell the roses.
Artists Point
Read so many good things about Artists Point, we planned on eating there during this our first time staying at WL. We had late reservations, so the restaurant was pretty empty. We were promptly seated and handed our menus and a wine list. This is where it got to be a little strange. There were wine selections for each item on the menu. OK So far so good. You could also get three 2.5 oz glasses of wine to compliment dinner. On the menu, the price for this was $14 and on the wine list, it was $16. We asked the waitress what the difference was (different wines?). Well, she couldnt give us a clear (to us) answer even after we asked some follow up questions. We ordered the three wine special anyway.
My DW ordered venison spring rolls with hot sweet and sour sauce as an appetizer and I ordered rabbit sausage with mini greens, roasted red pepper and grain mustard vinaigrette. For the main course, she ordered grilled buffalo sirloin with sweet potato hazelnut gratin and sweet onion jam. I ordered the roasted copper river salmon with maple whiskey glaze, root smash and Swiss chard
I was expecting different wines for each of us. So, before the appetizers came out, the waitress brought out 3 wine glasses for each of us. OK, similar to a wine tasting (but I was still a little confused). Then she brought out three bottles of wine and proceeded to fill each of our glasses. So we are sitting there with three glasses of wine each and we each have the same three wines!! Now I'm sitting there very confused!? So much for wines specially selected to compliment dinner. The wines our server selected were a Hogue Fume Blanc, a Ponzi Reserve Chardonnay, and a Woodward Canyon Merlot. They were very good wines but the way they were served was very unusual.
The buffalo seemed a little fatty to me, but my DW liked it a lot.
As others have posted, the glaze on the salmon was not real apparent. I was tempted to switch, but I didnt chicken out by substituting mashed potatoes for the celery root smash. Actually the smash tasted better than OK.
It will be our list to come again.
