:earsgirl: Back from my half-marathon trip to WDW. (I did it! ;))

Cast:
Myself: :earsgirl: 25 year old disney fiend who is a true foodie, and loves a great meal almost as much as the parks. Likes adventure in food, but felt like classic home cookin this trip.
Boyo: :earsboy: Adorable 29 year old boyfriend who really only eats food derived from cow. Hesitant to try new things, but feels somehow safer about it in the World.

Plan: We had 3 days all stars music with dining, and 3.5 days DVC without dining.

Day 1:
Breakfast: OOP: :earsgirl: :earsboy: Arrived at MCO at 6:15am. Took express right to All Stars Music to enjoy our Mickey Waffle breakfast in the food court. Standard fare, but comfortable and always tasty. I like that this is the same no matter where you go on property. It is the start of a great vacation.
Lunch: OOP: San Angel Inn at Epcot/Mexico: The waitstaff only met with us momentarily to seat us, to bring us food, and to bring us the check. Service wasn't as good as it could have been.
:earsgirl: Tacos Al Pastor (No onions) - Mine were very very good. Very juicy an meaty. I topped off each taco with sour cream and guac, and it would instantly melt into the juice of the pork. The texture of the meat was very lean (no fatty or grisly taste) and I would eat this again.
:earsboy: Tacos Al Carbon (Steak): He liked it, but thought the steak was a bit chewy. The steak itself was flavorful, but not the best cut of meat. I had a bite and thought it was quite similar to a steak taco at Taco Bell. Then again, I love the Taco bell. He would eat this again, but only if we were on a really tight budget, as he felt other food was much better. He also got a giant margarita to share, and it was really pretty tasty. Not too strong, but not too weak. Mixed very well.

Dinner: DDP Counter: AsMu Food Court:
:earsgirl: Got the half-marathon pasta special at ASMu food court. Spaghetti with really tasty pasta sauce, a pizza-hut style breadstick, and a really really good cheesecake slice from the refrigerated section. It was just a carb fest to give me energy the next morning.
:earsboy: wasn't hungry, and fell asleep by 7pm, due to our red-eye flight into MCO that day.

Day 2: (Saturday/half marathon day) --no breakfast for either. Just energy bars for half marathon.
Lunch: DDP Counter: AsMu Food Court:
:earsgirl: Chicken Strips and chocolate cake: The chicken was very bland. I will not ever get this again. The fries were tasty, but a little too salty. The chocolate cake had good icing, but it was too sweet. I love dessert and I didn't even finish half of it.
:earsboy: He had the pizza. The crust was pretty dry, but the interior of the pizza was very tasty. He had the carrot cake, but thought it just tasted like vanilla cake...not much carrot at all.
Honestly, we were not expecting a terrific meal here. Just something fast and filling to fulfill the need of hunger. We like the food courts, just don't love them, and it's hard to compare them to the delish nature of table service meals.
Dinner: Le Cellier/Epcot Canada: DDP Table
:earsboy:
Drink: Raspberry Chocolate Smoothie: - Decadent, and desert like. So rich and tasty, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
App: Beef Barley Soup - He raved about it as something he really needed. It was piping hot, and tasted great with the pretzel bread. It wasn't too salty, which is common with beef soup. It was just very flavorful and hearty.
Entree: Filet with BBQ glaze and cream cheese mashed potatoes: He thought this was the best steak he's had in years. He loved the glaze, he loved the potatoes. The steak was prepared perfectly as a Medium.
Dessert: Maple Creme Brulee: I've never seen his face look so glazed after eating anything before. He was in pure heaven. He loved the cinnamon whipped cream on top, and claimed he would have eaten a plate of just that! Top to bottom he felt that this was one of the most perfect meals of his life. Will we be back? Count on it.
:earsgirl:
Drink: The waitress was nice enough to let me get the Northern Lights kids drink with the ice cube as part of the dining plan at no charge. Excellent! I played with my red glowing cube for the rest of the night! I enjoyed my sprite float, don't get me wrong...but that's not why I bought the drink. I love blinky things!
App: I got the smoked candied salmon stack on cucumber. It seemed new to the menu. The description was misleading. It sounded like a deep smoked candied jerky salmon which sounded amazing. When I got it, it was much more like lox, with a balsamic glaze. I didn't eat much of it, as it wasn't what I was expecting, although the salmon was incredibly fresh, and a great catch. When the waitress saw I wasn't gobbling it down, she asked if I'd like another app. I said, no, as I thought I'd be eating enough during the meal anyway. She seemed very apologetic and said that many people that ordered it were misled. Again, I want to emphasize that it was an excellent appetizer, just not my taste.
Entree: I also had the filet. I had it dry, as I'm usually afraid of a sweet glaze on meat. I asked for the maple bbq on the side, and used it for the potatoes. It made an excellent gravy, and it was all very delicious.
Dessert: I had the Happiest Celebration on Earth Chocolate Whiskey Cake. It was so tasty. It had a great orange taste, which reminded me of the holiday chocolate oranges. I was in heaven.

---It was amazing.

This is my first time writing dining reviews, so if you have pointers, let me know. I'm feeling the need for some breakfast so future days will be added in the next couple of hours. - Tina

Thank you so much. I LOVE reading such detailed eating reviews:) It lets me relive our trips:) And seeing as how we're probably not going back for a couple of years, it tides me over for a while:)

Thanks for the reviews! They were good. And congrats on doing the marathon!

:earsgirl: ON TO DAY 3!

Day 3: Magic Kingdom
Breakfast: We Split a Cinnamon muffin at the Main Street Bakery. It was very yummy and crunchy on the outside, and went great with orange juice. It was huge and just hit the spot to tide us over till lunch.
Lunch: Pecos Bills: DDP Counter Service
:earsgirl: Burger with Bacon combo with Carrots, Water, and Chocolate/peanut butter Mousse cake. Love Pecos. Love the toppings bar. Big fan of adding fresh veggies that aren't wilted from the heat, as well as tasty grilled onions. The meat was cooked through, but not burnt (an issue with many theme park burgers), and the bun was very tasty. I liked the peanut butter mousse that topped the cake, but didn't really care for the cake itself.
:earsboy: He got the cheeseburger, and liked it as well. He thought that next time, we'd try to always eat counter service at the parks instead of at the All Stars Food Courts. We know this isn't an issue at all hotels, but our counter service in the All Stars was just a wee bit lower in taste than the counter service at the parks. No dessert for him, he was saving room for a tollhouse ice cream sandwich snack.

Dinner: Cinderella's Royal Table: DDP Table Service - Opted to go here before the price raise and double credits. We aren't too into character dining anyways, so we'll be sad to see this convert to character too. They still took our picture with Cindy in the lobby.
:earsgirl: :earsboy: -This was a nearly identical meal for both of us.
Beverage: They wouldn't let us get a specialty drink like Le Cellier would, but that was allright by us. I just got a lemonade - he got a coke.

App: :earsgirl: I had the cheese soup. It was very tasty and rich, but Le Cellier has a better one. The reason is that Le Cellier's was more like soup. Here it is more like melted cheese fondue, so it is very thick. I don't know if anyone could finish it. They also have pretzel bread here, so it was a good experience. The honey butter was really tasty on the bread too.

App: :earsboy: He had asked if he could get a caesar type salad (romaine lettuce/croutons/cheese) with Ranch dressing instead of caesar. The waitress said no problem, but when she delivered his salad, she brought him a dry house salad with dressing on the side. Neither of us is apt to complain or ask for something else, so he ate it, but he was a little disappointed I could tell.

Entree: Filet of Beef. I enjoyed it, but felt it lacked a little since there were no potatoes with it. It seemed like it had less substance. Also, the sauce was way too sweet, and it had nothing to counterbalance it. I should have gotten the meat dry, but since it was a wine sauce, I thought it would be all right. *shrug* He thought his was really tasty, but preferred Le Cellier. It was at this point that I knew there would be a steak rating at the end of my dining reviews. lol.

Dessert: Key Lime Creme Brulee - Top NOTCH! We both enjoyed it, and it was just tart enough without being overwhelming. We both liked the graham cracker biscotti that it was served with, but we were so full that neither of us could finish. Little did I know that he snuck his biscotti into his shirt pocket so he could enjoy it during Wishes. lol.

DAY 4:
MGM:
Breakfast: We had an ice cream breakfast using our snack credits (if on vacation, why not?!) We got a tollhouse ice cream sandwich and a mickey bar. Nothing could be sweeter than an ice cream breakfast in Walt Disney World.
Lunch: We had a late lunch ressie at Mama Melrose's for the fantasmic dining plan. We set it up with our DDP Table service.
This was our one bad meal. We had bad service, where our waitress kept asking if we were done yet, and if she could "move us along". She hovered over us, and we felt really rushed.

App: We both got the Fantasmic Salad. We both didn't really like it. The dressing had no flavor, and was very bland. We were served a hard sesame bread with it, and when I asked if I could have some balsamic vinegar for dipping, the waitress said she'd have to check if they had any. Luckily, they did. The bread was very dry and lackluster as well.

App2: We split the Pepperoni Flatbread. Again, the pizza we had earlier in the AsMu food court was better. It was just bland, and served rather cold. For the first time, I watched the boyo opt to pass on a second slice of pizza.

Entree: :earsgirl: I had the Chicken Parm. The chicken itself was VERY good. Cheesy, but not oily, and cooked just right. Unfortunately, the spaghetti it was served with had an extremely acidic spaghetti sauce that I could barely stomach. I actually thought my runner's special spaghetti back at the All Stars Music food court before the marathon tasted better.

:earsboy: He had the Sausage and Pasta. Again, the sausage was very good and full of flavor, but everything else was bland. This is the very first time in the history of our relationship that I have EVER seen him choose to not finish a pasta dish. That was a big sign to me that we were both unhappy.

Dessert: He got the tiramisu, but was disappointed to find out it was the same one that was served at Starring rolls for a cheaper price. He thought it would at least be plated with a special sauce. I had the coffee tartufo, which was very tasty, and my best part of my meal. However, it didn't make up for the fact that Neither of us enjoyed our meal.
When the bill came, we were very glad to be on the dining plan. Somehow knowing that we didn't actually pay that $89 bill (though we paid for part of it) made it seem better. Having to pay out of pocket, we would have felt suckered. We will never again eat here.

Dinner: Roaring Forks Counter Service using the final bits of our meal credit.
He got a hot dog. I got a pizza, and the pizza was again much better than what we were served earlier at Mama's. The hostess told us to get a "side" like chips or fruit with our entree, so we did. Doritos. Mmm. We had never encountered this at ASMu and just assumed it was a nice CM. We also each had a "Magic Cookie bar" which was a very good blondie with coconut/toffee/chocolate chips. We both enjoyed it.

Day 5!:
Animal Kingdom: - No more dining plan. :(
We bought pop tarts and toasted em up in our Villas toaster. Dvc Points rental at its best. Good start to the day.
Lunch: We went to Flame Tree BBQ and both had a tasty meal.
He got: BBQ beef sandwich. It was very flavorful and tender. The sauce wasn't overpowering. The meat had little grisle and fat, and he commented that it tasted like shredded steak, as opposed to leftover meats which is what many BBQ beef sandwiches can taste like. We split a basket of fries which were standard Disneyland fry fare.
I got a kids hot dog meal so that I wouldn't feel guilty about getting the Key Lime Pie. I felt like a glutton most of the week, so this was back to my standard way of eating. The hot dog was tasty and the Pie was like the refrigerated store brand that they sometimes serve at Long John Silver's. It was good and filling, and we'd both get our respective meals again.

Dinner: We had ressies at Boma, but were going to Disney Quest and Downtown Disney that night, so we cxled those and headed on over. I went to Cooke's and got Fish and Chips. He went to Sausage and got a hot dog with fries.
-The fish and Chips were SOOOO Tasty. The cod was very fresh and he even commented that it didn't smell "fishy". :)
-His hot dog was HUGE and more of a sausage - He enjoyed it too.
We then went on a candy fest and I made my own peanut butter cup dipped chocolate pretzel at Goofy's and he got some fresh cotton candy. This was a very tasty evening.

DAY 6! - Park Hopping Day.
-Started the day at MGM. We split the grapefruit cake and banana splitcake from the Starring Rolls Bakery. The grapefruit cake was good, but I think it really is an afternoon treat. It was just a little too pungent that early in the morning. The banana splitcake was demolished by both of us, and neither of us is a real banana fan. It was a banana loaf on the bottom that tasted like it had been rum soaked, and a banana custard on top. If you are a banana fan, you should give it a go!
-Lunch at Sci Fi:
-I got the kids drink so I could get yet another glowing Ice cube. (Fiend of blinky things). Our waiter was super silly and we had a great time.
Entree: He got the adult burger. I politely asked the waiter if I could possibly order the kids burger as I knew I just wasn't that hungry, and we were planning on splitting a sundae at beaches and cream later that afternoon. He said "No Problem!" -yes, bigger tip for him.
When he brought out the kids/adult burger we were shocked that they were the exact same size. The only difference was more fries on his plate and less veggies on mine. Strange really. I still didn't finish it, but it was good none the less.

BIG SNACK! - We headed from MGM to the Beach club for our treat at :
Beaches and Cream: We split the Milky Way Sundae.
The boyo had never been here, so when they brought out the platter of ice cream his jaw literally dropped. IT was huge and fantastic. We didn't finish it, but we made a decent dent. We both got giddy on the sugar effect and it was a terrific way to start winding down our trip. Goopy gobs of chocolate and carmel syrup make Tina a happy girl.

Dinner: Chefs de France - Our only big meal out of Pocket.
App: He opted for an imported French Beer - 1655 I think?, which he really liked. After I had a taste, it was interesting to note that it tasted more like a frothy wine than a beer. Very light and yummy though.
I had the Onion Soup. Let me just say that this was the best Onion soup I've had ever in my life. The onions would literally fall apart and melt in your mouth. The Gruyere was toasted and melted through. The french bread on top delicious. I am craving it right now!

Entree: Guess what! FILET! This was a filet served with a gravy like wine sauce (I liked it better than the wine sauce at the castle) and Gratin Potatoes and garlic basted green beans. I got my steak medium well and he had his medium. Let me just say that this was the most perfectly cooked steak of the trip. I have never had a medium well steak be so tender that I could literally cut it with my butter knife (and did, as they brought out our steak knives on a separate platter ---oops! :))
He spent the whole meal bantering back and forth to debate whether France or Canada was better. Honestly, the Gratin Potatoes were astonishingly tasty, the steak delish, the green beans full of flavor and cooked just until they snapped without being to soggy or too crunchy. A perfect meal.
Dessert: We Split the Vanilla Bean creme Brulee. It had a more muted flavor than the key lime or maple cremes from earlier in the week, but the texture was like velvet and to die for!
Just as our dessert came out, Illuminations began, so we enjoyed our final table service meal with the fireworks. Afterwords, we went out into the france pavillion, and for no apparent reason started to waltz together. It was a perfect moment.

Last Day:
We just snacked for the day.
Final box of popcorn for him.
A dole float for me (he'd never had one - so he tried and loved)
A funnel cake for him
A Cappucino float (let me say this was a VERY good idea, and want to try to make one at home, as it was perfection)
--A few candy sticks for the road.

-----Then it was off to the airport and a final hot dog treat at Nathan's in the Delta wing. The fries there are pretty tasty. Hmm. .

And so ends a Disney World Steak and Creme Brulee Spectacular!
--Best Creme Brulee: Maple in Canada. The Cinnamon Whipped Cream was lush and creamy.
--Best Steak: A tie for Le Cellier and Chefs de France. He liked Canada better. I liked France better. We'll be back to both.

Thanks! I love reading such detailed reviews like this!! :sunny:

Thanks for the reviews! My son and I are going in Sept. I'm a vegetarian, but he's a big steak eater. Le Cellier was already on our list, but he'll be pleased to hear such a raving review! I've eaten there once, but he never has. That creme brulee sounds really good!

We had also talked about possibly going to Les Chefs de France. Neither of us has been. You may have just talked us into it!!

Thank you soooooo much for the yummy reviews! I am also planning on ordering kids burger meals from SciFi when I go on our mother/daughter trip in the fall. I had a feeling they were the same thing (adult size burger and kid size burger), and you confirmed it!

Thanks again for sharing-I just gained 5 pounds from reading this!! :confused3

Thanks for the reviews. My DH really wants to go to Mama Melrose's, but this review makes me nervous. I can't picture him not loving any kind of pasta though. :rotfl2:

Youre reviews were great, made mine look real bad when I did it, guess I wasn't made out to type reviews. :cool1:

Yes good reviews! We just got back ourselves and we ate steak in France at the Bistro one and steak in Canada and I think Canada had the better steak. I loved every single place we ate at and we ate at a lot of places....our wallet is now quite empty after ten days of that :confused3 :cool1: :goodvibes :faint:

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

To the lovely lady who asked about Mama's.

I know that many people have had great experiences there, but ours was truly terrible. I know that I am not apt to give a bad place a second chance, so even if it was just an off day on their part, it was enough to make us refuse to return.

I am trying not to be melodramatic, but our exeperience at Mama's was so awful that we really did prefer the food at both the AsMu and Roaring Forks Counter Service far better than this place. Everyone needs to make decisions for themselves, but I feel that if I can at all deter you from Mama's, that I should, as I know that many folks will speak quite highly of it.

-Tina
