Currently at the Swan on our honeymoon. Our first night we ate at Il Mulino-boy do we miss Palios! The prices are sky-high. We each had the gnocchi bolognese. The gnocchi was fresh-homemade-but the meat sauce reminded me of chef boyardee for some reason. Just not tasty. The breadsticks were tasty and the service was impeccable. I had some fabulous wine. I told them it was our honeymoon for the ressie and was hoping for some little token of congratulations, but there was none. As for Palios I know they would have done something! The ambiance is nice but not as laid back as Palios and they sat us next to a family with little kids for our honeymoon (this has ironically happened to us at all three restaurants we've had TS and I remember ppl mentioning this as a complaint on Dis posts).

On to Big River We both got top sirloin. I asked for mine medium rare and got well done. They asked if we wanted onions and mushrooms on our steaks, we said yes, found it was an extra charge on bill at end of meal (did not like that). They replaced my steak with one that was rare and forgot to put the onions and mushrooms on second steak. Offered us free dessert to make up for it, but we were too full. DH loved the beer sampler

Kimonos They remembered us from last year! Delicious sushi and great Sepphora beer for DH. Great service, quick and friendly. But family was placed next to us with little ones. I like kids but we couldn't sit near one another because it was cramped!

Value A- (sushi adds up quickly and drinks are super pricey!)

thanks for the reviews - have been thinking about trying Kimonos for our August trip - hubby and all three boys love sushi

and

:cheer2: CONGRADULATIONS:woohoo:

I was thinking about changing one of our August ADRs so that we could try the new italian place, but I did think the prices for pasta were high.

Congrats on the whole marriage thing! Best Wishes!

I've wanted to try Kimonos for the sushi and kareoke. Do they still do this and is it an appropriate place for a mom with a pre-teen? Sounds like there are kids there too. Let me know and thank you.

Thanks for the review. We were going to try this restaurant earlier this week, but I decided not to due to the pricey menu.

It wasn't really the prices that discouraged me, but the fact that I neglected to do any research on the restaurant prior to our trip. Palios used to be one of our favorites, and I didn't want to put out so much money for the meal without knowing what to expect. (This was proabably because we had a $111 meal at Bistro De Paris that I wasn't too thrilled with, and also didn't research that restaurant prior to trip... so I guess I was a little gun shy.)

However, based on your review I may try it in December. The fact that the pasta was homemade is a plus... And they 10 months to learn how to make sauce that doesn't taste like Chef Boyardee. So I will keep my fingers crossed!

We also ate at the Big River Grille. DH had a burger which was good, and I had the meatloaf that was burnt to a crisp. I didn't complain though. We sat outside, and the service was impeccable so I didn't want to complain to our waiter.

Congratulations on your wedding... and I hope you have many more good meals during your honeymoon! Best wishes for your future together! :goodvibes

Last October, DH and I dined at BRG. I had the sirloin. It was over done and had absolutely no flavor. (they also got me on the mushroom and onion thing) It was a very big disappointment. DH had the pasta dish and he said that had little or no flavor. Very bland. We were staying at the BWV's so BRG was a convenient place to get to for dinner. We skipped our ADR for Kona that night because we were too tired to travel to the Poly. Boy, was I sorry we skipped Konas after that bad meal.

I chalked it up to the fact the place is a brewery. Maybe people really just go there for the beer? :confused3

Mickeycraze- the service was good at Big River, I agree with that. Good luck with Il Mulino...I will look for your review! I heard that the tortellini is excellent (reservationists informed us of this) so you might want to try that dish.

Kimonos is a fine place to bring kids/pre-teens. Karaoke starts later in the evening. Not sure what time. Great food. Enjoy! Now to post our Kona Cafe review.. :) Thanks everyone for the congrats on our wedding!

Thanks for your reviews. Congrats on your marriage! Have a great trip!

We hit Kimonos for a late (11:30pm) dinner and karaoke this past weekend. This place was INCREDIBLE. Loved the sushi and tempura. Had a great cherry vodka/white chocolate liquor drink that was awesome. The Karaoke was fun and hopping. It was late, so there weren't any kids there, but I don't think it would be a problem, especially if you go during a more standard dinner hour.

Highly recommended.

Congrats! Sorry to hear you weren't too impressed with Il Mulino. I was afraid of hearing something like that.:sad2: We also loved Palio and were very disappointed when it closed! I saw Il Mulino's menu and wasn't thrilled about the inflated prices but if it was good well I guess we could justify that, but if it's not too good, not worth it. Quite a bummer to hear.

Also sorry to hear about your BRG experience. We were pleasantly surprised with this place during our last tirp. After reading mostly neg reviews on the boards for the past several years we never tried it until we didn't have much choice a few months back. We were looking for a late lunch and nothing in the Swan was opened, so we figured we'd give BRG a try and it was quite good, but that we did have salads and grilled cheese.

If you're still at WDW, have you tried JIKO?? EXCELLENT!!:thumbsup2 Great place to go for a romantic dinner too.
