Well, we ate more in the park and resorts this year than the last time because we're getting older and want to experience everything!

The willing victims were myself, DB, DM and DF. We're all adults (well, chronologically we are... :teeth: )

First night, my original plan had been to eat outside of the park and then head to Epcot for Illuminations. However, our plane got delayed 3 hours and then we spent an awful long time picking our rental car (this car is too small, this car is too big, this car is juuuuuuust right.) By the time we got to our timeshare resort it was already 5:30 pm. I reasoned with everybody that the best use of time would be to eat inside Epcot ;) . My dastardly plan worked. We drove to Epcot with plans to find something in the Seasons food court in the Land. However, I remembered that Futureworld closed at 7 so by the time we got to Epcot (6:45 pm), it wasn't an option anymore. hahah.... so off we went to Nine Dragons to see if they could squeeze us in. :goodvibes Got to the desk and asked them how long it would be for a party of 4. They said...right away! So a few seconds later we were sitting at a nice table being chatted to by a very friendly waiter.

We ordered 2 samplers for 2. The sampler comes with a choice of soup (we all chose Hot and Sour soup), 2 spring roll, 2 shao mai, and a choice of 2 out of 4 dishes. Since there were four of us, we chose all 4 dishes. LOL Sesame Chicken, Sweet and Sour pork, Stir Fry Vegetables and Shrimp, and a Beef and vegetable dish. All came with steamed rice. It also comes with red bean ice cream and a fortune cookie.

The hot and sour soup was very good except not spicy enough. It could also do with a bit more temperature. We like our soup very hot and it was probably on the high side of warm. The shao mai was nothing like any shao mai we'd had...we didn't like it at all. (To set the scene...we're Chinese so we're particularly picky about this sort of stuff). The spring rolls were delicious (and my mom declared it so as well so it must be true!). All the main dishes were quite good and surprisingly plentiful. It was a nice surprise that the food was actually quite good. My parents gave it their seal of approval. I gave the red bean ice cream a two thumbs up but then I love ice cream so that wasn't too hard. :rotfl2:

The next day we were at Disney-MGM. We had 4:10 ADRs at Hollywood and Vine (Fantasmic Dinner Package) so we didn't want to eat too much for lunch. We went off to get a couple of smoked turkey legs to share but they had run out! Yikes...it was only 11:30 am!! They said they'd have another batch in half an hour. Hmmmm...we ended up sharing two foot long hot dogs and my mom went to get some McFries. I also went and got a Mickey ears premium ice cream bar. Yummmmmmm.... I love those. It was to be my only one the whole trip!!!

The lineup for checking in at the Hollywood and Vine was long (it was right after the parade) but once we checked in, we waited only a few moments before they called us in. There was quite a nice selection of food. My mom fell in love with their "pot roast" turkey. Alas, I can't remember too much more about the buffet except that we came out of the restaurant feeling rather bloated. We ate a bit too much I think. Their dessert selection needs more chocolate though...that I can remember ;) We had a nice server who made up for his lack of conversation (my mom tried to talk to him about Walt Disney and received blank stares from him) with his kindness. He suggested that my parents take some hot coffee and hot tea with them to Fantasmic...a suggestion they appreciatively took.

Next day we were at Animal Kingdom. We had 6:30 pm ADRs at Boma that evening so again we were trying not to eat that much during the day. Ha! We ended up at Flame Tree Barbecue (where we had eaten at AK last time!). My mom got the 1/2 slab of ribs, my brother and dad got the 1/2 chicken and I got the pork sandwich. All came with beans and corn on the cob. My mom gave me one of her ribs to try and it was delicious and judging from the way my brother and dad attacked the chicken, I'd say it was good too. My pork sandwich was ok but after I saw the ribs, I wish I had gotten the ribs. The cost of the ribs and the chicken were quite reasonable too.

And then there's Boma. I had decided on Boma instead of Ohana because we had done Ohana last time. I wanted to try something new. Oy...that was a mistake for us. My parents hated Boma. My brother and I were ok with it but it wasn't like the night before where they had to roll us out of the buffet. We were not as endulging on this buffet because, for us, it was difficult to find items that were particularly tasty to us. Everything seemed to be couscous, salad or couscous salad. I tried some spicy Durban chicken that was dry and wasn't particulary spicy. I did enjoy the falafel (something I thought I would hate) and I really liked their sun-dried tomato hummus and flat bread. I enjoyed dessert a lot more than the other dishes. I should have just had dessert!! :rotfl2: They had a wonderful bread pudding and vanilla sauce and I also had two zebra domes. My mom, hearing from me that the zebra domes were to die for, got one to try and she actually liked it. And she never likes tiramisu!! Anyway, this experiment in pseudo-African food was a flop. My mom kept saying we should have gone back to Ohana.

Tuesday we were at Epcot and had Candlelight Processional Dinner Package ADRs at 5:20 pm. We packed a few sandwiches with us and went to Seasons to supplement our sandwiches. We ended up getting bowls of chicken, noodle, vegetable soup from the Asian section. It was tasty enough and filling enough with our sandwiches. Funny thing happened when my dad saw the menu for the Biergarten and wondered why we weren't eating dinner there. ha! He thought that it reminded him of home (home is a city in Canada known for Octoberfest...)

When we were seated at Le Cellier, they gave us a table where the bulb overhead was blown. We were in the corner sitting in the dark. They said they'd bring over a lamp for us. I thought...that would be ok...a lamp should illuminate the area so we sat down and waited. The server came back with a battery operated camp light with dying batteries. Oh well. My brother ordered the vine tomato stack while my parents and I ordered the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was amazing. I loved it.

My brother and parents can't really eat butter or cheese so the menu was a bit...challenging. The server said they could substitute the cream cheese mashed potatos with roast potatos from other dishes and so they did. My mom and brother both ordered the 7 oz filet mignon with the potatos that usually come with the 14 oz New York strip steak. My dad took the 14 oz steak and I took the mushroom filet (with all the buttery goodness. hehe). The steaks were sooooooooooo tender. We were in heaven. They were so good. My mom couldn't finisher hers (she wanted to leave room for dessert) so she had them put it in a box for her. (She heated it up at the resort a few days later and she says it was still tender.)

Oh, as we were eating the battery on the lamp died and we were in the dark. Our waitress came back and saw that, took the lamp and put in fresh batteries. The lamp was about 10 times brighter!! It was quite amusing to her and to the other waitresses that we were "camping" out at the restaurant. Good thing we're Canadians and have the same weird sense of humour, eh? ;)

Dessert for my brother and dad was raspberry sorbet. My mom had her eye on the Canadian Club chocolate cake ever since we sat down and that's what she had. I ordered the maple creme brulee. My mom gave me some of her cake too. The maple creme brulee was absolutely brilliant. The first spoonful was soooooo good it was shocking. I mean...wow. The chocolate cake was decadent. Mmmmmmm....they had to roll us to the Candlelight Processional...we were so stuffed.

Next day we were at the Magic Kingdom. I'll detail that a little bit later.

Great reviews! I love your sense of humor. It gave me a giggle to think of you all camping out in the corner of Le Cellier. I'm looking forward to the rest of your "story." Keep it comin'.

Pat

346 days and counting . . . again!

Loved your reviews. The attention to detail made me feel as though I was sharing dinner with you....almost :goodvibes . Thank you.

Love your reviews....can't wait for more! Everybody raves about Boma's and we've thought about it, but we're not real adventurous eaters so I'm afraid we would be disappointed as well.

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

great reviews, waiting for the rest, your actually the first one i've read that did not rave about Boma.

Can't wait to read more!

haha... thanks!! I'm working today (ugh, what a drag!!) I'll post our MK meals tonight when I drag myself home. :)

I have to agree with you on Boma - to me everything tasted like the same sort of spice - on the other hand, we love Jiko!! I think the desserts are the best thing at Boma.....!!!

:sunny:

I have never camped at WDW, so it was great to read a camping report. I would have to say you picked a great place to camp at Le Cellier is one of our favorite places to dine.

OK, so the next day we're at Magic Kingdom with 8:10 am ADRs for Crystal Palace. First off, I should have planned this a bit better and not have done such an early breakfast on the day after a late night at Epcot. Oh well...there's a method to my madness even if I had to drag the parents out of bed. I like early ADRs at MK because it's the only time I can get a photo of the family in front of the castle without the mass of humanity standing in front of it. And yup...we got a CM to snap our photo in front of the castle...and since half of humanity was at Crystal Palace checking in, we had the castle almost to ourselves.

There was a crowd of people in front of the two CMs handling check-in. We were actually late in checking in (ok...you try hauling parents around at the crack at dawn and then finding out you're parked so close to the TTC that the parking tram won't come and pick you up...my mom wailed at that info. :rotfl: ) As we were waiting for our table, I managed to snap off a few shots of us with the castle in the background. There's a great photo op there if you have the time.

We got called and our server was Michael Todd (not to be confused with the guy who married Liz Taylor in the 50's). He told us that Pooh and Tigger came from one direction and Piglet and Eeyore from the other direction. He advised us that if we didn't see a character nearby to make sure we went and got food and if we saw one coming from either direction to stay put. He said that the restaurant was big and it might take up to 1 hour or 1.5 hours for the character to make it back to our table. He then took a quick look around and told us it was safe to get some food. Nice to have the CMs look after us, eh?

The selection for breakfast was way better than other breakfasts we have done. It certainly puts the Breakfastsaurus to shame. The to-die-for food was the puffed french toast which our server told us was so good you didn't have to put syrup on it (but we could if we wanted to). He was RIGHT! It was yummy. My brother and dad were also pleased to see chicken and apple sausages so that they didn't have to eat the more fatty pork sausages (I had both. :rotfl: ) There was a huge line for food. It took a while to get to some of the dishes because of the line. One thing and please don't hurt me. I find the line would move a whole lot faster if children under the age of 5 aren't in the line getting their own food. They're barely tall enough to see the food and then their muscles aren't strong enough to spoon it onto their plates. We were behind a poor mom who had a baby in one arm and trying to dish food onto her own plate while trying to supervise her small toddler's attempts to get her own food. Yikes! Where's dad when ya need him!!

Anyways, the food was pretty good and my mom was very impressed that you could get egg white omlettes or egg white anythings from the omlette chef. She wanted scrambled egg whites and came back with a plate heaped full of egg whites. My brother was puzzled by the breakfast lasagna. My dad just ate everything despite my mom's disapproving stares at his plate.

First character to come by was Piglet. Actually, he was there before we even got our food...as we were sitting down he wandered by so my brother and I got photos taken with him. My parents were too busy trying to seat themselves so they missed this opportunity. Just as Eeyore was about to approach the table before ours, the clock struck 9 am and music started up. Next thing we know, the characters were parading around, with kids in tow, "Hip Hip Hooray!". Quite entertaining. As we continued to chow down, Eeyore finally made it to our table. We took photos in pairs...my mom and my brother and then myself and my dad. Ok, 2 down and 2 more to go. :rotfl2:

Time for seconds since Pooh Bear and Tigger seemed to be on the other side of the restaurant. Picked up a few more puffed french toast and an egg white omlette with cheese, onions and ham. Mmmmmmm. Sat back down and noticed Tigger on our side of the room. Yay! In no time at all, we were having our photo taken with Tigger. Piglet came over for a second time and this time we got our parents photo with him. So all that was left was the silly old bear. So we waited (no more food! ugh...already so full)...and waited. We saw him 2 tables away when his handler whispered into his mouth and off Pooh went behind the scenes. (Rest period? Washroom break?) About 10 minutes later, Pooh resumed his tour and my brother and I got photos taken with him. Gotta admit, I was getty antsy since the park was now open and had been for <gasp> 30 minutes already!!! :earseek:

So we left the restaurant and got to see Cinderellabration as soon as we reached the castle. Nice timing!!

My parents asked us where we were eating that night and I had to break the news to them that I had no more ADRs planned. We were winging it from then on. I think they were a little relieved. :rotfl2: So much food in such little time was overwhelming.

At about 2 pm, instead of having lunch, we stopped and had a snack. My parents pulled out some biscuits they had brought along. I went for a Dole Whip float and my brother got some pineapple juice. Gosh, it was good but kinda filling...and COLD. It wasn't the warmest of days and the Dole Whip made it worse....but...it's ice cream so...what's not to like? But say...why is it that when you spoon into it, the middle is HOLLOW!!!! Argh, give me more ice cream!!!

That night, we just got Chinese takeout from a local restaurant and ate it in our resort. (No Mickey food for us...how sad...but cheap!) My dad, brother and I went to Downtown Disney after dinner. I went to Goofy's Candy Shop for a caramel apple. Mmmmmmm....more caramel dip and some toasted pecans for me! It was an enormous apple and I decided I would take it back to the resort to eat as a late night snack. (This euphoric moment was dampened by the fact that I managed to lose a Christmas pin that I had just purchased...I somehow lost it while drooling in front of the candy makers.)

Well, let me just say this about the caramel apples. They're just too darn big!! Everytime I bit into it, the pecans went flying around the room. I ended up chasing those little buggers everywhere. It was a bit too much and I couldn't finish it. Oh well...it was still good. (And the last time I had a caramel apple at Downtown Disney, it was windy and I had long hair....not a good mix for a caramel anything...so this was still better.)

The next day was shopping day but we managed to sneak in Disney something by going to Downtown Disney and using the Ghirradelli coupon to get two sundaes for the price of one. We ordered two bannana split sundaes and my brother ordered a iced mocha drink. Boy, it was crowded. We had to hover near somebody's table to get it when they left. (I hate doing that...I felt like a vulture at Animal Kingdom). The sundaes came and holy moly...they were huge. We still managed to demolish them. :teeth: But again...cold outside!! So we were pretty cold when we left the soda shop. We didn't eat dinner until 9:30 and then it was only to the Red Lobster near our resort.

Next day it was back to Magic Kingdom to watch the Christmas parade and fireworks. Our first Disneyfied meal was eaten at the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. But first...my mom and brother wandered off and returned with two smoked turkey legs from the Lunching Pad. Yikes!! 2 gigantic turkey legs, 2 bowls of Chicken broth noodles, 1 bowl of teriyaki chicken and 1 bowl of chicken tenders...for 4 people???? Needless to say...we finished it off but we were bursting at the seams. The chicken noodles were delicious and came with a lime. It reminded me of Vietnamese style noodles as opposed to a generic type of noodle soup. Quite tasty but you really need to eat that when it's hot. The soup doesn't taste as good if it gets cold. I got to taste my mom's chicken tenders. It's ok...but it's really just breaded and fried chicken with sweet sauce on it. It was ok like I said but the noodles were much better. My mom chose it because she wanted rice and not noodles. I never got to taste my dad's teriyaki chicken. (Does the word "Hoover" ring a bell?) :rotfl2: The turkey legs were difficult to eat. You really need a butcher's cleaver to cut those things. :rotfl: Once we managed to get some pretty good chunks of meat off for my mom and myself, my dad and brother took the legs and proceeded to do their best Henry the Eighth impersonations. Made for some pretty good photo ops. Considering we were going on Buzz Lightyear afterwards, we probably shouldn't have eaten so much. hehe..all that spinning could have been dangerous.

As we waited for the parade that afternoon, I toyed with the idea of some hot chocolate or a Mickey ears ice cream bar (the extremes...hot or cold). But when the crowd filled in behind our curb position, I decided to sacrifice my ever expanding stomach and remained seated instead. Hmmmm...probably should have gotten the ears.

We took our parents back to the resort since they wanted to pack for the trip home. My brother and I returned in the evening. We had intended on going to Columbia Harbour House for some clam chowder. We decided to ride a few rides before hand since we were able to walk onto some without waiting. Alas, after we exited Haunted Mansion and entered the restaurant for some steaming bread bowls...they told us they were now closed. What??? It was only 8:15!!

As we walked around looking for food, we came upon the Tea Cups and there was no line so we had to ride it, right? ::yes:: After that, the only place we could find open nearby was the Starlight Cafe (the one with the Alf-like animatronic lounge singer). I ended up with a rather uninspiring cheese burger and fries and my brother had a veggie burger (he called it a doublemeat palace burger...and if you watch Buffy, you'll know what I mean.) We scarfed it down and ran for our positions to watch the fireworks.

We left WDW that evening with a last stop at the confectionary store at the end of Main Street. We didn't buy anything but we had a last long look at the goodies and managed to leave without gaining any more weight.

 Bye bye yummy food. Till our next trip to the World (well, in our case...the Land as in Anaheim next summer. :teeth: )

Once again I enjoyed your reviews. I love the detail, and your sense of humor is perfect. Thanks once again for taking the time.
