Heading back to the world with another family. All together there will be 9 of us, but on two reservations so two dining plans.

If I book our ressies as a table of 9, can we 'split' at the table so they realize we are on two seperate dining plans so we don't have to have the tip added automatically, allowing both families to tip what they want?

I know we have a different opinion on tipping than the other family and don't want to get left paying the majority of the automatic amount. We are worried if we book two ressies we won't be seated together or at least at the same time.

Thanks for any help....

I'm pretty sure that if you are seated together, it will be an automatic 18% because it's viewed as a party of 9 regardless of how the payments will be devided. You can ask for seperate bills but the 18% is added to both bills and you can choose to add more if you want.

That 18% tip can be a killer at a big meal. LOL Luckily we got really good service everywhere we went. ;)

if 9 individuals, all on the DDP met up and enjoyed a meal together, they would still be a party of 9. and the 18% tip will be added. doesn't amtter how many seperate checks are at the table.

Op, you can relax, however about having to pay part of their portion on the tip. you can easily get seperate checks (you should anyway if you are on e the dining plan). 18% will be added automatically, to each check.

so, if you spend , say $100, your automatic tip will be $18. and if they spend $50, their automatic tip will be $9. it will not be lumped together; you are responsible for yours, and they are responsible for theirs.

even if you booked 2 sep. ressies, if you got lucky enough to sit together, you would STILL be a party of 9.

I agree with the PP who said that they will split the bill, but as long as you are 6 or more at the table, the 18% is being added to each bill.

The wording from Disney is that the 18% is automatically added to "parties of 6 or more" ... the party is the number of people sitting at the table and not the number of people who are on the bill(s).

(We were a party of 6 including an infant ... the 18% gratuity was automatically added even if we don't order anything for the infant. It's just the way it is.)

Parties of 6 include everyone at the table, including children under 3 and infants. If you are dining with another group and paying separate, you are still subject to the 18% gratuity added to the bill. Each group at the table can get their own bill with their portion of the gratuity split out.

this is from the "tipping thread" sticky. which this thread will most likely be moved to.

You are right ... thanks for catching that! :goodvibes I was thinking back to our trip before my twin nephews were born ... back then we were 5 adults and 1 infant and the gratuity was automatically added ... will go and fix my original post so as not to confuse anyone!
