Dining Reservation Suggestions!

Taking my girlfriend to WDW for her first time and I'm coming up on the 180 day window where I can make dining reservations. Opening up the forum for any and all suggestions for good places to eat. Neither of us are very picky when it comes to any foods. We're not looking the break the bank on our food budget, but most moderately priced restaurants should be fine.

Are you on the dining plan?

I would suggest dinner at Be Our Guest. I find it very romantic, especially in the ballroom.

Most restaraunts I've eaten at at WDW are very kid-oriented. Sci-Fi at HS is really cool (one of our faves!), Tusker House is really good.

I've heard many good things about Boma and Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge, California Grill at the Contemporary, and Flying Fish at the Boardwalk. Those last 2 are 2-credit meal though on the dining plan, so a little more on the pricier side. The French table-service restaurant also sounds romantic.

I would go look through menus and see what you might like. There are a lot of great restaraunts at WDW!

Thank you. Not on the dining plan. That's why we're looking at mostly moderately priced places. I've always loved Le Cellier, but I'm not sold because I feel like it's gotten pricier. I've never tried Flying Fish, I'll have to look into it. Be Our Guest is on our list so I'm glad to hear the good review. Sci Fi is great too.

To further this, I'm at a debate when eating at DHS. I can't decide between Mama Melrose (primarily for the priority seating for Fantasmic) and 50's Prime Time. 50's has a fun environment, but doesn't come with the reserved seating for that. Do you think it is necessary or with a party of 2 do you think we'll be able to slip into Fantasmic either way?

Two places we will be returning to next year is "Tusker House" and "50's Prime Time Cafe". Another place we are considering returning to is "Coral Reef". It gets a lot of mixed reviews but we had a really good meal there last time and the atmosphere is really nice (Large Aquarium). You can watch the sharks and fish swim while you are eating.

We enjoyed both Mama Melrose and 50s on our last trip. We did both for lunch as we were not going to the Fantasmic show. For what it is worth we have had better service and food doing TS lunch in the parks rather than dinner.Some restaurants (Mama Melrose, LeCellier , 50s and some others) have the same menu.
We have had great dinners at Yacthman's in YC. Price wise it is the same category as LeCellier but the table aren't as crammed together.
Another standard for us is Chefs de France for lunch. They have a prix fixe menu as an option along with the regular. If you haven't done so already, checkout the menus here and on www.allears.net. That will give you a good idea regarding price and food options.

Turf Club at Saratoga Springs has a nice menu with prime rib, lamb chops, and a great pork chop.

We also like Olivia's at Old Key West.

If you go to Disney Springs, Wolfgang Puck Express in the Marketplace area has great and reasonably priced entrees.

And on your Epcot/DHS days, Captain's Grille at Yacht Club is very good.

You don't really need reserved seating for Fantasmic. You can get a FP for it as your 4th or 5th FP of the day after you use your initial 3 FPs.

WPE is a favorite of ours. We have done dinner there several times a trip plus the occasional lunch and even 1 breakfast. The last 2 trip we have gone to Capt. Grille for lunch. Really enjoyed the lobster roll.

A great meal we had on our last trip was at Trail's End Restaurant at the Fort Wilderness Campground. We finally tried this restaurant for dinner after many years. Don't know why we never did before. The easiest way to get there is to take a short boat ride from MK. They serve fried chicken, ribs, baked potatoes with toppings, pizza, corn, veggies, salad, peel & eat shrimp, delicious cornbread, soup, and more. There's also a dessert table with cookies, cakes, banana pudding. All simple, yet tasty food. I believe the price for the dinner buffet when we went in Aug. was $25 per person, which is unheard of for a Disney buffet. They also serve a breakfast buffet, but we haven't tried that one.

I would recommend the Turf Club at Saratoga Springs Resort. Ask for a table in back by the windows, overlooking the river. We are going on Jan 18th and it was our first choice for our adult only trip, first vacation without kids in 12 years. I think you will be impressed with the service and the restaurant. It is a hidden gem.

I see that even though you're looking to make ADRs, you didn't specify TS restaurants, so...

The best quick service in AK IMO is Flame Tree. Don't miss the BBQ ribs! Also, stop for a quick snack at Sleepy Hollow (waffles are the best).

My mom and I are going to try TS for the first time this summer, and my window is coming up in a couple weeks, so I'm also following along here... Lots of great information!

Moderately priced at WDW means a burger at QS for $9-10. I used to get sticker shock there but got to the point of realizing, if I want to eat and experience WDW for all it offers, then I needed to budget and allow for it. With that being said, I am going to list out a fewof our faves. Bear in mind, many of these are not budget minded meals, but we enjoy them enough to justify. I wont list any signature places just because those I tend to shy away from, though Le Cellier and Artist Point are both very good. In some cases I will mention a particular meal time or a specific meal that draws us too a place.

MK and MK resorts...Liberty Tree Tavern(lunch), The Plaza, Tonys Town Sq., Kona, Ohana(dinner), Grand Fl. Cafe, The Wave(love all meals here, esp. breakfast), Trails End(breakfast)

Epcot and Resorts within walking...San Angel Inn, Nine Dragons(Honey Sesame Chicken), Rose n Crown, Via Napoli(Piccante Pizza), Garden Grill, ESPN, Trattoria al Forno

HS...50s PTC, Mama Melrose(last few times we went, we were not impressed, but recent reviews are giving it praises again)

AK and Resorts...Though this isnt a TS meal, Flame Tree BBQ is a draw for us. Yak n Yeti CS gets an honorable mention. Boma and Maya Grill

DS and other resorts...Raglan Rd.(if given choice in this type meal, would choose Rose n Crown over RR), Paradiso 37(lunch, its a lot less noisy), Olivias

This should help narrow down the choices

In addition to PP I would add...

AK area -- Sanaa (lunch with a savanna show), Yak and Yeti (look into seeing whether a Landry's club membership would add value)
Epcot -- Big River Grille, Rose and Crown(fab if you can get a late seating and see Illuminations), Spice Road Table (good reviews, no personal experience)
MK -- Kona Cafe, the Wave (good reviews, no personal experience)
DH -- the bar at Brown Derby (also a Fantasmic restaurant), walk to Epcot Boardwalk
DS -- Raglan Road, Earl of Sandwich (lunch), Turf Club at SSR (you can then boat to DS for nightlife), Splittesville for bowling and heavy snacks (no personal)

If you want more of a "date night" and you like fish Bluezoo is amazing! The food is some of the absolute best in Disney (great drinks too) but the prices are MUCH lower than Signature restaurants. Our entrees were about $35 each rather than a $50 steak at Yachtsman or Le Cellier and, honestly, the only place I've had a better piece of fish in Disney was at Victoria and Albert's!
