First...prices usually based on 2 adults, 2 kids. Used dining plan, but tried to keep totals out of curiosity. BTW, they DO NOT care if you use adult or kid credits...just tell them HOW MANY you will use per meal. Also, they do not differentiate b/w kids' or adults' meals at counter service. Just order and tell them how many credits you will be using.

Generally, most snacks would cost you about $2-$2.50 each.
Most counter service, with drink, dessert, and tax would cost about $12.50.

1. Pizzafari--2 pepperoni pizzas, 1 Italian sandwich, 1 chicken Caesar, 4 drinks--bought the AK meal plan for 2 adults-about $45.00 total for food and meal plan. Later, used the snacks and drinks with the plan to buy each person a snack--hubby-water, me--Coke, kids--ice cream.

Pizza--okay; sandwich--yummy...they use Caesar salad instead of lettuce on it; chicken Caesar--good and plentiful. Two adults could actually share quite easily here. Didn't get a total, but I think about $45.

2. Sci-Fi--my kids loved this place..our first time here. My hubby and I split the burger and fries (the waiter actually brought the two halves on separate plates for us). Kids got the kids' meals with hot dogs. Don't remember the total, but probably about $45 with tip (we bought the light-up ice cubes for the kids).

3. Crystal Palace--lunch buffet--long lines at check in for P.S.; a wait to get in--note that the wait is outside on a covered porch--can get hot and wet, if raining; good food; used 4 table services. I didn't keep up with the total.

4. Rose and Crown--one of our favorites. In fact, my 9 year old has requested only this one for the next trip!. The potato and leek soup appetizer is really good! The children's dessert here is recommended, too. It's some kind of sundae that the kids can build for themselves at their table. In fact, all of the desserts looked good. My husband ordered the warm apple crumble with ice cream and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bubbly waitresses, too.

5. Chef Mickey--always good, but the check-in for P.S. is always long. Don't even try this place without a P.S. Both nights that we were there, they were taking no one w/o a P.S. Parmesan mashed potatoes...fabulous, as always. Boiled shrimp were plentiful and large. CM has some of the only prime rib that is cooked truly well-done. Desserts--key lime pie, ice cream with 8 different toppings, carrot cake, brownies, rice krispie treats, cookies, choc. mousse pie with engraved Mickey heads on them, tiny fruit tarts, cheesecake with ice-frosted berries on top, fresh fruit, tiny pecan tarts, various tiny tart thingies that I didn't try.
2 adult meals, 2 kid meals with tax and gratuity--$94.72

6. Boma--very interesting foods; great place if your taste buds are tired. I am not even going to try to name or describe the main dishes...but, overall, good, different food. Now, the desserts, (can you see a trend here with me and desserts :bitelip:). The pineapple cheesecake was very good. The cheesecake was vanilla with pineapple tidbits in the top. The bottom was a white chocolate-covered cookie. These were individual, tart-like things. The zebra domes were okay...I don't like coffee or espresso-flavored foods, but I can see why some people love them. I enjoyed the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce. The fresh fruit selection was good, too.
2 adult, 2 kids with 15% gratuity and tax--$87.43

7. Whispering Canyon--We paid for the kids out-of-pocket so that we could eat at an additional table service later. So, we used 2 table services. My hubby got the meatloaf. It was okay, but not worth the price. I got the New York strip, well-done. This steak was excellent. It is hard to do a well-done steak properly, but they got it. In fact, my DH and I shared mine and he said that the steak is what he will get next time. I had the BBQ mixed plate before, and the steak is better. I got WC's Happiest Celebration dessert--a s'mores layered dessert--not good. It had a vanilla-type cookie with globs of marshmallow (toasted) between the layers. Now that I think of it, I don't remember any chocolate. Anyway, get the Chocolate Stampede...it's yummy. BTW, the appetizer of nachos is enough for a meal. My daughter ate that instead of ordering, and we still had food left over.
2 adults with 15% gratuity and tax.--$78.88

8. 1900 Park Fare--4 table-services used. Get the strawberry soup....and get lots of it. It is wonderful. My DD said it tasted like strawberry ice cream. The chef made the sauce for the chicken Alfredo right at the little pod in front of you as you walk up. Unfortunately, the well-done prime rib that I asked for was, ugh, bloody in the center of the slice. Overall, though, the food was good; character interaction was good. The wait was not too long with a PS. Fairy Godmother and Alice alternated in the wait area. Cinderella, Prince Charming, Suzy, and Perla were all there. Orchestra in the lobby was wonderful.
2 adults/2 kids with 15% gratuity and tax--$99.58

9. Boatwright's--This place was our unexpected gem on the trip. Small, yet right next to Bob Jackson, so that you could hear the mayhem next door. You can wait for your table in his lounge area. We got as appetizers: 2 orders of mozzarella sticks (these were huge triangles), a shrimp cocktail (5-6 large shrimp), and an order of crab cakes (3-4 of these). We had my parents with us, but we knew how much food Disney gives, so we asked them not to order, which they didn't. We all left food on our plates, so this is a good place to share, especially with the appetizers being so filling. We ordered the prime rib (16 oz., wow!), the BBQ baby-back ribs (when it came, it was two huge slabs), 1 kid's marinara and sauce, and 1 kid's pepperoni pizza. The waitress urged us to add-on the grilled shrimp on a skewer, so we did (not charged extra). For dessert, we ordered two kid's Mickey sundaes (the ears are Oreos), pecan pie with ice cream, and the Big River Brownie (served in a huge stemmed glass, it is wedges of brownie swimming in a good fudge sauce, vanilla-bean ice cream, whipped cream, and a cherry on top--serves about 3 people, really.)
2 adult/2 kids, 15% gratuity and tax--gulp!--$152.01

10. Princess Storybook at Epcot--the food was better than last year. The biscuits were good--the frozen Pillsbury type. The starter was a maple-frosted Danish (or should I say Norwegian??? ). The bacon is not really crisp (I like crisp bacon), but my DD liked it and asked for more. The fruit was strawberries, pineapple, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe. We asked and received more strawberries. Stick with the biscuits, strawberries, bacon, and Danish and you'll be okay. Oh, yeah, and princesses were there, too. Five of them--Mulan, Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, and Snow White. No Ariel at breakfast. The seating is a bit crowded here and there are only two stalls in the women's bathroom!
2 adults/2 kids w/ tax & 18% gratuity (why 18??? I don't know)--$84.61.
Yikes! for breakfast!

11. Chef Mickey's--again, I know.... I just love those mashed potatoes...and some characters were there, too, I think--Chip, Dale, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald.
4 adults here--$149.34 with 18% gratuity (again, I don't know why). (We had some friends join us--5 kids and 8 adults total.) Our total bill was about $350 or so. The server got over $60 in tips for just our table!

Various meals that I found receipts for:
Liberty Inn in Epcot--1 cheeseburger combo, 1 turkey sandwich combo, 2 drinks, and 2 apple pie a la modes--$26.99

Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot--1 drink, 1 ham and cheese quiche, and 1 chocolate eclair (counts as 1 counter service)--around $12.

Overall, we had some really good meals. Disney does offer some interesting food choices if people are willing to try something new sometimes.

Hope this helps in planning and in figuring whether the dining plan is worth it!

Great reviews. Thanks so much for sharing! :flower:

I didn't know you could get food at the French bakery for a counter service. I love that place - thanks for sharing that!! :teeth:

How was the apple pie ala mode from Liberty Inn?

Did you feel you had good interaction with the Princesses at PSB in Norway? What time did you go there?

We have an 8:30am AR on a day when Epcot opens at 9am.

Thanks again!

Thanks for taking the time to write a great report. :goodvibes You reviewed most of the restaurants that I am considering for ARs in October.
As far the character meals- how was the interaction with the characters? And what was the time of your ARs for the character meals? I am planning on 5:30 for dinner because of DD2. Not sure of what time to schedule for PSB.

TIA!

Awesome!! Where is Boatwrights?

Sorry, I should have said that Boatwright's is at Port Orleans Riverside in its main building between River Roost and the food court.

The apple pie was in a little cup, like the single servings that Blue Bell ice cream comes in--about 3 inches in diameter. It was actually more of an apple crumble b/c it had a streusel topping. It must have been warmed b/c the ice cream kept melting. You could also get, as your dessert, just a cup of ice cream--vanilla, chocolate, or swirled.

PSB interaction......well, they all came around in a timely manner, but, except for Belle and Mulan, the princesses were a bit wooden. This could have been a bad day for them, though. They didn't seem to talk to the children other than the usual, "What's your name?" "Have you had a good time?" "Would you like to take a picture?" I guess, what I mean is that it wasn't really personal or individualized to the children. I'm not really complaining, though. I know the girls get tired and my kids didn't seem to mind. The server wasn't a really warm type, either. She was efficient, though, which is what we expect from our server.

Let me see, AR times.....
CRT--8:10
Crystal Palace--11:30
Chef Mickey's--6:40
1900 Park Fare--7:00
PSB @ Epcot--9:50
Chef Mickey's--5:20

If you get a really early PSB time, it may be difficult to get transportation there in time. Also, if you are there around opening, you may have to contend with the Soarin', Test Track, and Mission Space stampede. If you do want to do Soarin', then the second seating at 9:50 may work b/c you can run and do Soarin' first, then go eat.

A two year old should love the Pooh characters at the Crystal Palace. The buffet there will make you happy, too.

If you plan an early dinner, do not eat much at lunch or eat bfst and skip lunch. We found that we were still too full to fully enjoy our earlier dinners b/c of those darn desserts that came with our counter services.

In terms of interaction, I think that some of the best interactions are still when you come upon characters in the parks. Epcot seems to be best for a relaxed, unrushed time with characters. At char. meals, the characters know and see all of the others waiting for them.

Anyway, I would rank them, simply in terms of interaction as follows:

Cinderella Bfst in the castle (CRT)
Crystal Palace
PSB at Epcot
Chef Mickey's/ 1900 Park Fare (Park Fare seems much more relaxed than CM)

Great reviews! Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful review - thank you!

We are planning our AR's for a September trip and it is so very nice to hear how worth it the dining plan is - we gave up an AP discount for the free dining plan and I am just having a ball figuring everything out.

Again - thanks! The details were just perfect! (Except I have us down for breakfast at CM's and now you have me rethinking it for dinner...hmmmmmmmm...)

May seem like a silly question, but, as far as tips go, are those included in the dining plan, or do you pay those separate? Thank you.

Thank you for the reviews...to be honest I am glad to hear the waitstaff was encouraging with the Dining plan. I have been a little concerned that by the time we get to WDW and use the plan that they might be sick of people on it. Did they seem fine with the paying out of pocket for some items? Did you tip seperately on those items? When we go I don't plan to utilize the plan much differently then it is written but I know we will want to share some meals because of the amount of food...did they seem fine with this?
Again thank you for all your wonderful reviews.

Tigerlilly,

Tip IS included. They will bring you the bill in a little folder. You hand them your room card and tell them how many table credits you will be using (you can tell them this when the server comes for drink orders, too).

If you are using fewer than the number of people eating, they will bring you a bill with those items rung up separately (most waiters have been very kind and have even suggested ringing up the "cash" meals as children's meals so that they would cost less cash--you can do this if you have a mixture of children and adults on your plan). Please remember to tip for the cash part of your bill--tip is NOT automatically added there.

If you are using all of your table credits (example: 4 people eating and you are using 4 credits), the server will just bring you a receipt to print your name and then sign your name. The receipt that you sign shows the costs of everything, the tax amount, and the amount that the server is getting as a tip (gratuity). They will keep this receipt, and you will get a receipt listing what you ordered with zeros in the cost column. At the bottom will be the total number of table credits that you have left.

I appreciated how you explained what you shared with your plan. We too, are planning on sharing some meals, so this always interests me.

Thank you for the quick response :) I am glad to hear that the waitstaff you encountered was helpful.

LSUDis- Thank you for explaining the whole tipping thing, as well as the point that the credits left are printed on the reciept. This will help us keep track of what is left!
