Hello all....
We have an ADR at Whispering Cayon because i've heard about how much fun it is there. Only problem is that the food doesn't sound too appetizing. Sounds like a big bowl of grease to me. Are there any other places that would be just as fun that are NOT in the parks?? I don't want to use my park pass just for dinner. We're looking for a place on our arrival date. We are a party of 9 with small children. What would you recommend???
Thanks in advance :)
Karen

We didn't care for the food at WCC. However, 50s Prime Time was a lot of fun with good food. That needs park pass....

Fun with small children--Chef Mickey's (at Contemp), 1900 Park Fare (at GF). Both are character buffets with great atmosphere.

We will also be a party of nine with children ages 2, 5 & 9. The "fun" places we have ADRs for are Whispering Canyon AND 'Ohana. There are plenty of items to choose from on the WCC menu that are not "big bowls of grease" I take it you are referring to the skillet dinner.:rotfl2: (someone posted the menu above)
At 'Ohana, the meal is served family style (you can read the menu on allears.net) and there are fun things for the kids-hula hoop contests, coconut races, and so on. Let us know what you decide!

Had a great time at 'Ohana and actually went back for a second time b4 we left the resort. All in my party are in favor of going again this time. Also went to WCC and enjoyed it but we thought the food was just ok...it was fun for the kids, esp. little ones.

I'm trying to get a post on the restaurant thread, but it keeps getting erased. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I need help deciding between Yachtsman and Citricos for one signature meal. Have Yachtsman ADRs for Wed. and Le Cellier for the following Sat. of our trip. Family insists on Le Cellier. DH and SIL are big steak eaters and like a sizable portion of food; DH does NOT enjoy fine dining. DDs and I DO enjoy the finer dining once in a while. Who should we try to please? Would the guys be ok with Citricos or would it be better if we just stayed with Yachtsman? (Sorry to infringe upon your thread!!!)
PLEASE HELP!!!!! Thanks.

Hello again...
We are 2 families with children ages...3,3,5,6, and 11. I will definitely try something other than the "skillet".
We did go to 50's PT in December but our waitress wasn't that funny. I was sort of dissapointed but the food was real good. I hope we do get a rowdy waiter/waitress at WCC. How do we make sure of that???
Thanks

We didn't care for WCC either. For fun and good food, how about 1900 Park Fare, We had a dinner reservation with 9 in our party with 3 kids (15,10, 3) and we did well at 'Ohana, Chef Mickey (although don't like the food as much) or how about 1900 ParkFare?

Chef Mickeys is a great place if you have young children!

Take a look at my postsunder the dining reviews subsection of this board. That might help! :sunny:
Good Luck!

Try Boma. I love that place. House of Blues would be good too.

I didn't care for the skillet the first time that I went to WC. So, the next time, I got the New York strip steak--it was very good

.

The resorts have much better restaurants than the parks anyway so you don't need to worry about that at all. At WCC I really like the pork chops. 1900 has a great buffet, boma is always a good choice, you can't go wrong with Ohanas, Yachtsman is yummy, etc, etc.

In the past, we've always started our trip with Chef Mickey....like you, we didn't want to waste a park day. It's a ton of fun, especially with a large group that includes kids.

we really enjoyed WCC. DH did have the skillet, I am not a BBQ person, but he really liked it.

The nachos are so-so, I wasn't super hungry but ordered them for DH (we were on the dining plan). I ate his salad that came iwth the skillet, it was very good. The apple vinaigrette is pretty sweet, next time I would ask for it on the side as they used way too much.

I had the NY Strip, it was very well prepared, perfectly medium rare. came with mashed potatoes (why do restaurants leave the skins on - yuck! I like my mashed potatoes extra creamy) and a few pieces of broccoli.

DD7 had chicken strips and fries - no surprises there

DD5 had her favorite - roasted chicken legs, with buttered pasta instead of mashed potatoes.

DH enjoyed his 1/2 yard of beer - it's a souvenir mug (plastic) but we didn't take it with us.

overall the food tends to be hearty and fairly heavy, but doesn't have to be greasy. Portions are large, and the desserts are enormous, plan on sharing!
