Dining Price Increase Coming?

I read on another board that restaurants at WDW are really jacking up their prices. It did not appear that this was related to the usual holiday price increases. This person had ADRs early in Jan, but after New Years. They called to check on some restaurant prices for budget planning purposes and noted some big price increases.

Examples given were Hollywood and Vine 30.99 adults / 15.99 kids; and Liberty Tavern 33.99 adults / 16.99 kids. Apparently the individual was told by a CM that these are the new prices as of November!

Hollywood and Vine is currently (I believe) $24.99 / 12.99 for dinner, adults / kids, and only 26.99 / 13.99 for the Fantasmic Dinner Pkg. Liberty Tree is currently $28.99 / 13.99....so if the above increases are true, this represents some fairly hefty price increases.

Anyone know if this is the real scoop? :confused3

I wouldn't assume it's true unless it's been officially announced by Disney (and by that I don't mean the cast members at WDW-DINE)

But with the increase in food prices across the board, and the need for WDW to make up for so many dining plan customers for whom they get a fixed price, I would not be too surprised to see that kind of price increase.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it. Food prices are up everywhere, but usually when restaurants change their prices, it seems like dramatic changes because they don't change their prices often (incurrs menu re-printing costs.)

Those sound like the holiday pricing prices to me - maybe the CM was confused?

I know if we return to WDW next year , we will be eating far less TS meals and eat more CS. We will definetly not do the dining plan.

For kids 3-9 its definetly a deal, but to pay almost $40.00 a day for my DS who will be 10 to eat chicken nuggets is ridiculous.

We just returned yesterday from WDW and he ate chicken nuggets and hot dogs all week. He's a kid still he doesn't have adult tastes. He tried some of DH and my entrees but always resorted back to his "regular".

Well we will go back to our old ways prior to the DDP. Al CS meals except maybe 1-2 TS for the week.

I never complained about dining at WDW before, but its definetly gone downhill since our last visit. More expensive, less quality and poorer service.

OP here again... Can anyone else confirm these price increases or is anyone else being told that these increased prices are coming in November (and not just for holidays)??

I understand that prices go up and food costs are increasing, Disney is a business and has to make money, etc, etc, but don't these price increases seem a little drastic?:confused3

I mean this would be a $5-6 meal increase for H &V dinner buffet and Liberty Tree. That's going to kill some people's budgets. If they had budgeted at the "old" price for a family of 4, and find out that there's been a $5 per person price increase, they are looking at spending $20 more for that dinner than they had planned on, and that's just for one meal.

I dunno... I could see a more modest price increase with no problem, but a 20% price increase seems a little extreme to me.

Anyone...anyone...?

I believe the price increases are for real. I cannot confirm this with firsthand knowledge, but I have read a handful of reports over the past few weeks that a la carte pricing at some restaurants has risen $2-3 per item when compared to the most recent menus posted on allearsnet. This is all the more reason to use the DDP or DxDP. Dining plan prices have been fixed for 2009, and if you were saving money now you could be saving an additional 5-10% if they increase all pricing across the board.

Prices for all things are going up around the country. Disney cannot remain immune to the economic pressure. That's no reason for them not to increase the "value" alongside their prices but that's another thread for another day.
