Dining plans price increase by almost 10%

Bad news: there's almost 10% increase of dining plans price:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-dining-plan.htm#prices

The regular DDP for adult was 41,99$ per day; it's now 45,99$.
The DxDDP for adult was 71,99$ per day; it's now 78,99$.

This is a HUGE increase.

Demand for the DDP remains high in spite of the general decline in food quality and the increase in cost to the customer (through removing items from the DDP and raising the cost of the DDP itself). So until the public reaches its "squeal point" and quits buying the DDP, WDW will continue to increase cost.

I think for the AMOUNT of food that you can consume on the DP, the "squeal point":) is still a few $$ away...

I'm confused - you linked to the current prices for 2010, already in effect for the last 8 months. I don't think the 2011 prices are released yet (but I haven't been looking for them).

Perhaps, but if my numbers are correct, it's still about $700 cheaper for my family (comparing apples to apples) if we're there for 10 days.

It depends on the family, I do several character meals and in the past it was a better deal for us, this year when planning out my dining(at least 2 TS a day) the fact that I like to eat at Fultons, TRex and RFC, it is cheaper for me to OOP,Then DLXDDP and OOP for the non dining plan places.

If a family wants 3 TS meals a day then DLXDDP is still a better deal, but I am tired on eating all the time. I would rather hang at the pool instead of the extra time for a 3 TS meal a day. I am also sick of the 7-12 pound weight gain each trip on DLXDDP. I leave a size 6 and come back a size 8.

Just me though, I have done DLXDDP many times and I am just over it now. The food is going down hill and not worth it.

The link says it's the 2010 prices, but it's linking to the 2011 pricing.

We've let the webmasters know about it so it can be corrected.

The "squeal point" is a few $$$$ away for us. The DxDP saved us over $1300 last trip and even with the price increase for 2011, I project that it saves us well over $1000 again in May.

I am well past the quality of food you can consume and the squeal point.
I have not done the DDP in years.

I am still OK with the QSDP, but only because you get two snacks with it for the F&W festival.

I think the operative word is can. We've pretty much stopped using the dining plan because it forced us to eat very unnaturally. Force is probably a bit strong but I did find that very rarely do all 4 of us order seperate desserts. when we tried the dining plan, we sort of felt obligated to order every thing simply to "get the most" out of it. probably a mindset problem.

Same with meals, there were a few times where I would have ordered maybe a salad and an appertizer for a meal but due to the "get the most" I went with the most expensive, large order simply "because" we had to get the "most" out of our points.

My squeal point was pretty much when the appertizer and tip went away.

2011 prices have been out since mid-August. The increases in the first post are correct for 2011. There is no change in price for 2010.

I squealed last year after one night on QSDP. Never again, no more dining plans. At that point I had not done a dining plan with TS in two years. It wasn't that I didn't save money on what I ordered but that I was not able to eat where and what I wanted. I see plenty of people on the board continuing to choose DDP though.

Yes, I am completely bummed about the price increase. The DDP make sense if I travel with my bottomless pit teenage boy, but not if I just travel with my 10 yo picky eater daughter. It would run us almost $90 per day and I doubt in her case I can justify the expense. We had planned to return to Disney using DVC points, so I guess it will have to be OOP for us. Darn, I really liked the dinning plan, but not in 2011!

I really think this is something that needs to be addressed in the DDP.

I think they should raise the age of the kids DDP to 15 and maybe charge a few more dollars so they can provide slightly better options.

The jump from 9-10 is big especially if the kids still orders from the kids menu.

If your kid eats more you always have the option of getting them the adult plan.
If your kid is over 10 and eats less it is just too bad.

Seriously??? My dd is 14 and there's NO WAY she'd be happy with the limited options on the kids menus. Even at 12 or 13, the options would've been too limited for her. It's fine for my 6 year old, but a 12 year old can only eat so much mac and cheese, pb and j, and corndogs.

I am presently researching every family style restaurant and buffet so my poor 8 year old DS can actually eat at Disney... choices and portions of the kids meals are a joke! They might have fed him when he was a toddler. He is not a very big eater either...

My DD is 12 and has the mindset of an "adult" eater, she would die if I got her a kids menu at a restaurant here at home..

Yeah, but you always have the option to buy her the adult plan.

There are people who buy the adult plan for 7 year olds.
You just pay the extra and buy them an adult ticket and the adult DDP.
People do this all the time.

There seem to be just as many people with a kid that is 10+ that just wants mac and cheese yet they have no option but to pay the price of the adult DDP.

It all depends on the kid, they are not all the same and it is a big jump from 9 to 10 in the cost of the plan, especially if they will eat the same stuff they ate as a 9 year old.

One trip we didn't get any dining plan. We saved every single reciept for every food, snack and drink we purchased. Found out we spent less than the dining plan by about $100. ANd we didn't skimp on anything

You have pinpointed my issues exactly with the DDP. We went ahead with it for our family extravaganza in July because I didn't want to worry about cost and we were traveling with some big eaters, but never when it's just me and DH.
