Heading to WDW in October and our dad has decided to come along his last trip was what 72 when the park opened. he has booked at AK and added the dining plan (unsure of his tickets) what I am wondering is this and please let me know if I am wrong. You get: 1 sit down meal, 1 counter service meal, and 1 snack per day per guest???? I was reading someones post here and it seems to be confusing and you do sometimes end up paying for other things you may want like she posted paying for something with breakfast like a banana or a danish???? This whole thing sounds a little confusing especially for my 64 year old dad who hasn't been to WDW in a LOOONG time...... :goodvibes. I am wondering if I should suggest to him that he cancel the plan and just pay as you go for food. Dh and I have thought it through we usually do 2 meals a day and think that around $50.00 per meal would work even if we pick a buffet or two. Are we so far off in thinking this?

How much does the meal plan cost Dad will check in on Sat Oct 15 and check out on Sat 22 I do believe he got tickets to cover the 16-21 his arrival is 8 in the evening and flight out is like 8 am.

Just lookin for opinions here any would be appreciated so I can help him out with this........thanks

At the top of this page, there is a FAQ regarding the dining plan. The direct link is: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=820709

That first post pretty much has answers to all of your questions and the entire thread probably answers questions you don't even know you have.

The confusing part (usually) is when people spend more days at WDW then they have the dining plan for and they go into trying to get the most "free" dining as they can by splitting meals, using kids meals for adults, etc. Your Dad does not have to do this. As long as he avoids the "signature restaurants" which use 2 dining credits per meal, instead of the 1 credit per meal, he will not run out of credits.

Actually you say he will be staying 7 nights, but will only actually be there 6. That means he will actually have an extra days food! To maybe treat you with, or go to a signature restaurant!

Each receipt he gets tracks the number of meals he has left, so it is not that hard to plan.

I would not tell him to "get rid of the plan" because he may have even gotten it for free if he booked during the recent promotional period!!

I would budget about $60 per meal (for 2) for a buffet and about $85 for a regular table service restaurant (those 1 credit on the dining plan) and about $140 for a signature table service restaurant (those 2 credits on the dining plan).

In short, the dining plan saves you oodles of money!!

Even more if you do the stretching/sharing/confusing things people have written about.
