My sister will be staying with us at OKW for two out of our four nights. Can she purchase the dining plan for the two days that she will be there--or is there a minimum stay required for the DP?

Thanks,
Blakely

There is no minimum stay when staying at a DVC resort on points, however, everyone in the room must purchase it for the entire length of the reservation.

So, your sister could get it, but she would have to be on your reservation and you'd have to pay for her 4 nights when you check-in.

I did learn from my last trip that everyone in the room who is checked in must be on the dining plan.

As for the shorter dates, I don't know but I think it has to be the same for everyone.

Just reiterating -

For a DVC points reservation, if you want the DP, it must be purchased for everyone on the reservation for every night of the stay.

MS must add it to your reservation prior to check in.

You pay for it at check in.

There is no required minimum number of nights to add the DP to a DVC points reservation and there is no requirment to also buy tickets for a DVC points reservation.

The DP may not be added to a non-DVC WDW resort points reservation at this time.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know she'd have to buy the plan for the nights she won't be there--that seems a little odd. So if my sister left after two nights--we'd have her remaining TS & CS? It would seem a waste not to use them since we've paid for them--right? Has anyone ever done this?

Yes - the credits are pooled for the room, not tied to an individual. You could use them after she leaves.

Thanks everyone for your help. You saved me many minutes of holding time at MS! I think we'll skip the dining plan this trip. It is our first trip as DVC members and I'd like to make some use of the kitchen plus I made a few ADRs for places that give the DVC 10% discount. The DP is great but it's really just too much food--plus with my DSis's extra credits--it would be a waste.

Thanks again everyone!

If you use the dining plan, bring your appetite! WAY TOO MUCH FOOD! Tremendous bang for your buck but come hungry!

I agree it is a lot of food. You could get separate reservations but you'd have to check out then back in again and MIGHT have to change rooms.

The above is exactly how I understand it to be. For my family, it was a great deal and we liked not having to watch prices of every meal and being to order what we really wanted.

Your mileage may vary....

How about for kids? I am traveling in Sept. and my daughters will be 1,2 & 3. Do I have to pay for them? Does anyone know the cost for children?

The only one of the kids that you would have to buy the dining plan for is the 3 year old. Anyone younger than 3 they don't include in the plan. They can share your meal or you can pay out of pocket for them. I believe for kids 3-9 it is $10.99 per night.

Just another note, that the dinning plan can be confusing when there are more than just one family in a unit using them.
