Hello!

We rented points for a stay at Kidani Village over Christmas. We'd like to add the Deluxe Dining Plan to our reservation.

Are we able to add the dining plan to a room that was rented on points? Would we need to call DVC to get that done? As long as we have the reservation, would it be a problem? We're worried that we might have to cancel and rebook in order to add the plan.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The member you rented from will need to add the dining plan for you. Since the member owns the reservation, you can't make any changes to it, or even speak with DVC Member Services- they'll only talk to the member.

The dining plan will need to be paid for when the member adds it, so you'll have to make arrangements to get the additional funds to them.

The reservation does not need to be cancelled to add a dining plan. The member you rented from can add it without needing to contact MS by using the using the on-line system (except if paying by Disney Gift Card). As Lynne noted, it must be paid for when added. The accepted payment methods are Major Credit Cards, Major Gift Cards and Disney Gift Cards. Major Credit/Gift Cards are those backed by Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover Card, Diners Club and JCB.

Probably the safest method would be to purchase a Gift Card in the amount of the Dining Plan and provide that card (or the numbers) to the owner so they can use that gift card for payment.

As already stated , the member you rented from will be the one who has to do it. Just be aware, though, that no all owners are willing to do this or may have a preferred method of payment.

I suggest you just give them a call and they will let you k ow what and how they'd like to work with you.

Several people have posted here (as owners of rented points) that they find it easiest to set up a 3-way call with Member Services and the renter to add dining plans. That way you (the renter) can give your credit card number directly to Disney, with minimal involvement from the member (other than setting up the 3-way call). No gift cards, no extra Paypal fees. See if the person who rented you the points is willing to do that -- it's probably less work for them than collecting money from you and then adding the DxDP to your reservation.

And what keeps the third party from noting the credit card info? You might as well just give the card info to the owner. :confused3

Nothing. But it gives the renter the option to decide whether they prefer to risk an unsavory DVC owner (shifty-eyed lot if ever there was one) or pay an extra ~3% Paypal fee. Given the ease of identifying the culprit, likelihood of getting caught, and fraud protection built into every credit card, it'd take one heck of a foolish DVC owner to do anything inappropriate with that CC information.

I hand my credit card over to sub-minimum wage restaurant employees all the time, with little worry that they will jot down my information and try to buy a new television. Sure, it's not 100% risk-free, but the likelihood of theft is very low and risk of financial loss to the cardholder (me) is also very low.

Couldn't a culprit be at MS, or if the renter is using a cordless or cellphone, someone with the means to pick up the info on the call? Why would it have to be the member who does it? Maybe the shifty renter plans to book everything under the sun with their card then call their bank to tell them it is stolen and leave the member with a big bill at the end.

Trust is a two way street.
