If I am renting DVC points, is there any way to pay the owner for the dining plan via Disney gift cards and Disney reward dollars? I was wondering if I created a Disney Vacation Account, ordered a Disney gift card using my reward dollars, and contributed all my gift cards into my vacation account, would this be a way to pay for the dining plan via the DVC member? I have almost $500 in Disney gift cards and reward dollars and I really wish I could use that to pay to get the dining plan, rather than paying for everything out of pocket.

You cannot pay the owner from a DVA, and the owner cannot pay with your DVA. Some owners may allow you to give them the GC numbers to pay for the dining plan, but that is entirely up to the owner.

Why can't the owner pay from the renters DVA if the renter provides the information?

I think you would both have to be on the line. The t&c for DVA says only the DVA account holder can use it to pay. Since DDP for DVC has to be paid at booking, the DVA holder would need to be on the line, if enforced. Seems like it would be.

So it would depend on your relationship as a renter with the DVC owner.

Nevermind - I thought I had seen that it accepted GC's if booking online but it doesn't.

However, the owner of the DVA account can get the account number and then the member would just provide it to MS if they were calling in. I doubt they are verifying the ownership as to them it just seems like a GC.

I was basing it on the T&C about DVA, which features quite a bit of hoop-jumping relative to payment on travel agent reservations:

Can I use my Disney Vacation Account to make a payment on a reservation booked through my travel agent?
Yes, you can use your Disney Vacation Account to make a payment on a reservation booked directly with Disney through participating travel agents. Ask your travel agency whether your booking will be eligible to be paid for with Disney Vacation Account before making your reservation. However, only you may make a payment with your Disney Vacation Account (please refer to the following question for payment instructions).

How can I make a payment using my Disney Vacation Account on my reservation booked directly with Disney through my travel agent?
Once your travel agent has booked your reservations and you are ready to make a payment, your travel agent can provide you with your reservation number. Please call the telephone number specified below to make your payment using your DVA account.

If there's any confirmation of account holder name with the 16-digit account number, it would be awkward for the DVC owner quickly.

If they really do treat it as a gift card, it'd work. I've paid for DDP for others with hard cards before.

Well, we've completely skipped the part of a 3 way call. I'm fairly certain one can pay for the dining plan with a DVA account and it's just a matter of the logistics of doing it.

And I'm relatively certain DVC won't check the DVA account holders name and nothing terribly awkward in trying.

The DVC owner will need to add it but you can absolutely use gift cards and reward dollars to add it on. The other posters addressed the DVA concerns. Talk to the person who rented you the points.

As an owner, using a GC would be my preferred way of paying. I don't want my renter's cc or DVA account number, and I certainly won't impersonate them. But a Disney GC makes it easy.
