Dining Plan when staying at the Cabins?

I am looking at staying at the cabins since we have a 17month old and need the separate bedroom.
We also were looking at doing the free Dining service plan that Disney is offering for free right now.

Has anyone done the Dining Plan while staying at the Cabins?
How did it work out? or was it bad having to travel to get to any place to eat?

we would probably end up at the part fairly often so might be eating there a lot but also coming back to the cabin for naps in the afternoon.

Any thoughts or experiences would be great.
Thanks,
Daniel

IMHO anytime you have a suite/cabin/villa than has kitchen facilities, then the benefits of the DDP are questionable. But free is free. So even if you buy groceries and have breakfast in your cabin every morning (which seems sensible with a baby), then you still have free lunch, dinner and snacks.

Can't see any problem there. And if you choose to eat breakfast elsewhere, you still have the option of Trails End at FW for TS, or a CS at another close resort (WL, CR) or park.

yeah Free is free was my thought as well and if everything is decently close than we should be fine.

Thanks, I will let everyone know how it goes.

Free Dining isn't really free. You have to pay full price for the room so you need to consider what other discounts you are giving up in order to get "free" dining. And now you have to buy the photopass book at about $100 to get the "free dining".

Will you have a car? The bus service at the campground isn't very convenient. You have to take an internal campground bus to the park busses.

Have you considered the family suites? I've stayed at both family suite and cabin and prefer the family suite.

The family suite has a queen bed in the bedroom vs full size at cabins, the family suite has 2 bathrooms, and the suites have easier bus service and easy access to a food court and pools.

As for any Dining Plan at the Cabins, the only real restaurant is Trail's End down at the Settlement and so you have a little travel to get there. With kitchens in the cabins you would probably be much better off with at least breakfast in your cabin and getting a better discount on the cabin and then paying OOP for the rest of your meals.
