Hi!
How much of a tip is included with the dining plan? My DH and I like to tip around 20% of what our meal cost. In order to do that we need to know what they are getting from the plan so we can top it off properly.

I would feel horrible if our server ran around like a maniac (which I hear is the norm lately since the plan was set in place) and he/she only made a couple bucks from the "tip included" stipulation. TIA!!!! :sunny:

Is that 18% of our bill, or what we paid on the plan? Thanks!

Your bill - which is why some savvy servers are very helpful in getting you to maximize your use of the dining plan! :rotfl2:

In 2005 the tip is 15% unless your party is 8 or more. It's been rumored that some of the non-Disney restaurants base the tip on what they're paid by Disney and not on the price of the meal.

True, right now the tip is 15%(unless you are a party of 8 or more), starting in January it will be 18%.

And yes, the other rumor is true. For example, the Maya Grill at Coronado. Disney pays the restaurant around $20 per meal credit used so the server gets the tip on the $20, not what your meal actually costs. This is why some of the "participant" restaurants either don't take the meal plan, have lots of restrictions or only take it for lunch when the meal is cheaper.

hmmm.... is there a place we could find a list of the non-disney owned places? I want to make sure that our server will get their rightful tip if we're at one, especially since it will be 8 of us at every meal!

We just came back and all the table service meals we had were 15% except at Chef Mickeys where it was 18%.

The other TS meals we had and tip was 15% were:

Tony's in MK
Sci-Fi in MGM
Biergarten in Epcot
Breakfastaurus in AK
Crystal Palace in MK

We en :wave2: joyed the Dining plan!

Looks like we'll be kickin' in some extra cash at most places!! Those poor CMs work soooooo hard and how they keep those smiles on their faces I dont know. I've heard stories about disgruntled CMs but have yet to run into one myself. Only great, magical experiences on my 6 trips (now our yearly must do family trip)!!! They deserve it.
